We discovered an ancient hideout in a cave above a cliff. Climbing into the cave proved to be a challenge but once we made it up in there, what we found surprised us! Come along on this episode as we ride into the mountains in search of history and adventure.

lol I need to do more running! I was winded climbing up there 😂 And we have a Sony A7IV for our good camera and we use DJI Osmo Action Fours (like a GoPro) when we don’t have the big camera 😊

Im from UK, but I seen mountain lions leap 18 feet over a man and up a cliff. It looked 8+ feet stretched out in full leap! They'd happily drag part of a deer up there for a good lunch. P.S climb down on your belly, not your back (I rock climb).

How lucky you guys have each other to go explore stuff together. So cool. My hub doesn't ride ......yet. haa. He loves mules but he's not quite convinced that riding is fun. He likes exploring caves though. Probably more than I do. Ha.

Wow! Best video yet! A truly hair raising adventure, with spectacular scenery too. Nobody else has given us this. Thank you! Earlier, and at24:00+24:25 you showed a pile of fire making material called kindling that was obviously collected by a person, as no trees are grow inside there. You should notify the nearest university. They may want to investigate, to see if it's worth doing an archeological dig. They might also have historical info on it. Big thanks to your dad for sparking your interest in this, and telling you about it. Love to you all! ❤

@@MTN_BUILT I'm not sure of the time stamp, but when you were inside and showing us the smoke on the wall the same pile of kindling was clearly visible, although at that point you didn't talk about it. Later on (unsure of the time) you did though. You said that it looked like someone had prepared a fire but never lit it. You were right. But a smart person would not burn all of their kindling at once, after hauling it up there. It's a valuable resource. They would only use some as a firestarter, and then add gradually bigger branches, and then a log or 2. I really think you should make a phone call to the university and let them know about this historical cave! I love you both and what you are doing so much! It's my dream! But a small woman alone without money can't make it happen. I'm too old now, so I live through you and Alyssa. I wish you and your families and animals so much happiness! And thank you so much for sharing your time with us. You have sparked a deep interest in mules too. Love from Barb in Alberta. ❤🐴🐎🐴❤

@@MTN_BUILT I'm not an expert either. Lol! But is most definately a human created pile. Brought there and piled up by people, not nature. Maybe they were the ones who brought animal parts in too. Maybe a starving person who brought a few found peices of meat. I wonder why the skeletons were so incomplete?

@@MTN_BUILT PS. I watch a LOT of archaeology, and I think that when bones are broken in that way it's to access the marrow. Did you bring any bones back? If you did, look very closely at them with a magnifying glass, and see if you can identify any cut marks on them (called striations). They may be very faint and few, but if they are there you should still be able to recognize the repetitive nature of them, and the fact that that a metal knife (or even a rock tool) made them. Cut marks would definately prove humans had cut them, but if they are absent, it doesn't necessarily prove anything. Use a magnifying glass to look at your own bones from a steak, pork chops or chicken, and you'll see the type of marks. I also wonder why there is that much smoke, but yet so few bones. Sorry to be such a pest. I'll stop now. It's just that this video was SO VERY captivating! You should really be sure to make the title as descriptive as possible, and add words to the thumbnail that are just a tad clickbaity, because this video is FANTASTIC, and it could blow up, and bring in MANY new viewers! @@MTN_BUILTdefinitely smoke . Mountain Lions honestly have no trouble getting up into the cave with a deer carcass in mouth Get you a rope ladder 2)-50 feet long. Light weight and easily packed on mules.

I did some splunicking in Virginia we have to go underwater to enter and when you got in there was a stream that went through the mountain and we discovered a small lake that was crystal clear but it's dangerous so always be careful let someone know you're there and always have supplies with you of course there weren't any cell phones back then loved your video looked like fun thanks kray

@@MTN_BUILT Kray is so right! Please, in future don't climb back up unless you at least have 1 more person with you, and you have stuff like a proper first aid kit, food, a blanket or some warm jackets, etc, in case you do get injured and have to be left, while the other person goes for help.

That’s a good question! It may help with flies in horses, but mule manes are short and only about half flopped over, so they don’t do much in the way of protecting the mule from anything, they look disheveled and unkept without trimming their manes. But I totally agree about horses manes- they look pretty when they’re nice and long 😊

@@cattymajiv yeah silly! But we had never been and had no idea we would have to climb up a rock. We never like to pack more weight on the mules than needed, so we usually don’t throw in extra stuff other than emergency kit/gear. We ride in our hiking boots when we know we will be hiking, but this time we didn’t think we would be. It wasn’t a big deal to just go back. 😊

Chicken bones are hollow. We would burn all our left overs to keep animals away at night. Looks like someone went to the back into a dip to burn. That keeps the wind off the fire but it also helps not make a fire obvious unless your extremely close. Its pretty cool!

That’s a great question! We usually give them a break when we can feel them start to labor and slow down going up hill… we could easily push them harder, but we tend to take it easy on them… we’re almost never in a hurry 😊 And they can go all day without water, but if there’s any water around, we give them a chance to drink 😊

Common rule is get ride of scrapes from bigger hungry animals so in a cave when you are done to avoid opening up the smell on the outside. So it looks like a Chicken leg bone and burn the rest or it could have been no wood situation and burn bone and anything already there

@@MTN_BUILT I hunt lost gold and help people find ground for mining you should consider getting a good metal detector and go back up there the only reason people share the location is just maybe there something there waiting for you to find. My dad told me when he dies that I will need to find his money that is hidden the only clue I have is I have been there with him around 20 years ago but that hunt has not begun yet.

Pack rats may have brought the bones up there from the surrounding area, they will commonly do that.

My wife had the same thought when I showed her the footage… I just couldn’t believe they could carry those big ones up there, but they were definitely in their nests. I feel like the burnt bone was definitely cooked by a human in the back of the cave though 😊

lol mule manes just don’t grow right! 😂 I don’t like it when they’re all the way trimmed off (like cedar’s in this video) but I think they look good with like a 2 inch mohawk 😊

@@MTN_BUILT Yeah, I agree. As much as they can grow, the more the better. If it get's in the way of a breastplate's attachment to the saddle somehow, I can see trimming that spot, though I can't see that it would. I know you've discussed that previously. And I know their manes are not as full or well behaved as those on horses, which seems to be the main reason for clipping them. You were right that shaving or cutting it short is called roaching. Just like the short remains of a "marijuana cigarette" or joint. Lol! Thanks for teaching us so much about these wonderful animals that most people know little about! I truly am stopping now, and I don't expect replies to everything I said. I was just overcome with enthusiasm for this video, and your and Alyssa's adventure in life. It's truly just wonderful! Looks like a chicken leg bone to me. Cuz, why wouldn't you pack in fried chicken then toss the bones in the fire so you can bust them open for marrow and to not draw predators.

You should have brought hiking boots ! You shouldn't be climbing that cliff alone. If you fall and get hurt you're screwed.

We should have, we ride in boots a lot if we know we will be hiking. But we hadn’t been to the cave before and didn’t know we would have to climb to get in lol. We always carry an in-reach just Incase

lol I think your spot on about the cat using that cave! And I feel like the smoke is older too… who really knows though 😊🤷🏻‍♂️ I still think it’s impressive that a cat could drag an animal up that ledge… guess it makes sense though considering African cats can pull antelope into trees 😊
