I'm Irish, yi6u definitely not the only foreign tourists, Romania gets over 11 million visitors each year. I personally think it is the best country in Europe by far. Great food, amazing places to see, great welcoming people. I think the West is very unfair with Romania. I will always go there in the summer and winter. Enjoy guys
I think Romania has a bad reputation because of some people that are not really representative for this country. We are a proud, patriotic people. We love our country, our christian legacy, and we had and will die for our country.
As a Romanian, i wanna say thank you for being one of the people who really enjoy and share positive thoughts about Romania's beautiful places and people! People like you are always welcome in our country!
I lived in Braila on the Danube years ago, it was brilliant and I love the city and Bucharest as well, I went up the mountains to visit some famous monasteries, truly beautiful. I love Romania and everything to do with it, its safe and I never felt out of place. The other thing is a lot of the population speaks English, although I did try to speak Romanian, one of my favourite countries in the world
Romanians don’t ever have mici and beer for breakfast, the mici are a snack or a meal in itself (depending on how many you order but after 11 or 12 o’clock when the morning is over); mici for Romanians are the equivalent to a burger in US. I don’t know if Americans have burgers with beer for breakfast but Romanians don’t, unless they are coming home from an all night party where they drank a lot and on the way home no other food outlet is open but a mici stand. The regular Romanian breakfast usually consists of an omelette or fried or poached eggs with bread and tomatoes or assorted salad, and some platter of cheeses and salami and/or ham or both, or French toast ( very popular with a cup of tea) or bread and butter with jam or honey or sweet biscuits with jam & butter and all of the above accompanied by a mug of milk, cocoa or tea or black or white coffee. At least one of these hot beverages are a must for breakfast.
PS In a produce market you will always see people drinking beer at 9-10 o’clock in the morning because those people selling/working in the markets are waking up at 3-4am to start the day and set up the stands and bring in their produce and get ready to open at 6-7 in the morning, so by 9-10am they already had breakfast a long while ago because they started the day already 5-6 hours before that and they had a rushed breakfast 4-5 hours prior to that beer, for them 9 or 10 in the morning it’s sort of like lunchtime.
I think this is like my 4th comment here but I have to 😂😂😂 Being Romanian means that I can explain things that other people don’t understand about my country. 31:50 Caru’ cu Bere is not a restaurant, it wasn’t built to be a restaurant and will never be a restaurant really, its name translated makes it clear: “The Beer Cart-wagon” . Caru’ cu Bere was built on purpose to be a beer- house and that’s what it was, it is and will be forever, food being secondary to the drinks actually, the food is pub-food, nothing more and not much to chose from, like in a pub or beer-house anywhere. People are supposed to go there to drink beer, but the booking is necessary not for the posh food, it’s necessary because every tourist and every other Romanian who lives abroad and re-visits Bucharest for a reason or another, feels like they have to go there and in order to avoid frustration and a ginormous queue at the door (as few years ago used to be, when 80-150 people were queueing there just for the architectural design inside all the time) they opted for reservations/booking to decongest the sidewalk in front . Only the comments of tourists and visitors, vloggers included turned it into a restaurant because Romanians know pretty well that Caru’ cu Bere is a beer-house/posh pub, not at all posh eatery. People go there for the architecture, for the atmosphere and those who know well Romanian history go there because all the great Romanian writers and poets and some famous politicians used to gather in that place about 100 years ago and in between the two WW.
No it isn't! If you don't know which areas not to go to, you can get robbed and stabbed midday! I freacking saw a girl getting kidnapped in front of me at 2pm midday with people on the street in the centre of the 3rd important Romanian city!
Hello. I am wondering who advice you to have mici for breakfast? Mici is usually a heavy food, not for breakfast ....the airport is wild? I think you can use the word busy to describe it... and the comparison of the traffic in Bucharest with SE Asia, not fair at all.... and yes, Bucharest is more cleaner and safer than Paris.

