We explored Japan’s most mysterious island. Sado Island, located in Niigata prefecture on the north coast of Japan has a long and interesting history. Sado, Japan is a place we had been looking forward to visit for a long time since many people had recommended us to visit and it did not disappoint!
In the van life Japan video, we catch the Sado Island ferry from Niigata city and set off to explore Sado, Japan. We learn about the history of the Sado gold mine, explore the historical Shukunegi Village and also pay a visit to the world famous Sado Island Taiko Center (Tatakokan).
Travelling Japan by van and being full time van lifers in Japan is an incredible way to overland Japan and get off the beaten path. We have managed to visit so many amazing places during the 16 months of our slow travel camper van trip in Japan. Converting a DIY camper van in Japan has been one of the best decisions we have ever made and car camping in Japan is so easy due to the huge amount of Japanese roadside stations, free campsites and onsen throughout the country. We can’t recommend van life in Japan enough!
Follow along on our Japanese van life adventure as we explore and share the best things to do in Niigata, Japan!
