Haven't seen Madame Webb, and I'm just annoyed because they got Adam Scott to get Uncle Ben and it was for this movie? How does Sony keep getting good actors for these movies?
I hope the people who treated the Marvels unfairly realize how good of a female led cast we had in that movie and how it came together in comparison to the poorly engineered Madame Webb cast and storyline.
I love the idea of the 60s setting, I think it can set Reed’s intellect ahead of his time which is harder in a modern world with nano-particles. Also it may explain the TVA’s retro look, with Kang (a descendent of Reed) taking inspiration from his technology
I’ve always thought it would be a good idea to explain where the X-men and FF have been in the MCU and its that maybe there was some kind of No More Mutants event or some kind of FF adventure that erases them from the timeline or banished them to not be allowed in the same timeline as the main MCU
My only concern is if this movie is indeed set in the 60s, then how does this time period/setting and eventual time jump affect characters like Alicia Masters (Thing's girlfriend) and especially how they will handle Doctor Doom in the MCU since he's been done dirty in live action every time. He is Marvel's greatest villain for a good reason, so I really hope if Doom was around during the '60s, then will they still adapt the character's epic back-story from the ' Doctor Doom: Book of Doom' comic, or will they do something new that could possibly hinder Doom's potential to become one of the greatest cinematic villains.
@@milkiassamuel780yep I was wondering this too, if the FF come from the past or a different universe set in the past, will Doom come with them or is Doom only from the present losing his past connection to Reed
@@milkiassamuel780some people are speculating that the other universe they come from isn’t set in the 60s but rather a universe that has a retro 60s aesthetic
I watched Pedro Pascal play a "nerd"-like (he came off as a lost puppy happy to make friends with the main character, but also had to play villain when turned into a vampire) character on _Buffy the Vampire Slayer_ on his guest starring on TV Shows days, before anyone knew who he was. So his range is bigger than people realize.
I trust his range, I'm just tired of seeing him in everything? Kinda wish we had an unknown face who wouldn't have so much baggage attached from past experiences :(
The actor who played Reed Richards in the Tim Story F4 Ioan Gruffudd should be the starting template on how Pedro should play him I think Ioan did a spot on Reed Richards especially his his "I gotta work to heal and cure my best friend" motive at the expense of all of his relationships That's what his biggest conflict is in the comics
I love the promo image. It's not often when it feels like an MCU project has such a firm aesthetic direction out the gate. It isn't everything, but it says thought has definitely been put into this IMO.
Dude is 48 and he finally got his break just a few years ago after acting for many years for scraps. He did 1 espisode appeareance for random shows and the odd shitty movie side character. He's finally getting money and recognition, he doesn't get to take a break. This is his lifetime chance, he won't be getting new big action roles like these in his late 50s, specially if he decides to take a break now. He can't let this pass him by. No one with a brain would.
I can see this being set in another universe, one that kinda looks like the animated Archer universe, where it's not a period piece, it's set in more modern times, but the tech is a little more sixties style. I think a lot of upcoming projects could be set in different universes, because then after Secret Wars they all just kind of mash together and more or less "reset" things, so it isn't like these guys are leaving everyone they knew behind, but they are just kinda all integrated into one universe, where they don't really have much choice in the matter.
I think it makes a lot of sense to keep F4 and X-Men in their own universes so that they don't have to explain how nobody in the regular MCU universe knows about them or has mentioned them before. They can bring everyone into the same universe in later movies.
@@Nodiee1I just don’t understand what would be so hard about having F4 on SABER working with Fury when they got their powers which is why nobody has heard of them. Especially now with the current state of Avengers in 61 they would become instant celebrities.
I first became aware of Ebon Moss-Bachrach in 'NOS4A2', where he was a troubled, undependable, but also loving working-class father of the central character. I've loved him ever since. I'm with you on this as good casting, and I'm also grateful to have a Jewish actor playing the role.
Completely agree r.e Wandavision. More than any of the others it had the best fleshed out story and felt like a story they wanted to tell and then created the format around it. A lot of the shows feel like they have a certain number of slots to fill and have chosen the characters and story from there.