1. We usually translate gogoși as donuts, even though they didn't seem like. 2. The catacombs that you've seen, covered with glass are the remains of an old inn. They demolished it in 19th century to replace it with the building of the Central Bank 3. at 25:40 you entered the Russian Church :) 4. at 26:13 in the order you mentioned: The Central Bank building (Banca Națională a României), the former HQ building of the Chamber for Commerce and Industry (yes, it does look bad, but they will start restoration works on it soon), the Adriatica building. Most blocks in the downtown are not soviet, rather they were built in the interwar period (you'll recognize them by the wilder shapes they have and the bigger size of the apartments - like the one you stayed in). They are a significantly duller indeed, but the communist blocks are more square-y/rectangular and boxy. Glad you liked it, though. Hope you'll come again soon! ^_^
Those elevators man. They scare me. Also it amuses me to hear americans talking about safety in Romania. Bucharest is one of the safest cities in Europe. I mean you could go around in the dark of the night and nobody will bother you, unlike in the US capital or other big cities. The only unsafe thing about Bucharest is the driving. We Romanians get possessed by the devil when we get in the driver's seat.
Late to the party, but yeah. Generally, Romanian cities are much cleaner than Paris / Rome / Naples and other western cities. Traffic, while still chaotic, is better than in Italy. And this might be a shock to a lot of people (as it was to me), people are generally more civilized here when it comes to common sense (like letting people who are in the metro get out before you trying to get in) vs Italy
Hi! I am a Romanian living in Nashville, Tennessee. I really appreciate your comments about the city of my childhood. Your pronunciation of the word "gogosi" is very good. Thanks a lot!
Rilou-rilou Crocodilu'... When you left Romania? Is the # 1969 your dob? I left Romania in 1979 and it appear people are happier than during my time there. Street like Lipscani or former "6 Martie" were busy because of many cinemma theaters... any way is a lovely city.
Hello, guys! Romanian here! 26:10 70' soviet aliens building is actually "The Tehnoimport" tower block who was built in the first half of the 20th century, in 1935 by the architects Harry Stern, Rudolf Frenkel, Marcel Locar. From a volumetric point of view, the cylindrical tower, the vertical accent of the corner construction, which generates a dynamic architecture, can be observed. Architectural style: modernism. The block is part of a modernization and rehabilitation plan.
Romania is actually the hidden gem of EU... we do have it all, it is the place where we still have grandparents with outhouse in the back of the yard, but watching RU-vid one of the fastest internet in the world, it is the country where the old gets mixed up with the new... there are a lot of things to say about Romania, but the best way to sum it up is: "Romania, it`s not what you think man!"
I think that's the best way to say it. It goes under the radar for a lot of people. I think most still think of it as something post Soviet collapse. We really loved our visit, some of the friendliest people in Europe.
Vodafone in ROmania is not the same as Vodafone in GErmany 🙄🙄 Aprt from that ... Bucharest is an *architectural cacophony* city whose communist buildings DESERVE to be demolished and rebuilt. BTW ... the WHOLE country should follow.
@@renatosureal1. What the fuck does Vodafone has to do with anything? 2. Let me guess, you are either a romanian that left (in that case I really do hope you won't come back) or you are someone who came to see the ugly part. So where are you from?
@@vernonandmaryanapost Soviet colaps? There have been three decades, also Romania was not Soviet, just in the sfere of influence 'cause the US said not to fight them as they were in alliance... The elevator is not broken, it has a pressure plate to activate it (safety feature for small kids). As proof that it was a good idea, my friends toddler did get yeeted by a newer elevator without pressure plate :D
Wow, just wow. You definitely have a very detailed view of Bucharest. You paid a lot of attention to the buildings and all the things around you.I love to see how foreigners see our country. It feels as if I was visiting the places with them .
@@vernonandmaryanaI guess you’re easily impressed. That city is awful, dirty, old buildings are left in ruins, it smells like piss everywhere. When I went to Bucharest as a romanian, my feet stuck to the pavement from the filth, Even the air was sticky!
