A safe like that in a kitchen in those days may have been for tea ? It was quite valuable, and other food stuffs may have been kept in there. A place that size would need a lot of tea.

Apparently this was sold for 3.2m in 2017...i know from working (not living, unfortunately) around here tho that lots of properties are snapped up by wealthy foreign owners who buy it then just leave them to rot... Quite a few pubs have been left in the same situation

If you put a small hole in the top of the safe, and fill it with water, you could put a Cherry Bomb firecracker inside and blow the door right off of it. I have seen it done. The door would fly 20-40 feet away. The door almost killed the man who did it. He was lucky he stood behind a big tree, the door hit the tree and bounced off of the tree trunk. Scared us all half to death!
