The secret is to look beyond the smell, then you realize that the taste is intense salty and go incredible well with raw union, butter and varm potatoes on a flatbread. You know, the butter melts from the hot potatoes and the intense salt combined with the raw union brings it all together. It’s extremely jummy. (The snaps also helps😉)
I don't understand why everyone are so afraid to stick in the fork in the fish, it's dead so it's not going to poke them back or anything like that. For people in The UK and The USA and wherever they give it a try, would it be acceptable to dip the fish in a glass of water, to reduce the smell a little bit? The brine in the can has done it's job so it's not really needed any more. I understand that true Surströmming lovers in Sweden would say No! with emphasis but for there poor people outside Sweden perhaps some leniency can be accepted...? / B.

@@bravesirrobin6293 A tip (if you going at it again sometime) We swedes never ever it it from the can directly. Thats just awful haha Open the can when fridge cold. Let it breathe for about 30min and dont stire it. Soft flatbread, cooked potatoes, red union, cream fresh and then the fish in small bits. Make a wrap and eat. An whole other expeiance. Thanks for the laughs :)
@@bravesirrobin6293 For next time (if there will be a next time), submerge the can into a bucket of water and open it. Eat it with flat bread, onions, potatoes, sour cream, and make sure to gut the entrails out if the fish isn't filleted.
As a swede, see videos like these being absolutely served, eaten the wrong way is hilarious. You also ( in my opinion and what looks like ): got the worst one of the brand which is also a + (Yeah there is few other brands haha! ). cause this one in all of a nasty mush of everything inside and outside of the fish rather than a fillet that is bit harder to prepare. haha! I recommend the brand: Kallax which comes pre-cleaned. Its for sure a lifetime experience, and very tasty if well served + Beer! Also note self if ever taking a vissit to sweden that every august 3th its the traditional eating day.
Have you tried "bäver gäll". You but a gland from a beaver in spirits in a glas jag with a lid.. Let it sit for some time . Take maybee a teaspoon of the liquid och dilute it with a glas och pure spirits. Tastes almost like whiskey. 🙃
Now there's a world of a difference between smelling something and smelling something with the intention to eat it. And none of the women dared to try!
