I recently broke my ankle, and was sitting in a UK hospital fracture clinic for six and a half hours (that’s the NHS for you!), fortunately with my dad for company, waiting for an x-ray. My dad was pointing out some white stitching that was starting to come undone around the seam of his shoe sole, and I jokingly said that he had a white line defect! An older Asian gentleman overheard my wittering, and suddenly exclaimed "Nate the Hoof Guy!" We then spent a really pleasant time talking about your videos and treatment options for cow’s feet. 😂 Just thought you’d like to know the obscure places where your fans turn up!
6 hours is good for UK hospitals. Iv waited almost 24 hours and I know people who have even been turned away and told to book an appointment. At least we have nate to watch while we wait 😂.
I'm sorry about your ankle. I'm from the US and that's a pretty good wait time in the ER. Also that's so cute gushing over Nate! We need a fan name for him.
To combat an infection I have in my mouth, the hygienist gave me a chlorohexadine solution. I mentioned that I knew what that was since I watch this channel. Turns out she is a fan also.
A dental assistant used Chorohexadine in my mouth a couple of weeks ago! I was like, what? She hadn't heard of Nate and I did a horrible job trying to explain hoof trimming because I couldn't think of the words "hoof" or "trimming". Cutting cows feet doesn't really get the point across. She just stared at me blankly. 😶
Nate, you give me modern-day "Mr. Roger's vibes." Don't change. Also, I like that close-up angle at 3:53. Who knew hoof trimming could be so artistic?!
I have noooo idea how I became interested in these videos…I don’t think I’ve even stood next to a cow, but here I am invested in learning about their foot health. 🤣😂😂
I saw the digital dermatitis as soon as you pulled away some of the sole, though it was mostly covered up with dirt and the like. Great job Nate 👩🏻🏫👏🏻🐄🥰‼️
I'm watching this on a break at work so I couldn't tell if the backup beeping was from the video or the equipment here. Kinds weird to realize it was both.
DEFINITELY would love to see a follow-up with this one❤ both to see how the injured claw heals, and to see how that dark line at the tip of the other claw (under the block) works its way out over time🥰
I know there is no way of knowing, but I've often wondered if the chlorahexidine in the spray bottle burns like alcohol or sea breeze astringent when it encounters the raw digital dermatitis? Same for the salasitic acid powder? Thanks for sharing.
The chlorhexidine doesn't sting. It's often used as a replacement for alcohol in no-sting mouthwashes. The salicylic acid might sting a bit upon application, but it also provides pain relief
You can get chlorhexidine in formulations for humans. I think it's even over the counter. It's commonly used as a pre-surgery wash to rid the skin of dangerous bacteria. IMO it can sting a little if you get it on something open, but it's nothing compared to alcohol or peroxide.
Thanks for the video! One question: Why do you (since around one year) keep adding the block before you finished trimming the injured claw? Doesn't that come into your way?
I wonder how fast 'hoof' grows? After putting a block on one side, how long does the other side take to heal, and solid hoof to grow in place? Thanks for the video!
I watched some of your videos and for some reason i find them interesting and, weird enough, relaxing. Well, may be because it's not my hoofs with leasions, cracks and DD... And i learned a new english word "vieh truck" (written corrctly?) which is close to the german word "Viehlaster", both meaningjust the same, a vehicle for livestock transportion.
Everytime I watch you I wanna cut my toe nails😅. I enjoy your work your so gentle with the cows. I tryed watching another channel, and did not enjoy it as much as I enjoy yours. 😊
Okay, now I *know* I'm more than just a casual fan of these videos. As soon as I saw that uneven hoof production and those obvious spots of delamination, I caught myself saying "digital dermatitis."
Once again, Awesome job and explanation, Nate!! I have often wondered with the claws that are worse than some, is this something the farmers are supposed to see before it gets that bad? Or is it just the way it is?
would love to see a follow up on this one in particular if thats possible, would love to see the various stages of that ball shape becoming a flat hoof again
salicylic acid is pretty good for the skin. I have a medicated shampoo for scalp acne and it does improve things, so long as I don’t scratch my head too much
It's not great for healthy skin as it dries it out, but it's anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and facilitates the peeling off of dead skin and tissue so it's great for acne and other skin conditions like dandruff, warts and psoriasis.
I'm SO glad you don't have music & an idiotic thumbnail of yourself looking alarmed. Your channel is perfect & all that stuff is so--no pun intended--cheesy.
It seems from watching your videos, that it is always one claw or the other that needs a block, and one that needs help. Is there ever a time when both claws are in trouble, and a block won't work?
Speaking of grinders, Nate, what grade do you use on those grinding wheels? You must be using a coarse grinder to roughen one claw for the block glue you use. EDIT: 3:54 Gad, who was expecting to see a close up of you applying that tacky glue to the black rubber block?
