I remember when everyone on RU-vid and beyond was saying Rescue-Ace, Mikanko, P.U.N.K., Live Twins, Adventurer and Purrely, and many more were absolutel TRASH on release. And look at them now. I guess the community genuinely, absolutely never learns from anything ever because its becoming so tiring to see people clinging on their little """card reviewer""" mindset the minute a new archetype or card is revealed, expecting them to be immediately Tier 0. And calling them wasted. *That's how power-creep is made.* It's beyond comedic. Maybe one day people will realize that Konami purposefully releases Deck Build Packs lackluster to test the waters, so they can design the support accordingly to their weakness. A smart strategy really. That reactionary jackers just don't seem to grasp. Cards aren't set in stone, the charm of Yu-Gi-Oh! is that at any time, anywhere, a card can shine if given the correct context.
@@Gwenth You can't judge a deck based on support we don't know we're gonna get. You may have listed a few success stories but what about ogdoadic, ursarctic, solfacord, magistus, witchcrafter. Besides people saw potential in live twin, purrely and race immediately but they lacked too much to be good off the bat each recieving multiples waves of support to be as good as they are now and adventurer was basically immediatly figured out that it was good the second people realised that you didn't need to play the bad cards. A deck can just be fundamentally bad and while momento has hints of a good deck, and centurion shows high potential. Theres just nothing going for vaalmonica. It needs multiple custom cards to be even playable. 1 card can take a deck from unplayable to tier 1 so if we always "have to wait" for new support then why even bother reading cards to see how good they are cause they might be good in the future
@@Gwenth I agree, but for every rescue ace, there’s an ogdoadic or a solphacord. And you can never tell but I do have to say that it’s super annoying to not know if they’re going to make an absolute custom card for an archetype or just let it wallow in mediocrity
So what you're saying is that they'll release busted supports for the archetypes in here by next year and make them meta like Purrely, Rescue Ace, and Mikanko?
I'm at least going to buy centurion. It seems close, and the recent deck build packs outside of wild survivors have generally been decent to meta. Wanna wait like another week though. Kinda seems like ass to spend like $300 on a tier 2 at best deck.
idk it would take a lot to fix these archetypes. people thought mikanko was decent at release, and in hindsight the core mechanics of purrely and rescue ace weren’t flawed, they just required some very strong support. which they got! tbh just the rarity spread being like VS for centurion makes me think they aren’t going to other making the other archetypes good lol
in other words memento could maybe become decent if they had more stuff to do but valmonica seems actually unfixable without just ignoring its gimmick entirely
I mean, Valmonica was playable in the OCG for 2 whole weeks as a degenerate combo deck when chaos ruler was legal. Ended on the most boring shit ever lmao (Appo, Baronne, Hot Red, Nebufera and maybe the Valmo trap or reframing if you were on amiritara) but hey, it is possible.
Honestly, I think that this is one of the most “fun” sets we’ve had in a while, with nothing being too broken or unfair. I’m also a huge Valmonica fan, easily one of the coolest pendulum decks in a long time, just hoping for support to make it more playable.

Legitimately it's such a cool and fun looking casual pack and I genuinely don't get why yugioh fans trash on anything that doesn't come out with a new meta Archetype.

@@larv23 I think they meant in terms of price and accessibility. There are some staples that would be nice to buy in bulk to not have to trade around in decks, that are a bit too expensive to justify.
I think that's a side effect of the cards being so new and it being the most viable and highest rarity deck of the pack. Unless there's a sudden rise to Tier 1, the prices will probably drop noticeably over the next week.
Imagine paying $300+ for a deck due to its awful rarity distribution and the hype from it in the OCG, only for it to slowly fall out of their metagame like Vanquish Souls did over there as well. Also reminder Konami TCG took out the "deck build pack" moniker from the OCG versions of these sets cause they know it's not feasible to build complete decks without cracking an unreasonable amount of boxes.
At this point I assume Konami just sees the player base slowly shrinking, and is trying to just milk the Big Spenders as hard as possible before the game becomes unsustainable.

