'64 was a GREAT year! Great Strats were made, the Rolling Stones first album hit, the Beatles send their careers skyrocketing via the Ed Sullivan appearance, The Ford Mustang was born, A Fistful of Dollars began the Spaghetti Western craze, Goldfinger debuted, Anderton's was born, I was born. 'Nuff said.
Yep - I was playing in 1964....and in Jim Marshal's in Hanwell you could have bought a Strat for £50....nobody played them; nobody wanted one. We had to wait until Jimi turned up to change all that. Wish I'd bought a couple - ha!!
I was 17 in 1964....lots of players hanging at JMs at that time....Pete Townshend, Ron Wood, Mitch Mitchell, John Entwistle, Keith Moon, were guys I knew then.
I dont mean to be so off topic but does someone know of a method to log back into an Instagram account..? I was stupid lost the account password. I would love any tips you can give me!
Remember that we all have our licks. The Captain is just lucky enough to have a signature lick that we all know! If we were in his shoes our licks would come out too. If you analyze Charlie Parker’s solos you’ll discover he had only something like 32-33 licks that he arranged over every song. I don’t use different words every time I speak and I’m not gonna play new licks every time I play either. It’s how you use those words and notes that’s interesting! So Rock on Captain because I myself like your licks!
Came here to say dammit Lee give the man his guitar back. And as I was typing that’s what you said you’d do. You’re a class act. I’ll never forget how kind you were to me and my daughter in your shop. We had come to Andertons on a trip to the U.K. from Australia and you were clearly busy and stopped to say hello and chat to us. 15 months later she still talks about it all the time.
My word those look beautiful!! Also, the Captain used some Pete-ish phrasing in his opening solo!!! That's awesome to see! Pete as always is just a effortless nonchalant badass!
I love how you guys can’t help but give a little giggle at the freekin tone of the one with the 64 neck. I feel like I can even tell over youtube compression and everything just how Strat that baby sounds
I'm always tempted to order one of "Pete's Strat" from you. As I live in New Jersey it's faintly ridiculous to have a guitar that was shipped from California to Surrey then back to NJ... However should you do a Shell Pink one at some point I may not be able to resist. Lovely tones therein. Best, Pete.
This is a shot in the dark but does anyone remember that episode of Andertons where Lee is trying to stomp on a pedal and keeps missing, so the editor added in Russian dance music and gave him a hat?
For me, the '61 far and away. And that says more about the '61 than this '64 because the '64 still sounds and looks fantastic. But that '61-- in either the green or the blue -- made me all warm and fuzzy and tingly. 🙂 Wish I could afford one of those. Also, I may have missed it, but I would love to see a quick shot of each of your pedal boards during your guitar demos.
I'd love it in Fiesta Red or Daphne Blue, but alas way out of my budget. I used to have a Custom Shop relic '61 in Fiesta Red on long-term loan from a friend around 2003/4 and he wouldn't sell it to me, even though he didn't ever play it. It was the one guitar I miss the most in my life. It was perfect. This one sounds amazing too.
Great guitars and all but I have to say that I'm more impressed with Lee's improvement, hitting the right notes etc. Goes to show that you can break out of your comfort zone (even after years) and learn new things. Well done Captain, the solo you did in the intro was on-point as was the Pink Floyd bit.
These sound great with the custom shop 65s. There definitely is something special about hand-built guitars. Each one is a special snowflake. I just I wasn't so thrifty :-)
Really enjoyed this video and the detail on the guitars but then discussing how the sound is built with pedals and amp. I may never by an expensive guitar but I have been convinced I need a Dane.
Bruh think it could be a really cool idea for you guys to maybe do a DIY guitar build, maybe like a partscaster or something? Maybe Pete and the Cap could both do it and then showcase them to each other on camera. I know Rob and Lee did one before with the Tele with the scalloped neck but really loved that video so would be cool to see another. Maybe with a bit more of the guitar work being done on camera... could be cool for all the people who are locked in their houses right now, gives us a project to keep busy with... keep up the great work regardless dudes, stay safe!
We need a new batch of Squier Purple Tele, higher-end than the Bullet, maybe with Pete's Monty pickups ! I would instantly buy one of those, with or without an extra pair of Pete's underwear.
Would love to see you try the Lincoln Brewster Strat... not because of the artist but because of the guitar... my first trip to andertons was 3 weeks ago... I walked out with a les Paul standard and then tried the Lincoln Brewster Strat... OMG... I then walked out with that too!!!!! Ps my loyalty points haven’t come through yet after 3 weeks... 🤷🏼♂️👍🏼
I stuck some hand wound JC fat 60's I bought for 350 in a 2004 American Deluxe I bought for 700 that has been naturally relice'd by use and man am I glad I did. I was about to pull the trigger on a custom shop strat, I saved myself about 2-3 grand. If I lived in the UK I would prolly end up buying one of these anyway.. but my last experience importing with Andertons wasn't very fun. /laugh.
I can truthfully say, I enjoy Pete's style of playing 100 times better than Chapper's. Shredders are ok but class styles on soft, gentle picking, get on some crunch, various chord progressions and I will stay tuned to you guys all day.
You guys REALLY need to check out Chris King Robinson's Pedal Pawn Texan Twang. It's a GREAT pedal that's based on the Diaz Texas Ranger that has a mythical reputation. Help a brother out and review that pedal!
Why not put the truss rod adjustment at the headstock?! All these custom shop strats (which I love and play myself) that have modern features like radius and frets but still use a silly throwback like heel truss rod adjustment. Makes no sense! I've had 2 CS strats made for me - all relic in look but modern radius, frets and headstock truss rod adjustment! Cmon folks let's all catch up here
@Mark Seymour cheers man. Of course - where I live the weather's been going hot cold dry wet a ton and throwing my necks all out of wack. Not convenient and not great for the screw holes to have to keep taking the neck off to make guessing adjustments. Seems like this, as a holdover is just a silly one when easy solutions exist. To argue otherwise is pretty much a non-starter.
That's what's so wonderful about Lee - the pulls off near-perfect Pink Floyd riffs starting 15:00 - and just plays it down! Never showy, never bragging. Masterful guitar and effects demo from the Captain himself!
So, I'm lucky enough to own a 1958 strat and it's incredible. But I've never played a CS strat. Worth a go? How close is it too the real thing? I can't help thinking I could sell mine, buy a CS, and have a fat wodge of change...
I think this guitar just has some Antertons history, and is a guitar they really like. The purple tele became super popular amongst followers, so that one was a no brainer.
