I read the led uv ones turn yellow if over cured. And they only require 30 to 60 seconds. So the last one was over cured causing yellowing and getting brittle .

Im new to resin but videos & personal experience say curing them too long will yellow and/or warp the item. Also, try flipping the mold over after the first cure to cure from the other side.

Have u guys tried Ice Resin that's usually used in jewelry making? It's super simple to use, self leveling, small batches r easy because it's the kind that comes in the syringe thing. Don't let that turn u off from it. U just have to push push out the amount u wanna use put the tips back on the ends, mix for a tiny amount of time n a little paper cup and it's ready to go. It doesn't require the UV light or anything special at all. It dries like glass and can even b done n layers. Great for folks who r nervous about it and wanna start with something super small.

Do you think how close the UV light is to the resin while curing plays a role innthe amount of yellowing on the two that it happened with? I'm just curious if it kinda scorches or something and causes more of that?...or possibly the amount of time you cured, along with the proximity of the light?

You need to protect yourself better. Even if they don’t smell bad they are highly toxic and you should be using a respirator and a ventilated space. Also use UV eye protection because for those of us who do stuff like this all the time it will damage your eyes.
@ryanokeefe12
@ryanokeefe12 Год назад
1) They aren't highly toxic. They are NO VOC resins. The resin CURES, it doesn't DRY. There is no solvent that evaporates (is volatile) to complete the hardening. There is an exothermic reaction, which is simply UV light triggering the crosslinking of the component chains. Please read the SDS of any product before you use it and BEFORE YOU COMMENT ON RU-vid. 2) UV Curing lights do not damage your eyes. Eye damage is experienced at levels lower than 400nm. UV curing lights are 405-450nm... Even at 400nm, you would need to stare at the light for a year to get some irritation.

I just have a couple of thought… with my 2-part resin the hardener yellows over time in the bottle. I wonder if that is the case also with UV resin? I wonder if the ones that were yellow had just been sitting in some warehouse somewhere and are old and it’s just the luck of the bottle. Also, regarding the bubble-doming, can that be caused by over processing, too much time under the light? I have no idea myself. I’m just throwing the possibilities out there.

Gavriella, try the one you got anyway with the proper length of cure time. I think she did a great job of keeping things fair in the video, but because she had an LED light that last resin was way over-cooked. That's like having a cake that should bake for 30 min in the oven for an hour and 20 min. You'd expect it to be burned. With the exception of the last product, I thought it was a great video😊 Best of luck.

@margaretmathis4775

I’m a UV newbie and have watched a lot of videos. I found out that if the resin cures too fast that it can warp. One solution is to raise the light a little higher from the pieces. Also (and I learned this when my “resin” light died and I had to switch to my “nail” light), my “nail” light has an incremental setting, where it starts off at a lower light level, then switches to a higher level - despite having to hit the button a few times, this type of light cured the resin perfectly without any distortion (bending). Also, some resin brands are more prone to this.

Do you need a mask working with JDiction uv resin?
@katholeenloveit8923
@katholeenloveit8923 Год назад
You need a respirator, nitrile gloves (latex doesn't prevent all chemicals from seeping through) and a well ventilated room. Over time this stuff can cause some serious health problems. Edit: be sure the respirator has chemical vapor filters.
@ryanokeefe12
@ryanokeefe12 Год назад
@@katholeenloveit8923 Wrong. Please read the SDS of these items. Epoxy and UV resins do not contain in VOCs. They CURE when hardening (they don't DRY), meaning nothing is released into the air (Toxic or non toxic) other than their odour. Respirators are only recommended for the odour and gloves are only recommended to prevent sticky hands.
@xyz7572
@xyz7572 11 месяцев назад
@@ryanokeefe12 odour literally _is_ airborne chemicals reacting with the neuro-receptors in the nose. If you can smell something, _anything,_ that means there is enough molecules of a substance in the air attaching to the receptors in your nose as you inhale for it to reach the threshold for activating a neural signal to your brain, where you consciously register it. Not all chemicals are dangerous (all substances in the world are chemicals, pure water is a chemical), but saying something “doesn’t release chemicals, it only smells” is an oxymoron and straight up not true. Resin releases chemical gases as it cures (it’s called “off-gassing”), and that is the thing you can smell when you inhale. The level of toxicity and whether the fumes will cause permanent damage to your lungs or not depends on the resin. Some can cause severe allergic reactions, while others can cause more long-term damage to skin and internal organs if you continue to expose yourself to it without using proper protective equipment.
@ryanokeefe12
@ryanokeefe12 11 месяцев назад
@@xyz7572 Thanks for stating the obvious. Maybe next time, try reading what I've written so that you aren't replying with something that doesnt align with what I've said in any way. I've stated VOC's.. Volatile Organic Compounds. Nothing about chemicals is even referenced in my comment. Have a read of some safety data sheets before you make illogical comments. A scent does not cause damage. A scent is not an indicator of toxicity.
@xyz7572
@xyz7572 11 месяцев назад
@@ryanokeefe12 yes, you did talk about chemicals, because this _entire discussion_ is about chemicals, and the volatile organic compounds you’re talking about _are_ chemicals, Ryan. Saying “a scent can not cause damage” is straight up incorrect and just shows that you have not understood what a scent actually is. “Having a scent” simply means that something has the ability for some of its molecules to bind to a neuro-receptor in the nose, and thereby make them send a signal to the center of your brain that handle smells to tell you there’s something in the air. Scent and toxicity are two unrelated properties a chemical can have. Some airborne toxins are scentless, some have scents (ie its molecules can bind to the neuro-receptors in your nose), but whether a compound smells or not has no bearing to its toxicity, or vice versa. When you breathe in an air-borne gaseous compound, your nose receptors don’t “catch” _all_ those gas molecules and prevent them from going down into your lungs and from there into your blood stream. The smell of a chemical (ie the ability of that chemical to have some of its molecules bind to your neuro-receptors) does _not_ take away from its toxicity, and it doesn’t mean that by having a smell your nose caught _all_ of the molecules by having them all bind to your nose’s neuro-receptors and prevented all of them from going further into your pulmonary system . That something smells does _not_ mean it’s non-toxic. Those two things are _unrelated._ (And for your future reference, VOCs are not the only toxic chemicals there are, so saying “there is no VOC in this resin” does _not_ mean it’s not toxic, or that someone shouldn’t be wearing a respirator. A chemical does not need to be a volatile organic compound for it to be dangerous to the human body. It is a bit worrying that you’re acting as if there aren’t plenty of non-organic compounds which are highly toxic to the human body. You’re spreading highly dangerous misinformation. “Volatile and organic” does not mean “this is the only thing that’s toxic”, it simply means “evaporates easily and contains both carbon and hydrogen”) You are incorrect, Ryan, and doubling down with incorrect statements does not make what you’re saying any less untrue.
