Copied from my post on matt carriker channel Your suppose to have a shade 15 lens to look at an eclipse. Incase you didnt know. That is the same required lens for a welder. But that isnt what they use. A number 10 lens is standard. An oxy-acetylene torch lens is a shade no. 5 lens. Really dark sun glasses are about a 2.5-3 lens and normal sunglasses are about 1-2 shaded lens. You can take an arc welders lens and a gas welders torch lens and hold them together. Altho that maybe a lttle dark for a camera, around 11-13 would work best. Expect welding shops to be sold out of them by the weekend. So my question is.. How are you going to help prevent all the peoples from frying their eyes while staring at the sun during the event? BTW. You can not see the moon passing without the lens the glare is just to bright to actually see the edge of the moon and the edge of the sun.. all you really see is the edge of the glare. Meaning without a 12-15 lens all you are going to see is it go from bright to dim. You wont see anything else except the blinding light get smaller just when it is fully eclipsed then go out an be blinded during all the rest of the passing. Then you will be completely blinded again when it re-emerges again but that wont matter because they can not see already by then. By time it is over everyone without lenses are going to be partially blind for hours. Some can have blisters feeling like sand in their eyes that get rubbed raw lasting 4-10 days. While perm cloudiness can be an effect forever. So are you passing out disposible lenses.. giving instruction not to stare at it with warning of headaches and stomach cramps feverish side effects and/or chills??? How are you protecting all the attendancees who just wanna dance and have fun?? PEACE EVERYONE! Be smart enjoy the day!! MaMa's "Protect your Children" because they wont feel they are hurting their eyes untill its over and to late.
