I restore classic fords and i can tell you from experience that there are major issues with that mustang. You need to look at the shock towers, torque boxes, trunk floor, floor pans, rocker panels, rear quarters, and under the cowel. There is clearly major visual rust damage so you can be sure that if that much is visible then there absolutely is a substantial amount you cant see. With the obvious heavy amount of bondo in the body panels and that huge rust hole on the surrounding outer trim on the convertible top its apparent that no panels were ever replaced or repaired properly. They just slapped a ton of bondo over the rust and basically slapped it together good enough to make it look good from a distance or sell it quickly. With it being a convertible that only makes the odds of rust more likely and when you look back at the video where you showed the missing trunk lock cylinder you will see the layers of bondo just around that area of the cylinder. If the trunk lid was that bad i can only imagine what underneath the car looks like???? That car is essentially a " bondo buggy". If you can get it cheap then go for it, but you need to prepare for MAJOR rust repairs if you plan on fixing it properly. With mustangs being unibody and not having a traditional full frame rust is even more serious because the body in a sense is the frame and even more so due to this being a convertible. When the floors are rusted out you are compromising the rigidity of the car substantially. Also if the drivetrain in the mustang is still its original then you were mistaken when you said it is a 4 speed transmission. It is a 3 speed manual. Replacement body panels are easy to come by with companies such as dynacorn, but with them you are opening up another entirely different can of worms. Aftermarket replacement panels for mustangs NEVER fit correctly. They need to be modified. Anybody here who has experience with them as i do will share with you the far too common horror stories we all share of fenders, quarter panels, and especially torque boxes that have to be heavily altered just to somewhat fit correctly. Mustangs can be one of the most rewarding cars you will ever find to restore, but they also at times can be some of the most challenging. It all depends on how precise you want your repair/restoration to turn out.

Agreed. This is the legendary Bondo Special. Run, Michael ! Plus, this is the basic version, the ones Caroll Shelby called the secretay car. And no, you can't put a 289 cu in, even less a 5.0 on this "frame" and basic suspension. As I said, run, baby, RUN !

Honestly i say keep looking, that car is a 6 cyl 3spd manual no too desirable. I guarantee you will be going down a rabbit hole with that car. Rust is everywhere , in the frame rails , the cowl etc.

The Mustang is a good long term project. I say that because it looks like there maybe several layers of paint on there. The roof might be OK but definitely very dirty and faded. You will probably get parts without any problems, switches and bodywork. I would check current prices and watch the bidding. Michael I wouldn't buy any really wrecked trucks at the moment, you have plenty still to do on the shop truck. Take care Brothers and have a good weekend. 👍

Not leather, vinyl, and most have a center console with that interior decor group (pony), but not every time. As others said, be wary of rust, dipping to strip by experienced shops to rid all rust and bad Bondo is the way to go. It's a six cylinder chassis, 4 lug wheels.

The mustang looks like it a rust bucket, I had restore one before. The hood looks like have a lot bondo, so is the trunk. There us a lot of hidden places to have rust. Convertibles are dangerous to restore it looks like 6 cylinder in line. With a pony interior. The floors are famous to be rusted and the rocker panels. But if you are willing to spend thousands of dollars go ahead. To me is not worth restoring one of those. The jeep looks promising but all depend how much money they are charging. Take care thanks 😊

I read a bunch of the comments and most of them nailed it - the car is a junker under the not so good paint - 4 lug wheels indicate a 6 cyl car - the speedo has probably gone around once - it could be brought back to a nice original car BUT you must get it cheap - Like $2k ballpark and you will have a long term project also you won't make any money either.

My first car was a 1966 Mustang that I got in 1972. It was a notch back, but it had a 289 with a 4 speed and factory a/c. I'd give anything to have it back and would like to see you guys fix one up. I'd venture a guess that the one you're looking at is probably a rust bucket though.

My first car was a 66 mustang coupe sprint 200 6 cylinder... this looks like the sprint 200 convertible. I rebuilt it as well as a 15/16 year old could rebuild one back in 85... took me about a year. I would LOVE to see you do this, but it's quite a lot of work to take on right after what you've just done. You can get your money out of it ONLY if you do it right... and it's a bit more than what you guys usually do. The worst problem spot is under the cowl.... and then ideally you'd want to put a better engine and drive train in it plus the vintage a/c. Matt with the channel Demolition Ranch is putting a diesel in one that has been converted into a ranchtang... like a ranchero but with a mustang front end. I'm LOVING that build with Holden Bros diesel channel - but again... this is a little to Vice Grip and Cleetus than what you guys get into.
