Speaking of Broadway shows... Lynn and I are going to see "Hamilton" tomorrow, just to see that all the fuss is about. We'd gotten tickets before Covid hit and repurchased them when Broadway reopened. The prices, while still on the high side, have come way down from what they once were. I'm sure it will be good, but I'll let you know.
"We Don't Need Another Hero (Thunderdome)" by Tina Turner off of the "Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack" which came out in 1985 and featured Terry Britten (who cowrote the song with Mike Graham Lyle) on bass.
What can I say, I always loved this song (and the movie) and, for some reason, get a little choked up when the child choir starts singing in the last chorus.
The video links I mentioned with the sax player whose name is Tim Capello (I time stamped them for you). He's actually still riding the "Lost Boys" wave and performing that song live! -
• Tim Capello - I Still ...
• Tina Turner - We Don't...
I recorded this video a few weeks ago, the day after I got this new/used Fodera Monarch Standard Special.

Who doesn't love a muscley greased up sax guy doing pelvic thrusts?! But seriously, he does great work on this song. And this song has a big dystopian vibe. The children's choir goes right to the emotional center. Oh, and the fodera sounds killer!

With ALL the buzz I have heard and read about "Hamilton", I'm thinking you and your Bride Miss Lynn will enjoy The Show Immensely! My oldest Son was 5 years old going on 15 when this movie and soundtrack came out! He was ALREADY a Master of Videos and music from MTV, loved pretending he was a TV game Show Host and eventually got into Radio and now is a TV News Producer for a local TV station here in Columbus! He knew all the words to this tune and literally many that played then and now! Your Fodera has a cool "Teak Wood" look to it...at least that's how I see it! And some of those notes you played were strikingly close to a Rickenbacker 4001....I was waiting for Xanadu as I enjoyed my Milk Of Paradise whilst you played! Cheers From Ohio Troy!

A roadshow version of Hamilton is coming to Houston soon, lots of local hype for it. One thing I can say about Hamilton is that it started out the small venue Hamilton Mixtape show and then grew into Broadway. Musicals have been crap since the late eighties. They say Hollywood is out of ideas, but Broadway has been deader longer. Hamilton broke that. If you wanna see a good musical I would recommend "Love, Janis". Love the bass and the tone. Of course, the player makes the tone matter. Not my favorite Tuna Turner song of that era, but you showed me a side of it I had not considered in the past. I liked Private Dancer better, but didn't know Mark Knopfler wrote it until much later.
@TJH3113
@TJH3113 2 года назад
I have to say that I thought the show lived up to, if not exceeded, the hype. There is nothing like seeing a show of that quality. We've only been going to Broadway shows for 5 or 6 years (since Lynn got me "Hedwig and The Angry Inch" tickets for my birthday), but we've seen about 12. Of those, there hasn't been a really "bad" show. I don't think anything bad makes it to Broadway. That being said, there are definitely some shows that we've preferred to others. Before seeing "Hamilton", "Hadestown" was top on our list of favorites, but I could see some parts where the latter borrowed from the former. Least favorite shows were "Book of Mormon" and "Mean Girls". Even "American Psycho - The Musical" had some redeeming qualities😂. Hopefully, the Janis show will make a return at some point. Thanks, the bass is nice, but I don't think there's any reason to have this much money tied up in one instrument. I've got $400 basses that I'd find just as satisfying to play. A lot of big names showed up on the "Private Dancer" album.

Thank you Garyd. It's a beautifully crafted bass, but, now that I have one, it confirms what I've always believed. @@TJH3113 everyone is seemingly more energetic now with things opening and I feel a sense of people not taking things like concerts or live performance for granted. That was very apparent in the Primus concert I saw in Los Angeles a few weeks ago. LA has been acting so crazy with Corona this and COVID that much like NY but primus came in and that was the first thing Les said to the crowd was gratitude for being able to play some music and share the creative energy with the masses. Also they played A farewell to kings in tribute to Rush and pretty much nailed it. I was so lucky to catch that show. Especially with the passion for playing that had those guys so amped plus doing the rush set I could tell that was absolutely special. They did Cinderella man and it was beautiful honestly. Primus did it justice. But anyway I know what you mean about Fodera being polite unless you push it to get some tone out of it. I bet a change in electronics would bring out something badass the bass is hiding. Mec or emg pickups would definitely change the flavor. I know I'm nuts for thinking this was on such a boutique bass but at the same time you'd be getting a bass that doesn't sound like the other Fodera basses. As always thanks for putting out the videos and you're always wonderful to talk to.
