We used the Steven Slate kick ten to compare the SSL BiG SiX to our full sized SSL. Join us as we dive into this mixer and see ho it stack to the full sized big brother.
@@makebelievestudio Flat without EQ was pretty close. Guessing C was SSL. That EQ cut at 9db all three were way different. It was hard to tell which was which but I felt B was truest to what I imagined in my mind's eye with a huge cut at 9db - because that one sounded like almost all the mids were gone but the low end and top end was still there. Not sure if that would make it the SSL or not though - just the one I preferred out of the three (given the 9db cut at 700hz). Then the 3db cut was a bit closer together. I did hear a big difference in low ends, but as to which was which was hard to know. Thinking C was the SSL, but I could be wrong about that too.
Also I'd like to see a similar series to this with API hardware versus the plugins or a neve series with hardware vs the plugins too. Those would both be a cool series to do next 💪💪
In my humble opinion ,it seems to me that the ssl big six was designed to be a all in one solution ,I would use the interface that it comes with, that gives 16 in and 16 out, reminds me of a Yamaha N12 that I use to own, that sounded great.
Honestly this is a great video. It was difforent but not like a crappy way. I do think you guys should have looked at the diforences in the curves with a analyzer l, waves q clone or plugin doctor just to show where they have differences. But great video i enjoyed it!
I have not had a chance to compare the big six vs's its plugin variants but I have been shooting out the SSL vs the Waves SSL in some of our other videos. Most people cant seem to be able to pick one out of a line up!! - Rick
would of been nice had you tried to see if you could match the console sound with the Big Six by manipulating it's EQ settings. Would think their could be all kinds of factors involving dialing in the settings from one unit to the other.
I wasn't really trying to see if I could get the SSL to sound like a big Six just if the big six sounded like the desk. The console is clearly more flexible and I believe I could get everything to match besides the make up gain on the channel compressor and the LMC in general. But thank you for the comment and it is noted for the future!
@@makebelievestudio meant tweaking six to see if you could dial it in. I've been hot for one to replace a tascam model 12 that interfaces well with DAW. The Six just kicked it up a notch with better converters, and I'm sure the channel strips are better.
Don’t know yet what it’s gonna be so no promises!! Thanks for watching it means a lot to us!! You can for sure bet on something physical being given away!!
