@@seansolo5318I feel like there are definitely times I remember him just whipping the shield off his arm. If anything I think him holding it by the edge is rarer than him just throwing it like the straps aren’t there
Tyranth is an absolute menace with the captain america shield. Shad is disturbingly accurate with the heater shield which should be the least aerodynamic. And Nate is the master of the g string.
@@vikingsoulreaper8573and there is the problem with throwing knives, throwing shields, and such. You no longer have your weapon and the hits are unreliable. I see all these as a last ditch extremely close range option of dubious lethality mostly useful as a distraction to allow you a slight head start before running away.
Yeah, and Captain America's shield is also canonically disproportionately light because of its material in movies. Vibranium is approximately 1/3 the weight of steel. Based on the weight of the shield in this video, it'd only be a measly 1 kg. This would make the frisbee air foil effect much more apparent.
@@andrewli6606if you did it with titanium you could do some really nasty things with an edge. The best way to make it an actual weapon for thrown use would be laying a blade edge of a different material
@@andrewli6606 And it absorbs 100% kinetic energy, how the hell it can hit anything that would do damage? You shield bash with that thing, your enemy would feel a gentle push at most. If you throw that thing, it should straight drop when hit anything.
Vibranium absorb, which means it would be the same as throwing a wet towels on the wall, it would bounce as much as the towel....it is the Adamantium rim that make it bounce
I remember more than fifty years ago trying to emulate Captain America with a metal trash can cover. It helped with the learning curve when I eventually got my hands on a frisbee. I live vicariously through your experiments.
that name has more than one person behind it, but for some reason, i feel like it might be one and the same. but that is JUST a Theory. a *FAN THEORY!*
Those shields can take a beating. I watched Tyranth's Screen Tested episode on the Captain America shield. It has gone through many smash tests and still flies mostly straight. I was suprised at how well the heater shield flew because of its shape. But I guess the flat edge angle is going to be helpful no matter the profile shape. I love your experiments, they always make think on things. You guys have so much fun going nuts medieval style. And the pokemon buckler is adorable! I was hoping that was intentional design work.
And in captain America the first avenger it's actually the shield he starts of with before finally officially using the vibranium shield the kite shield is the one red skull creates a fist shaped dent in when he punches it during his first proper encounter with cap
It’s so cool to see that what was talked about in Shad’s old video is actually being tested in his recent ones. Really shows how far he’s come as a RU-vidr.😊
Nates delivery for that plushie was awesome. I bought one but I also want the whole cast as plushies. Also, I think Nate's should look like he does in this video.
I remember playing City of Heroes which had a Shield Defense set for some melee classes. It lacked a throw but it did have an attack; a short range AoE where you clicked on the ground and did knock down and damage. Was cool. Oddly enough DCU Online has a surprisingly good shield weapon set...
day 111 of asking for a video on the misconceptions of medieval weddings and how they can be incorporated into fantasy if we want them. Or a video on the Arquebus because that is probably an under appreciated medieval weapon.
I've said this on previous videos but ever since Nate and Tyranth joined the team I've loved how brotherly the three of you are. The bickering and competition between each of you is as entertaining as the actual testing for me.
the Vibranium in the shield make it absorb kinetic energy, but would also make it a into a wet blanket if thrown on a wall as it would absorb the impact and just drop, but the shield is made of Adamantium AND Vibranium, the Adamantium make it possible for the shield to bounce. It being made of both those material makes it pretty much indestructible. Only a real god level being like the Celestials, the Beyonder, The Living Tribunal, Sentry, Owen Reece etc who could separate the atoms of the shield and just "unmake" it can destroy it. and no, adamantium can not be reheated and then cut off like in that silly movie
When they introduced it in the movie, Tony’s dad said it “Stronger than steel, and only 1/3 of the weight” that combined with his super strength makes this pretty viable
I once heard that the French were quite talented rifle throwers. I asked a Frenchman about it once and he said tons of loud and angry sounding French words then spit on the ground and walked away. So I guess they are very passionate and secretive in regards to what technique they use. If you know any Frenchmen or Frenchmen ladies, maybe you can get them to share the technique with us here?
The French lost one damn war and everyone forgets about a thousand plus years of European military domination. What does that say about America when we couldn’t even beat a bunch of sandal clad Vietnamese rice farmers and Afghan goat herders?!
Missed opportunity to give the shield to the plushy, hidding the plushy from sight, then edit it so that the real Shad emerges from behind the shield. Superhero power up!
Another fun fact, even in the movies the original was a heater. It was the shield he used in his USO performances and for his initial rescue of Bucky from the Hydra base. Only after that did he get the more iconic round vibranium shield.
The red and white shield i kept waiting for a "Pikachu I choose you!" And also if throwing a shield being thrown has some historical president, i feel like it would be a move of desperation to be able to escape.
In Gundam Seed, Athrun's Aegis Gundam Thrown the shield to Cockpit of Sky grasper, which was supporting Strike gundam behind, chopping Tolle's head apart. Athrun was angry about taking away his friend, Nicole by Sword strike's Large sword(Athrun... run... my pia...)
The shield in the comics and movies is supposed to be a single sheet of curved metal and not a series of rivetted circles. And of course the fact that its made from an indestructible space material helps a lot.
i love the fact that Nate is built like RPG character all focused on the one role of being good with the one handed sword and shield wearing and didnt had any points left to allocate into ranged weapons😂😂😂😂
Even if you did have a vibranium shield with identical features to that of Captain America, don't forget the fact that Steve Rogers was injected with a mysterious unknown serum and vita-rays making him granting him superhuman abilities. You'd have to have superhuman abilities yourself if you want to use the shield as effectively as Captain America.
Boromir been taking acting lessons. That was a melodramatic death. By the way, scriptural speaking .. does Shad display his swords at home on a Shadrack?
If any of you care, the arrows, if they had vibranium tips, would act how they did in the video according to movie logic. MCU vibranium damages MCU vibranium.
Hello Shad. I'm not a Mormon, but I have really appreciated your videos explaining Mormon views and history. It has challenged me to re-examine bias I had about Mormons. Since your Sword of Laban video I stumbled across Mormon shows such as Ward Radio which has further challenged me. I was thrilled to see you on Final Frontier on Sunday. It was really great to hear your arguments, thank you!
4:25 Fun fact: we get the word lenticular and lens both from lentils, which are naturally shaped like that. yes those plant things. lenses are lentil-shaped-objects.
Damn that Viking shield is quite heavy, it could certainly be around 3kg as well. (I made some myself) Caps shield is a pretty good design, it deflects well because of the curve and it's not too big or too small. In skilled hands you'd probably be fine even against armor breaking melee weapons.
I appreciate that this team does not take themselves seriously, which makes watching their videos very enjoyable. Seriously -- a scientific investigation into throwing shields? Haha! Keep it up!
To be honest, shields were never meant to be thrown, but are almost always better off being held by you, in case you need it. It would be easier to carry 20 throwing stars than a shield, and you would probably do a lot more damage with them, unless the opponent were armored. Throwing your shield makes about as much sense as throwing your empty pistol, and the pistol is probably more likely to hit, since it flies more like a rock, than a very heavy frisbee.
29:11 Seeing the results of the different swings, made me realize that spike-tip was not meant for armor: It was an e-brake for opposing calvary charges..
