What he ignored when he was young that with the passage of time, options dwindle. Death is inevitable. All is transient. What we can have is family and moments of joy with them. Contentment is built on investment in relationships. The currency is not money but time and seeing people and accepting them as they are.

Moved to Australia to join my extended family who migrated there from Malaysia. So, I have lived an interesting life. Regrets? Of course! Reflective joy? YES! Looking forward to my 3rd Act with a new lady in the Philippines. If you know Filipino culture, you immediately gain a new family. At times when many were younger i see the cherrie picking behavior for partners too insensitive and not allowing to put yr life together with a imperfections partner as a criteria for selection ,are these way consider as a arrogant habit that will sparrow into a lost hope when you seriously want it ....but gone are the time when these opportunities are no longer available. There are no same side to a coin. But also a reminder to many younger generation there are no perfect person or a perfect partner. Do not let the arrogant of ourselves becomes regret of thoughts.

This video is a perspective. It supports a notion that can be true, and it goes against another notion that can also be true. It highlights the evidence of that a life, is a whole of which a big part is what you are able to create, in and outside of yourself. At 34 years, saw that "killing time sentiment" when 1 chapter ends, and you lack knowledge of what the next chapter entails. you create, as opposed later in life to when you were younger when all the next chapters were "procedural" or created for you. created in a sense that one goes to the 1st grade, and when they pass or finish with the first grade, the 2nd grade is there waiting for you to start getting involved in it, with all its curriculum. arts and culture, mathematices etc. when you get older, you get to a point where the next grade is not there, it is waiting for you to create it. there is no teacher or class or already created curriculum. it is your responsibility to compile your life from that point on. that seems to be the purpose of much of life, where in the beginning we all do the same or similar thing, you are taught and shown, what to learn and when. after some time, you need to actively take part in your living, learning and teaching of your own self. you choose some of what you will learn, you choose the directions you will grow and how, you collaborate with the greatest teacher of all life and time. this is not something to be despondent of, this is something to get excited about. because you know you or should, more than anyone else. you, in collaboration with time and life are the best person to determine what curriculum you need, you can personalize your life for yourself. take up the challenge.live

Buddha would say otherwise. The feeling of loneliness arises because people believe in the existence of a "self" within them, leading their minds to constantly seek entertainment. What is this guy talking about ? Billions of human being come and go since time immemorial. As such any person is only one in the billions at any time regardless who one is. So why ponder so much about life ? Life is just a passage of time. Every day, if you are able to wake up to function, that is to breathe, to eat, to walk, to feel, to have sex, to see, to talk, to work, to sleep, etc, etc as a human being, just do it and let time brings you to death by every second. And in your daily functioning, just enjoy your life and careless how other people live their life. If this guy is already 65 year old and still worrying and not understanding about the complexities of life, then I think he has been living a very meaningless life.

One side he stresses on the importance of a married life and yet he mentioned he has a partner . So how come not a wife instead ? If you have not even experience a normal marriage life, please don’t try to offer your views on ageing thru that perspective. When a person chooses to be single, you’ll just have to acknowledge the fact that the possibility to be alone and die alone is definitely inevitable. Writing and pondering on such issues only satisfies your own thoughts but it does not affect much to the majority except giving them depressing thoughts. You are filthy rich enough to hire caregivers so count your blessings and move on in life with your partner be it a straight one or otherwise.

Living in the west, it's actually somehow refreshing to hear his very pragmatic views on life. When we're young and privileged, we want to be optimistic and hopeful. "Chase your dreams. Working a 9 - 5 is boring and meaningless. Pursue your passion." But he points to very real issues a lot of people face. Living to old age does mean loneliness for many. Not starting a family can bring that loneliness and meaninglessness sooner. Sure, if people could change their mindsets and find meaning and happiness in other ways they could be happier. But the reality is people are generally social creatures and we have basic needs to be met in order to be happy.

