We drove back roads of Wisconsin. Here's what we found. We drove along the back roads of Northeastern Wisconsin, explored a couple of really small towns along Hwy 139, and discovered a few of the area's best kept secrets!

I saw the MacArthur pine in 1970 on a camping trip with my high school principal and several classmates. It was really an impressive tree. It's gone now as are 3 of those campers. We went fishing on Long Lake as well as a few other small lakes.

We always love just going out on a drive on roads we have not been on. MacArthur pine is unique!! Too bad it burned 😢! Was really tall, Wow. There are a few trees in our Sequoias in Southern California that are really huge and tall. Long Lake looks pretty big! Pow camp from WW2 could be interesting! Looks like a lot of things closed in Long Lake. Love that you take your pup pups with you! That's a very small cementary. Yep, never seen a foster home advertising with a sign. Tipler definitely a quiet town. Beechcraft plane was definitely cool. Loved this one!

Between Long Lake and Tiplar, you missed the old Purdue University Forestry Camp and Long Lake Youth Conservation Corps campus. It's a gorgeous historic summer camp on one side and campgrounds on the other side of the lake. It's all just government offices and researchers now, but well worth the stop. It's highly unusual for someone to have a sign like that for a foster home, to ensure the anonymity of the kids...but it's such a strange place everyone knows whose parents are doing meth and will need a place to live from time to time. Florence and Iron River would be good stops for you.
