We enjoyed our stay near Anchor Point but after a few unexpected incidents, a storm was beginning to roll in and it was time to continue our overland adventures. We decided to head north away from the storm. We meet some great people during this leg of the journey in our Winnebago Revel 4x4 while camping on the beaches of Alaska.

I can’t remember the brand of the one we got. We don’t showcase it much because we do have to turn the engine on while it is heating up but makes a lot more water faster than our kettle. Congrats on your purchase! Definitely a much different rig. I’ll message again once I figure out the brand.

Just wondering...you were very close to Homer, AK. Did you go down there and out on the Homer Spit? Maybe that's not new to you? (I took my family there a while back.) Also, you headed back toward Anchorage, but if you turn south toward Seward, there's a campground in Primrose that's also free. (I camped there with my family, too.) There were hiking trails, up to a beautiful lake. When I drove the coast you were on, down toward Homer, I saw more bald eagles on that route than I have anywhere!
@WingsandWheelsAlaska
@WingsandWheelsAlaska 4 года назад
Hi! Well I really love your screen name!! As for Homer, yes we've been there many many times. We went down onto the spit in this video but it was being torn up and worked on. All the little shops (and our favorite bar) were still closed due to Covid. We are also still attempting to stay out of smaller communities. It was shocking to see how much they have raised the prices on camping on the spit. We used to throw up a tent for free or pay 5.00 in the general camping area. We left out our feelings about about how the town of Homer has changed. I'm not sure we've been to Primrose. We will have to check it out. We ended up heading North. Far far north, without really planning on going there. You'll see that soon! Thank you for joining us and sharing your experience with us! xoxo

Loved the laid-back episode of your adventures! The juvenile eagle interaction with Ember was fascinating, and I don't think for a minute that it would have caused harm to Ember. The eagle signals attack with talons out. Even when the eagle got close, it never deployed them. My guess is that the eagle is scared of humans because we're bigger, but Ember is about the same size, so it just wanted a friend. I've been in campsites where huge barred owls will sit above the campsite and just watch everyone, and they are fantastic hunters. I even saw one that would come down and land on the picnic table so that we could feed it chicken nuggets. This was back in the early 80's when no one had video equipment around, but I remember it clearly. The Ember / Eagle interaction reminded me of hippos and crocodiles. For some odd reason, those two completely different species love hanging around each other. First time I saw that in Africa I was amazed. I loved seeing the food menu for the day. You folks certainly get far more fancy than I do, but it was great seeing it all the same. I've seen you use that plastic water holder for a while now. Have you noticed any plastic taste in the water? Anyway, I loved seeing the views and all with you two! Keep up the great work, and I hope you get to see lots more awesome stuff!
@WingsandWheelsAlaska
@WingsandWheelsAlaska 4 года назад
Funny you mention the water because the last time I filled my hydro flask I asked Jim. "How long has this water been in this jug?" 😂. The water in it seems to only stay "tasty" for a couple of days before we have to fill it with fresh water. Jim doesn't drink water (I know right??) so he doesn't notice. I've been looking into a "life straw" filter since we are around such pure sources of water so often I think it would be a great investment. Agreed with the Eagle and Hippo theory. Without Talons out I could tell the Eagle just wanted to "play" when they first met down on the beach and it didn't fly away when Ember ran up to it I knew it was like "Yeah, screw you, I don't have any natural predators, you don't scare me you little red headed bitch". 😂😂😂. I still felt like deep down the eagle was sizing up Ember's eyeballs as a tasty treat so I didn't want to encourage that relationship too much. Plus there were a few people around and well, you know how people get about Eagles. As for our food. I don't know what has gotten into Jim. He's NEVER been that fancy until recently. I was lucky to get a bun with my hotdog in the past. Usually it was beef jerky and beer for days! He's finding joy in new things to cook, especially with the grill. He also knows that I HAVE to eat (I think my blood sugar drops) otherwise I turn into a raging .... meanie. And I can't just "snack" I need real food. It's takes about 10 years for him to figure out but he's slowly catching on. FEED ME! 😁. Hope you're doing well. See you again soon.
@briangreen9677
@briangreen9677 4 года назад
@@WingsandWheelsAlaska A word of caution regarding the life straws. They are to be used in emergency conditions over a brief period of time. They are not to be used while filtering gallons of water. I personally use a pitch from "Zero Water" and absolutely love it. I also have an oversized wide mouthed Thermos I got at Cabela's and throw ice (also made with that water) in before filling the Thermos. The idea being that you have a lot of ice cold water whenever you need it and you don't have to worry about the taste issue because you're just using the pitcher for the filtration and the processed water goes right into stainless steel. As someone who puts down over a gallon of water a day, it's a system I found highly effective. There's no reason you couldn't use river water through the pitcher. It's just a suggestion that I'm confident that would work orders of magnitude better than a life straw. The food thing is something I can tell affects me a bit less than you, but I still understand it. The way to instantly snap a low blood sugar "crankiness" is with a good old fashioned spoon of honey. Not only does it taste fantastic, but it'll bring you right back up in a hurry. Of course, food should immediately follow that, but honey is a lifesaver for me when I get like that. If you can find some local honey that's even better because you know where it came from. I think Jim is doing a great job branching out with his cooking, and while there were far too many vegetables in there for my carnivore diet, it was still great to see. Maybe grilling is what will make him keep you fed!?!?! 😂 It's just too bad that you aren't able to through some hickory chips on the fire for that amazing smoky taste. Keep up the great work and I can't wait to see where you find yourselves next! Take care!!! 😃

We will show it more in the future. We were waiting to really get a feel for it before we said too much about it but we do review it in our 1 year review. The eagle had it's eyes on Ember the entire time. I've never seen anything like it.

Eagles are giants there in Homer/AP lol And the shower set up in the Revel doesnt seem like it would be that much work.Thanks for sharing!

I'm glad you think so! When we first saw that set up were were like "HECK NO" I didn't want to have to go through any challenges just to take a shower. But after seeing how coveted a shower in a van is it's been worth it! At one time there was a lady in Homer who used to take care of Eagles, feed them, etc. I recall she was asked to stop and that was a disappointment but I don't remember the full story behind it. Thank you for spending some time with us today!

Ember is the star of the vlog. Rename: Ember and friends!

Agreed! She could have her own show. All she has to do is prance around being Princess Ember. I mean, she makes friends wherever she goes, she does her own thing and actually owns us, we don't own her. Thanks for spending some time with us again Tresha, or....spending time with Ember. 😂😂😂. See you again soon. xoxo

I think it was sizing Ember up to see if she had any snacks to steal. 😂. That's funny you made poppers and shrooms too! I have this jalapeño dip that is ahhhmazing. I'll have to figure out how to make it without an oven. I've been looking into those I think it's called an Omni pot? or something like that but they don't make it induction yet so it's not an option. I hope to play around with my insta pot here sometime soon. We were just talking about you guys this past few days. We were in an area you would LOVE. It got a little chilly but it was so darn beautiful. Can't wait for you guys to get up here so we can show you around!! xoxo