I think most people associate with single hood when you are in your 40s or later as being picky. But it is not really the main reason for all. Also since he is still able to find a partner, he should focus on cherishing the current one and look forward. Life is a learning journey, whatever decision you make at any point in time can be a good lesson for later. He already has achieved many milestones and has been in a privileged position before. He is wrong about having kids and going back to careers because institutions are increasingly shunning older workers. Its a bigger problem than low birthrate because you cannot export older people like how you can import younger people.

He has existential crisis now and was successful before but seems to have regrets at his age now, have hobbies and interests. In Developed west many billionaires go thru same existential crisis and pour their heart out at 60-70 yo

This writer is so negative to these elders who have reached more than 70 years old and need people to make them happy infact is us to make ourselves happy and how you think to make yourself happy even though you are in a crowd if you think miserable you will be miserable even if you are surrounded by the crowd...Singapore need elder centers to provide them transportation from their house to the center for them to learn computer, painting, cooking, dancing, singing, Tai Chi exercise and any exercise for the elders to have a flexibility of the bodies as what the American are provided for their elders ...after all life will not be this mundane if they are looking forward to see their friends in the center or to improve their being ....Happiness is what you think and how you think to create happiness for yourself not others ...As Asian the concept to live with your parents is still a better choice then sending them to senior housing where most parents will prefer to live with their children where they can take of their grandchildren where a memory will be remembered by their grandchildren when they are not around ...Life is a circle , parents take care of their children when they are young and children will take care of the parents when they are unable to take care of themselves and will live peaceful from this earth knowing they have done what they done when they depart ...

The order is quite wrong. Work. Marry. Then have kids. It doesn't mean I agree with this. Nor disagree.

I have high regards for ex-Foreign Minister George Yeo. He is the best minister of PAP he cares for the people well beings. It was a great pity the narrow-minded, naive majority of people of Aljunied GRC voted for the opposition party for the sake of having an opposition party.

What does YOUR religion have to do with ANYTHING? Other religions may or may not be viable alternatives. Of course, YOUR religion is right for YOU. Christians and Moslems push their beliefs onto others and that is often not appreciated. Buddhists, Hindus, and Jews do not do that. Perhaps you should preach within the confines of YOUR church? Just a thought.......Then again, you probably enjoy making others feel GUILTY, perhaps? For something that is none of your business?

Sg is a very pragmatic place and because of our unique identity, we have to careful of pressures from around the world of the question who we really are as we mix or mingle or share our lives around together on this tiny island state.
@henrietta9206
@henrietta9206 3 месяца назад
I understand "pressure". But paying taxes to police and say "you have to work like a dog" is the same as saying you pay price to engage a maid but wash everything yourself, cook everything, maid does nothing. Think about statement "because of pressures, we are like dogs" so, why some are not dogs? Others with horrendous fraction of our gdp, have running water, clean air? Every item "paid for" comes with an item in exchange. Think about the price. And dont be sheep and just repeat "no choice, external pressure". Between cancer or no cancer the choice is always "choose no cancer" there is a choice. Just stop parroting. Open real eyes. See. Be adult. Not child.

I just checked out that this is the founder of CNA. I now know why CNA is pro-USA and Europe. I skip CNA most of the time. The founder is profit driven and has no spiritual roots even after 60 years. You cannot be happy if you do not probe your innate desires and fulfill them. In short, you do not know what you personally want, and busy over what you do not personally want. Sporeans are blessed with long life, and have access to all the best lives of the world on their fingertips, on the internet. An intelligent man can probe his innate desires with the wisdom of Chinese and European sages, finding one that resonates with you. Ten years to age 80 is a long time to study the wise experiences of the sages of China, India and Europe.

George Yeo lost to Low Thia Kiang. He walked around with bodyguards in front of him. I was surprised when i was approached by a stranger checking on me. Then I saw George Yeo walking behind. Wow, what arrogance, I thought. Before the loss of Aljunied, MPs came with lion dancers before them, heralding them.