@ai-no3ib Why the hell u are so negative person? Just because u visited only one time and u was in that area sector 1??🤷♀️ I'm from Bucharest and definitely is not true. I travel as well and trust me ,our country it's very clean in compare for example with few countries. And obvious what did I see in the video ,I saw churches so many in this video and the second one ..too many Basically they were focused just to visit churches. Are also another things intersting to visit in Bucharest, we have also beautiful parks for example.Quite disappointed. But also I'm agreed with many things also about graffiti.
This day we ended up walking 18k steps, just in the old city area alone. We already can't wait to visit again and see more of the country side and meet the people there. If this city wasn't on your radar, it definitely should be added.
I m sure they compete with no problems with the French wines...no joke. Should try the Moldavian Wines also, are very good. I would say top 5 in the world quality like
Traffic laws and rules of the road are very stringent in Romania. Driving school is a serious process which takes around 3 months before you can take the road test with an actual police officer. Nothing at all like south-east Asia. Maybe you had that impression in Bucharest because taxi drivers in general break traffic laws just to "hack" traffic, but mostly in the rest of the country people follow the rules of the road.
Sorry they are not taking it seriously. Driving around with max 20 km per hour in driving lessons. While the rest of traffic is driving 50/60/70. They may learn to drive according to some rules, but they totally missed the traffic insight. I wondered often about this way of lessons and exams. (My wife is from Bucharest and we live now in Western Europe). The first thing I did when she was here was to send her to driving school. 😊 But that's my opinion about the driving lessons.
@@aro8570 very late to comment, but I think your wife just had an odd instructor :)) mine kept suggesting I hit the pedal more often and I drove with 60 at one point with him, before taking my exam.
@@The_Catnip super late to comment to this :)) But yes, in Romania, for the driver's license you first take a multiple choice test, in the police station, with cameras on you. After passing that, you have the practical exam in the car with a policeman. I guess it must lower the accidents caused by unfit drivers, but somehow I think we still have the highest rate of accidents in the EU. Poor road infrastructure, drunk driving, generally being impatient... I think the biggest problem is the lack of consequences when you're not caught, like speed cameras - there are like none here :)) whereas in the UK there's a camera every 20 meters :)))
The building at 26:15 definitely isn't a "communist" building. It's a modernist building built in the 1930s. Bucharest is probably one of the cities with the largest amount of art deco and modernist buildings in Europe and you will find them anywhere around the city. They may look like soviet blocks to the ones that do not know any architecture at all mostly because they have decaying facades and are not taken care of but art deco and modernist definitely hasn't got anything to do with brutalist architecture.
The building at 26:10 is art Deco, and possibly many things that you considered communist were, in fact, art Deco, a french style developed in the 1930 where the main focus was utility, instead of visuals.
14:05 I have no idea how you ended up walking on the tram line, you had to walk on the right side where those people were walking, probably everyone who saw you was wondering what were you doing there:)) Have fun in Romania!

Hello I’m Romanian living in Fort Walton beach Florida! Thanks so much for this video ❤I hope you guys had a great time and enjoyed my beautiful country ❤
I've lived in Bucharest my entire life and Caru' cu bere has been slacking in the food department ever since it became really big with tourists and such(not that it wasn't a popular spot before but I mean ever since tourism has picked up a bit more in Bucharest) so don't feel bad about not liking it much, the building is beautiful and all but the food isn't spectacular and I think the other similar place nearby, Hanu' lui Manuc, is better(they do have great papanasi for example) though even that one isn't the best you can find. Other than that, I hope you did get out of the old town area more, there's some nicer neighborhoods with old streets all around Victoriei avenue and in the area between Victoriei Square and Herastrau(Regele Mihai now) park, for example, or Cotroceni neighborhood. Old town was pretty much left in ruin by the communists and used to be a total mess til maybe 10-12 years ago or so. Oh and if you happen to go to the mountains to see the castles, there's a lot of beautiful places just outside the main touristy areas, like the mountain villages just a few km from Bran(Pestera, Magura) that are very picturesque, more so on a nice autumn day, there's the Transylvanian villages, if you have a car, and so on
We went to a few other lesser known places in Bucharest and the food was 10/10. The building was nice, worth the visit but like you said, the food was so so. We only had 3 day to visit, so we will becoming back in the spring to see the mountains and more of the rural areas. Romania has soooooo much to see and explore. Plus the people are some of the kindest in Europe.
