We've been hearing about Ray Mica Mine from some fellow rockhounds, and while in the Spruce Pine, NC area, we decided to swing through and see what we could find. A wide variety of minerals, including aquamarine, black tourmaline, garnets, and of course mica, can be found there. The mine is open to the public for surface collecting and light exploration. Just be sure to steer clear of the fenced off Mine shafts that are still visible on the mountain. The climb to the collecting area was steep, which gave us a bit of a workout, but it was no problem for Max! We had a great time exploring and hope you enjoy the video!