Vaalmonica could potentially see play as an engine in decks with a lot of level 4 monsters. The Pendulum scales can provide potential combo extension, the draw spell fixes your hand and the traps are extra interruptions you can add to an endboard. I’ve been testing it with Fluffal and the deck seems solid so far.
And it did; Chaos Valmonica was actually very playable for a period of time in the OCG (It needed Chaos Ruler to be legal so it lasted literally 2 weeks)

If AMDE can suddenly retroactively become an actually decent set, i wouldnt immediately count this one out. Mementos have all the setup needed, the payoff just isn't great. And Centurion is already okay. Future support can do wonders for both of them I...dont know what can be done about Vaalmonica

How many times have we been here? Seriously. How many times have we written deck build packs off just for them to get like 2-3 new cards and then people talk about how bullshit they are? We've done this too many times to keep doing it. That's why I never count DB packs out
Yeah, vaalmonica and memento just feel unfinished at the moment. And like you said need a little more support and fleshing out to potentially be solid decks.
looking at the card list online, if you wanted to buy a box of this and make decks based on it you literally couldn't do so with centur-ion, as over half of their cards are ultra rares, and the others are all super rares. It's basically impossible to pull all of the pieces you need with only 1 or 2 boxes, and artificially makes the deck more expensive for people who want to make it for fun
I like Mememto. It's consistent and decent for a first wave (casual or low rogue at best atm though) ao when the ultras settle I'm getting a core. Let's just hope they don't get the Beetrooper or Ogdoadic treatment and get like 50 waves of support that just do stuff the deck already does instead of giving it new toys for it's weaknesses.
What makes memento the most interesting for me is the text of the boss monster. It special sumons itself by shufeling 5 monsters into the deck or EXTRA deck. This suggests that this deck will get some extra deck cards. My gues is a new link spider whit a field spell searce and a second normal summon effekt or we could get some fusion monster of old normal fusion monsters.
I play Vaalmonica with Marie the Fallen One and Aroma Jar, plus you can make Granite XYZ to search fossil dino and stop specifical summons, and then use the Vaalmonica trap to bounce it back to hand so u can special summon before slapping him back down
It seems like the pattern is release some decks that are missing 1-2 good cards to be viable, and then drop those cards like a year later and the deck finally sees play. Tbf it could be worse but I’d rather get all the cards at once
My only experience with Mannadium was using it in the one of the 3 decks they give you for the most recent festival event in Master Duel where the gimmick is that every card is limited to one(It was thrown in with Kashtira, Tearlaments, and Scareclaw all at once and was somehow functional). Honestly was fun to use.

For Konami to understand that if they want to release new archetypes into the game, for them to actually make them playable out of the box. Vaalmonica and Mementos legit don't do anything and like MBT said, Centur-ION is just worse Manadium. Just print support for old archetypes if the new ones are going to be bad. These cards aren't going to get any support for like the next 2 sets at least, so what was the point then? The reprints are bad too, so why would anybody buy this?
It had a bunch of random reprints that seemed like they were getting cr or qcr, summoner monk or called by the grave would have been great legacy support. And as a subhuman on nemeses tearlaments, I would have loved qcr eschatos.
Funny that this short pops up a day after i went to the store to buy drinks, they have a small card section that i like to call the Walmart Reject Corner and this was there right beside crystal beast starter boxes
Genuinely, I like deck build sets in concept. But I also like Legendary Duelist sets and Animation Chronicles (Battles of Legend in TCG), and I like reprint sets like Rarity... but why do we have more than one in each category per year? Like... I feel like I'd have enough trouble keeping track of 8 sets a year, much less the 13 or so we've had in the past year.
I just saw some leaks for an upcoming toy archetype that looks fun. You set monsters as traps by effect which usually lets them summon themselves and there’s a new continuous spell called toy box which helps cycle them
Man I was excited for Centurion, we havent seen an archetype that where the small monsters tagged themselvd out into the backrow to summon out their big mechas yet. Sadly it does nothing more than calamity lock, and it is not even the first deck that do so.

Deck innately gets shit on extremely hard by literally any interaction, where Imperm on something like Primera or Legatia is potentially enough to just GG next game. Deck also cannot go second. - people are desperately coping to get around this with Horus or SHS
Centurion is actually a control deck when played against an opponent with a brain. Calamity is just a neat trick for punishing players who play 0 interaction.
The Meklord Emperors being printed in this set while not being a card seen in any possible format, and having every printing of them be worth pennies really shows the quality control here.
True, if the set don't dominate the meta like Secret Slayers then why bother releasing them? Next Deck Building Pack power level should be power creeping full power 0 banlist tear ishizu from the get go.

