GTR definitely was Wide open throttle early giving him that jump. It’s like he rolled to 20 and then WOT right before light to get to 40 and rolled through already at full go.. Would’ve been muuuch closer.

@@tortol4847 If officials wanted to eradicate sling shotting they could do it quite easily by demanding all vehicles install a standardized throttle stop setup triggered by a pickup mounted a fixed distance behind the front axle line and optically triggered by the start beam. That way there is no motivation to try sling shotting since a bigger gap would put you at a disadvantage as your opponent would get triggered for WOT before you can be.

I've never really watched rolling races before this video, but mathematically i think it could be one the fairest types. Because it doesn't matter who "starts"first or crosses the line first, who ever crosses the line the fastest wins. But i am interested in everybody's opinions.

@@76yank I think Cletus said it's whoever crosses the line first not necessarily who's the fastest. Ruby had a higher top speed than the gtr but gtr crossed the line first which is why he lost. Bracket racing is closer to what your saying.

I haven't even watched the video yet but I know what you're talking about back in the late 90s I had an ae86 (it wasn't called that then it was just a rear-wheel drive Corolla that I almost always wrecked in the rain) had circuit City install a radio that was so bright it would blind you at night it wasn't until like 3 years ago I realized that you could dim it but for years I would just put a sock over top of it at night.

The gtr should have been the equivalent of a red light. He stalled and then went full throttle way before the tree. Why didn’t anyone call him out on that? That’s how he got in front with a slower speed.

@@dozerboyd8784 I used to kill bracket races in a dead slow 1.8 sentra; it ran within .05 EVERY. SINGLE. PASS. Indeed, knowing ones game is a big part of it! I'm sick of other comments that the GTR stomped it pre-tree. He also hit the brakes to correct his speed; he just knew a trick for his pony!

I would complain when the GTR is going way more than 40 when the green light hits and hes already spooled. There are some fast GTRs out there that in a fair race would obliterate ruby. That blue GTR isnt one of them.

He said in the last video that he was putting the cooling fans and pump back on the Holley controller. They just ran out of time to do it I think. They just rewired the whole car Wed I think, so its still a little hacked together.

@@2pi628 As much as I *love* Arduino's and other microcontrollers, the Holley ECU should happily manage both the pump and the radiator fan based on coolant temperature, whilst still having an input from the button panel to override and enable the radiator fan for post-race cool down :) (All this said, I'm a Link ECU kinda guy but if the Holley works then all is well)

@@jasongaunt Yeah, and even if you wanted a specific "race setup" instead of dependent on temp etc you can have a "prep for race" button that does all the correct stuff in sequence.

@@ZboeC5 if ALL wiring was truly replaced, I would begin to think the fuel management is sus. My only wonder: does it write to an SD card or have internal EEPROMS (or other memory circuit)? If it's a memory card, I would start there [perhaps the file structure format is wrong, or a bad read/write head]

Well done Cleetus and Ruby. BTW the buttons and backlighting of the keypad you're using can be controlled by the ECU. Change the colour and brightness whenever your headlights are switched on

How do you judge an even start in roll racing? That GTR in the final was clearly into the throttle early. Or maybe he timed it just right, laying back and then hitting the tree with momentum. But who decides?

Sounded like Ruby had a bad hesitation based on the sound but Cleetus didn’t mention it. In regard to the start, I think if the light is green it’s a go.

Not sure what the specific rules are at this event, but most roll racing I've seen they don't care much when you really go. In theory you're supposed to be at 40mph then go when the light turns green, but I don't think they run the lights in a way that would give a red light if someone jumps. See a lot of races where one car is going faster and takes off earlier than the other one. Plus they seem to sometimes go more by whatever the top speed is over who gets to the finish first so I guess that can negate someone jumping a little. \ At the end of the day roll racing is just a dumb show-off event for people that can't launch their cars.
