I just love the brotherhood, can't get enough of it. I remembered one day seeing 2 brothers getting ready to fight, I could not drive off without saying something; they pulled on my heart strings. I yelled out from my car saying, that's your brother. I drove off with tears in my eyes so when I see this bonding it just fills my heart with joy. I believe the brothers handled themselves well without much confrontation. There is always solutions to everything, it all depends on how you handle the situation and yourself.

herregalness How can you get upset at a driver and refuse to pay them for what time of day it is? Was it the drivers job to drive them to the location or make sure the sun was up? All the other stuff they were saying about being a man didnt make sense and had nothing to do with anything. Seems like a petty reaction and i hope more people don't act like him. It can only lead to more conflicts or locals refusing to pick up black american due to bad reputation for not wanting to pay. Maybe i missed something but if i got the story right then no they didn't handle themselves well

Ghana is all about networking [simply put] who you know. It's not bribery, but if you have a better network, you can accomplish so much in less time. But if you go to Ghana as an alpha male or female, you are not going to last in there. Who you know is a sincere, mutual relationship with different people and pays off so much in Ghana society.

I wish the man in pink will understand that. If you have dollars in Ghana enjoy the privilege and stop trying to be alpha. You can pay that driver to come wash your clothes and sweep your house for you, what more is alpha than that? Use your money to network and get things done. It’s just embarrassing that an American is fighting with a local over $48 😅….$48 is chipotle order for 2 ppl in California but that’s the drivers full day wages….i have American uncles who argue and want to get into a fight over $1 in Ghana and it irritates me so much. It has nothing to do with the money but just wanting to alpha just to be 😂….alpha to me is ability to be calm and move shrewdly with prudence.

Welcome to Ghana that is how it is but realize you cats coming with an American minds and now you see everyone even Ghanaians don’t operate like that! Your definitions don’t make any sense to people because that’s how they live. Make more connections with locals someone that you can trust to teach how to move. It’s a cultural clash if you don’t understand the language and how business practices are done here! You say come prepare but nothing will prepare if you are willing to learn and adapt! Eventually change comes but no is listen unto you make changes to live here! You’ll have the hardest time in Ghana if you don’t pay attention.
@blackblaze5271

thehouseofstrength It's a give and take. Some people just want to take but not give. It's another person's country, you don't go there and make the rules. And if you want to do things differently at least do something that makes sense, but it seems like they were upset at a driver because the sun was down when they go to their destination. I don't know how that's the drivers fault unless he took a bad route that made their trip 3, 5 hours longer. Even then that's not really their problem. You gotta leave at a good time to get to a place at a time you want to be there. But he was mad at the driver
@thehouseofstrength

@@blackblaze5271 I believe you, should have could have would have is too late! Better luck if you believe in that think of leaving at a very good time. Chances are greater but the results may be similar! The different culture dynamics are real, again take our sense oppose their sense makes no common sense without respect and resolving small issues with humility. I learn one way to accomplish is through working together and sharing knowledge and understanding with each other! I have three families here and counting in Ghana all through power networking and connections! Believe me you need the people to get everything you need so to some solid degree we need to communicate on higher levels to break through! It’s their country, akwaba!

The issue with the car is unfortunate but that's why u plan based on their time if it take 8 hrs to drive to a location 8 hrs back that's 16 hrs so it's best to set that up before hand. I actually bought a vehicle for my business in east Africa and I'm also along with my business looking for company vehicle for that reason.

I hear and I know it’s nothing out of the ordinary for Africans to treat African-Americans this way. It’s truly sad to hear this constantly up charging they say you’re welcome, but they treat us just like the white man does when it comes to up charging I really feel for African-American brothers, they are the least respected in their own country and abroad. It pains me coming to Ghana seems like having two step part that don’t want you.
@Ahoto_papa_bi
@Ahoto_papa_bi 4 месяца назад
You going too far, Africans are not mistreating African-Americans. Ghanaians will up-charge their fellow Ghanaians when selling, if they find out your clothes are new/nice and smelling good(cologne/spray). There is nothing such as fixed price in Ghana but price is made up upon request, that’s just how the system is. So if you are local and you speaking English to seller, it means you are educated and will be charged higher. Trust me, the market women are not that sophisticated to even know the difference between a rich Ghanaians and a AA. They see both as the same, someone who is rich and needs to be charged more………..Culturally in Ghana, rich ppl actually see that as a flex to be charged more in society, meaning they are perceived as successful. As an American in Ghana , honestly products are so cheap it’s not even worth going back and forth arguing about price. $48 for a drivers *FULL DAY* wages is not something an American should even be arguing about in Ghana, honestly. Just pay them and get a new driver.
@fabriceassima4094