You missed the home-made grape juice thinking it's wine at 10:10. It's not alcoholic and very tasty. It's usually a drink for children around the time wine is made.
If this was filmed saturday, then, yes, it was a day for weddings. Usualy, the weddings are planned in week-end, when people can attend them without taking a free day from work.
after traveling all over the world I can definitely say Bucharest is much cleaner and safer than many other big cities and people are much nicer and kinder.❤
You could have taken almost any public transport and you would've gotten there faster and way cheaper. Rush hours are a headache and everyone is rushing all the time in big cities.
At 10:31 ... Romania is the 6th country in wine production in Europe (after France, Italy, Spain, Germany, and Portugal), making it the leading producer in Eastern Europe.
23:35 Those places are for honoring the dead and good luck for the living. You can light a candle and place it in honor of someone who has died (Morti-"the dead") or you can light a candle for the luck of a person who is living (Vii-"the living"). People light candles for their families (for family members who have died and those who are alive) Almost every Orthodox church has such a place.
@@vernonandmaryana Now, imagine living in a country that proclaims to be 99% religious, 80% or so being Christian Ortodox from a family that isn't religious at all, but respects people's traditions. I was waiting for someone with My mother outside a church. She wanted to light a candle for her dead, cause, when in Rome... Now, the previous comment told you that VII means LIVING and MORȚI means DEAD. Mom was confused as to where and asked a lady if SEVEN is free to light a candle. That woman was lighting struck. She articulated very loud: "Living! It's the living, lady, not seven!" :) Come back soon, enjoyed your video!

About eating in Bucharest, there are a lot of restaurants. But do not take those high ratted one's like Carul and Hanul. The food is not that special and atmosphere often to crowded. Just search a bit just outside the center, and you find good or maybe better restaurants with better prices. And the public transport in B is not bad and cheap. Even Taxi is affordable. In general I feel safe in B. I've been visiting the town for over 20 year's and never happened something. Except a little scratch on the car in parking.

Great video. I felt like you back in 2017 on my first visit to the country. And I was so surprised at how safe it was and still is. We try to visit every year because its become our home away from home. You really should visit transylvania! Its just breathtaking. oh and the food... we found that nearly everywhere has the most delicious food. Love Mici and Sarmale! Papanasi is the best dessert ever! Oh and you need to visit the bakery called LUCA!
26:10 - To the naked eye it might appear soviet-style. However, that round tower was originally called the Adriatica Tower, renamed Technoimport Tower during communism. It dates from 1935, a full 10 years before the soviet-backed Communist Party took power. Its architects were Harry Stern, Rudolf Frenkel, Marcel Locar (again, no soviet presence here). It is a fine example of modernist architecture (late Art Deco). Unfortunately it is a Class A seismic risk building, meaning it might fall at the first serious quake. Yes, along with the people in it.
I spent a fair amount of time in Bucharest. The only time I got pick-pocketed was on a tramvai like at 11:00 at night. I think as long as you don’t go hang out later in the night (like anywhere else in the world), you should be fine.
You guys are so sweet and so brave! I also love that you went to verry romanian places that are really not for tourists. PIATA OBOR is really not for tourists. It is the place where all the artisans people go to buy the materials for their passions. or bisnesses. or whatever. it is also the place where you can have the best MICI in bucharest. We romanians are also verrry ortodox christians. From there all of the churches. And from there, You Have to be verry respectfull with our belives.
Regarding security, It's usual that people that live on the country side to feel a bit unsafety when they travel to Bucharest. I recommend you to travel to Brasov or Timisoara, or maybe the country side(Sighisoara, Viscri, Maramures, Bucovina). Good luck

Sorry to intrude, but not all those old buildings are communist. Some of these old buildings were built at the beginning of the 20th century, or during the first world war, but also between the two world wars and the second world war. Some of the old buildings have been renovated, others will be in the future. There are so many historical buildings in Bucharest. Unfortunately you saw so few.