Looking back now that all 3 are playable yet, thanks to support, just shows that you sometimes just have to wait and see how those opinions age like milk.
The archetype I'm most interested in is Memento seeing as they have a cool and creative aesthetic. They have a core game plan and have some of the fundamentals, but they need a few more cards before they can properly take off. I'm interested in seeing what they do with it. Also, I feel bad for people who want to play Centur-Ions. That deck is gonna be mad expensive.
Loved the artwork for memento and tried to learn how to play the deck. Not only does 1 ash blossom end your turn, but it requires an ass load of luck to even end on the best board. Best case scenario (which is extremely rare) you end on 5 monster negates and a monster steal plust I think another trap card that destroys 2 cards or something. Most of the time you won't even be able to get the trap that has the monster negate which requires Tehcutlica on board. It is not an exaggeration to say that the deck is literally unplayable.
To be fair, a lot of decks suffer from Ash depending on the hand. I wouldn't call Mementos unplayable, but they definitely need more cards to help them better set up their game plan, either by making more ways to make Tehcutlica easier to summon or having more ways to fight without it.
Yea, I have a feeling it'll be good next year. Just wait. It's like a prep set. Get it while its cheap? Maybe not. But I have a feeling these cards will be doing something next year.
Rarity collection has a winning formula across the spectrum of fans. Surely Konami will repeat this by revamping Core and deck builder sets! Instead doubles down on the overpriced flops that are Soulburning Volcano and Wild Survivors with the same shit pull rates and bumped up rarties.
I just want good Dragonmaid support cards 😭 Chamber needs her own level 7 or 8 dragon so that using hospitality on her isn't half a waste. I would love a field spell that basically says dragonmaid card effects cannot be negated (you could balance it by saying except during the battle phase) & add an additional effect like once per turn you can either add a Dragonmaid card to your hand or shuffle one or two that are banished or in your graveyard back into your deck & draw 1 card. Also a link one dragonmaid for when you only get the lower level ones, but get your effect negated by Ash would be really appreciated. The effects could be when this card is summoned add one Dragonmaid card to your hand. If this card is attacked special summon a level 7 or 8 card from your hand, deck or graveyard, but return it at the end of the battle phase.
After the support from the LEDE, some of them are quite... Not bad i guess. Memento can quick fusion using mats from graveyard in enemy turn is pretty neat with 5 times negate and some distruption Vaalmonica are pretty much 4* engine at this point but.... Still need more support, and the one that can support vaalmonica are weird but rare card like Quartet wonky (which only available at JP Jumpfes) and Living fire which is Normal Rare in ocg.... Centurion got new supporr that protect its backrow since calamity is bann... But hey at least its pretty consistent. Also in OCG, somehow they overprint the reprint.... Its literally 50% staple.... One of them is bagooska. Damn thing price goes from 10 dollar to 1 lmao
@@nsreturn1365 I can see that for valmonica, since they don’t really have a game plan. But for memento, a 5 mat appo isn’t bad and an extremely easy way to get to the big boy and the trap out would be fantastic. I will say they absolutely missed the mark by not giving them any good grave effects, maybe they had trauma from how busted tear was though.
Deck build sets are so unfun to open. Only 3 ultras in a box and you better hope they are for the deck you want to build. Oh and you'll need 10-15 ultras to complete a core of any the good decks.
Reminds me when they reprinted the Cristal Beast in Battle of legends despite being reprinted a moth ago in the structure deck, is bad but not as bad as this.
They need to change the rarity ratio for these sets back to the way it was all foiled rarity ratio at least then if they changed it back to all foil rarity for Valiant Smashers it would’ve been worth it to buy this set particularly for a foil Gravity Collaspe.
The fact that CotH has been printed 43 times is wild. It's just the crappy wish version of Monster Reborn. Wait a turn to use it, AND MST can technically negate it due to its nature as a continuous trap.
I'm glad that not every set is a broken mess that completely changes the format but they need to at least feel like they can keep up with other decks. Centurion is neat, they're like if Vision HERO's gimmick actually mattered, but Crimson Dragon let's you use King Calamity on your opponent's turn so that's what they're going to do. Valmonica is an interesting concept but unlike in some other games like MTG gaining life incidentally on a good effect just doesn't exist so half the deck requires playing bad cards to trigger them. And Memento... I don't even know where they were going with that one it's just big bungus turbo without any way to actually break a board. These decks feel like they're from 2016 and even then they would have been only okay
and that would be perfectly fine if the decks in the set didn't cost both of your kidneys to purchase. These sets would be so much better if you could pull the entire set from 2-3 boxes so like you said you and your 2 friends could buy a box each and each person would get to complete 1 of the 3 decks and play together. But as it stands you get 3 ultras a box and 10 in a set meaning you need on average 10 boxes for a playset of each card.
Centur-Ion is good in the OCG, mainly because it's the best Horus variant left in the meta since both Tear and PK Adventurer are unplayable there, with Agido, Kelbek, and Gryphon all banned. And because Mannadium is unplayable there since the deck just flat out folds to Maxx "C". ...And by good I mean it's an okay rogue deck in a format absolutely dominated by Rescue Ace and Fire King.