Get out of high horses, no African is mistreating African American. The price gauge is done to everyone the locals feel well off. They change the prices. I am victim even I was born on the continent. As soon as they see they way you dress or talk they switch. It is up to you to negotiate or walk away. It is not personal. In case of these guys they have rendered them a service for 16 hours for 48 $ and still they are arguing about it.

I am happy he said his main intention wasn’t even about the money but wanting to humiliate the driver back. Brother, it’s not worth it…..$48 is someone’s monthly wages in Ghana but to you as an American, it’s just 1-2 hours wages. It’s not worth the fight, he can get his whole family to come fight you, over $48 and not even report to the police. Y’all be careful out there, as much as Ghana is your home, it’s also not your home yet until you have integrated into the community and culture knowing who got your back and who don’t…..you have a bigger vision and that’s why you moved to Ghana, don’t let some local provoke you to police because of $48….you have a privilege being an American in Ghana, with a powerful dollar purchasing power, use your privilege to you advantage and ignore locals who will argue all day on a few dollars.

SMH...so you are saying that because he is a black American that he should accept being scammed or cheated in Ghana.🤣 This is why so many people are forced to leave Ghana and return home to their countries. Some people go to Ghana with their life savings and are being cheated and scammed out of a life in Ghana. The man did rent the car for the whole day (24 hours) for $48... correct??? He was only asking to be treated fairly. Most young black Americans DO NOT make $48 in 1-2 hours and even if they do, they still have their own bills to pay in the US and the cost of living here is expensive af. Cheating black Americans seems to be the normal in Ghana...so I've seen and heard. What makes that right? Then, for you to suggest that a whole family could come and fight the man over his not accepting to be cheated..that's just pitiful. You are starting something deep because I'm sure his family, here in the US can also retailate on Africans whether in Ghana or the US. How about black people EVERYWHERE stop cheating each other. 🤔 Right is right and wrong is wrong no matter where you live.

I'm not sure if i understood the story completely but from what they said it sounded like they needed someone to drive them to a destination? If that's the case then why is he upset at the driver because he didn't plan his day well? Is it the driver's job to keep the sun up or to drive him to where he wanted? Maybe i'm missing something but if they were only supposed to drive them there and had nothing to do with their other business dealings then no, they definitely did not handle this well. Seems like he was being very petty. And if he doesn't want to pay drivers because his day didn't go as plan, the local people could also decide to not drive him or people like him. Also on the pricing issue. I get the idea of being against being overcharged, but some people take it too far. You're usually only paying cents or an extra dollar. Most people aren't charging you 10x the original price. When i go back to ghana i deliberately pay people twice the price or tip them because i know they're trying to get by. You gotta be a little cheap to be that upset about 10 cents or 3 cents extra.
@originalceo

Thank you. Finally someone with some sense. Only people who should expect to pay local price are locals living working in GH earning Gh wages. Arguing over 10 cedis vs 5 cedis is 🗣️🤬😓🤔 if that's the case just sit your butt down and stay in USA, cos you arguing over 5-10 cedis ($0.50-1.00) for stuff you prolly pay $$$ in US. Continuing with this attitude is gonna make things difficult. Market economics happens everywhere, US included esp if prices are not disclosed/advertised up front. Most places of world if you perceived as rich/a lot above avg you will pay more that's just facts. It's not scamming, it's simple market economics. You can afford to pay more than avg/local they charge you more. Same way prices in big cities trend to be higher than rural towns.