We saw mainly a lot of the more beautiful one. The old modern blocks just stand out so much more. They’re massive and tower over the more beautiful architecture. We’ll be back to see more.

"The highly praised tree bears no fruit." (referring to the restaurant where the meal was just OK). And speaking of our pickpockets, they are in England and France.
Just so you know, that's not vodka, it's liquor made of different fruits. Plum is for guys, the sweeter ones like blackberry and sour cherry are for the ladies. These type of drinks are appetizers and you have them before your meal.
The round block of flats is not a communist building 26:09. It's from the '20s or 30s and it's called: "blocul Adriatica". Adriatica was an insurance company and one of the biggest investor in the bucharest real estate of that period.
At 26:31 ... Bucharest actually has four Architectural Eras: Oriental Style (Hanul Manuc), French Era (A lot of buildings), Brâncovenesc Style Era (Bucharest City Hall), Art Deco (Gara de Nord Station), and Modernist Era (The buildings on Magheru Boulevard), Communist Era (Casa Scânteii)... and a post-1990 era without a defined style, characterized by a real estate mafia that has allowed many historical buildings to be destroyed over time.
Obor Market is one of the oldest and best-known markets in Bucharest and in Romania. It is a 'Star Cinema' of places in Romania because, in the past, it also featured a fair (an amusement park with a Ferris wheel, carousels, etc.)
Guys it is a social faux pas to drink before noon. People don't drink alcohol before that time besides alcoholics and people working at night or construction workers. Also Romanians would never have mici for breakfast and beer, that is more lunch/ dinner. Traditionally 30-40 years ago people would go to beer gardens after work and have mici and beer. We don't eat them often at home more in beer gardens/street food places.
12:00 "must" isn't home made wine, it's fresh grape juice (not fermented, just refrigerated), offered in wine stores as an alternative for kids and people who don't want to drink alcohol. And you're right about "Carul cu bere" (lit. The beer cart), it's more of a tourist trap than a genuine traditional restaurant.
You did not told the apartments price how you promised at the beginning……..Rest of the video was fine. I would like to have seen the food of middle-quality at the end. And you are right. In Romania, i‘m feeling safe everytime
The apartment for city center, was $64 a night a believe, for a capital city this was a great price. There’s one more video we did about Romania up, we will be coming back this spring to see more of the countryside 😄
At 23:40 - there we light candles for our dead or for our living, there are separate areas. For example if I want to pray for well upon you, I will light a candle in the living (Vii) area for you. If I were to pray for the soul of one of my ancestors, I would light a candle in the dead (Morti) area for them.
😅 You booked an apartment near the old town so of course the buildings near old town look reminiscent era. The bucharest is bigger and i think those buildings you can only see mostly in old town area. Many areas are beautiful and interesting. I have to mention is very little crime rate in romania and people are very friendly, especially with the tourists. Everyone is making tourists experience nicer i think. I like that more tourists discover romania. Im from romania and not even me went to other cities from romania except Bucharest 😅😂 i dont even know what treasures we have. But yes, Romania is very nice and beautiful in my oppinion, depending on everyone's view. very cool video ❤
Obor is the biggest marketplace in Bucharest, where you can find all sorts of merchandise, legal or otherwise. That kid was probably selling smuggled cigarettes which are much cheaper because no stamp tax is paid on them. On the street, you can also find some shady characters offering phones of dubious provenance, most likely stolen. If you take the time to enter the nearby Bucur Obor shopping gallery, you will be amazed by the variety of goods on sale there, including a lot of gold jewelry. In the end, the whole place is very safe, you can walk there day or night with no worry.
Bucharest was called the Little Paris the period between world wars (French architects and engineers were brought in to build the city) then the communists took over, destroyed what was nice and replaced everything with concrete blocks...
How do you two keep from getting lost? And is this a city safe and friendly to single old women. Thanks, great video, just discovered your channel, subscribed