That rendition of the FF gives me great relief that Shackman has the perfect vision of the team. I this the characters are finally in good hands. That picture is near perfect for a fun and great film. :-)
I think that they cast the ages with intention. I think Reed and Sue will already have been married for like 8 years and the age gap will be addressed and part of the character arc. The Disk Horse on X The Everything App™️ will be utterly insufferable, but it can work as a story point.
I'm on board but I was really getting excited by the possibility of seeing Matt Smith as Mr. Fantastic, Which I still think would have been awesome! Ah well, maybe in a parallel timeline...😅
What I find weird about Nando's fan casting is he assumed actors can only play the same character they played in a previous work. "Reed Richards is a nerd WJ Harper played a nerd in a TV show, he should play Reed!" If Nando made movies an actor would never play a new type of role in their careers and would be eternally type cast.
To be fair to cinemasins, the video you're referring to came out before it was announced that Captain America 3 was Civil War, and DEFINITELY before Spider-Man was announced
Honestly, I think both Superman, Legacy and Fantastic 4 should be period pieces because both are incredibly stylistic, especially in the 50s and 60s era of comics… plus, give me a superhero movie that’s not dark and depressing
I think this was somewhat of a suit reveal, all of them are very reminiscent of space suits, with clear inspirations from astronaut gear, both casual and more space suity stuff
The funny thing about the age gap issue is that an actress that's closer in age (6 years) with superhero movie experience who is available is Jessica Alba. 😆
@@theojenner1902 The plot I'd want is Giancarlo as Sinister PRETENDING to be Xavier, and Xavier is strapped to a psychic machine that is hiding mutants from the world using Xavier as an amplifier. Save the reveal for a post credits scene so we get Giancarlo as the Professor. He turns the students into terrorists and then they have to fight the Avengers in the next movie.
A pulpy 1960’s Retro-Future Fantastic 4 is a dream come true. Think Disneyland Tomorrowland, The Incredibles, Journey to The Center of the Earth, 2000 Leagues Under the Seas. Like I can easily see these guys in a Defunctland Video
As the Gen X rep here who would've been 5 in 1978, we would've never set our bodies on fire to mimic Johnny. One arm maybe. Lighter fluid and matches were well within our reach back then.
I feel like I am the only one who thinks that the suits in the fantastic four art will not be the final suit in the movie. I think it's just a fun thing for the art
As cynical a take as this may be, audiences are more willing to let attractive actors play different ages. Pedro is a stud, people will tend to be fine with him playing younger. (studios know this tooz so I'm assuming Reed will be younger than the actor portraying him)
I guess I’m on lonely island, but I don’t see it for Pedro Pascal in the attraction department like how everyone else does. like everyone calling him daddy and making him seem like he’s this friggin 10 out of 10 knockout to me is so confusing because he’s so weird looking in the face, especially without facial hair
I think the pedro casting is because they still need a recognisable leading man to sell the film to a general audience. Also helps he is super good looking and charming if no one had seen his work.
On what you said about them looking at fan casts: Teyonah Pariss said her fans had been fan casting her as Monica Rambeau for some time, but it might just've been that both her fans and the casting people individually thought she was a good fit or it was a coincidence.
It's not sad, because they aren't traveling to our universe, they're merging with it. This all builds up to Secret Wars. The F4 and X-Men will be integrated into the soft-rebooted MCU.
Johnny in his original appearance was literally a teenager. So considering Joseph Quinn's role on Stranger Things, I definitely think he can pull of a young, hotshot Johnny. It also gives me further hope for a Peter-Johnny dynamic going forward, but that might be wishful thinking on my part.
I don't this movie will feature the F4 coming to the MCUniverse, I think it'll maybe more likely be a time travel story, or feature time travel in some way. My best guess is that they're from the 60's, and the accident that results in them gaining their powers also has the side effect of sending them further in time, and that 2/5 of the way through the movie we'll see scenes of them exploring their future/our present world and having different reactions to it. Maybe Ben feels like he's now a monster, but finds some comfort when he sees kids playing with Hulk toys, and watches unusual looking characters being heroes on TV screens. Sue's happy with how far feminism has come, and that women are now taken much more seriously in her field of study. Johnny's super into all the new extreme sports and social media, he doesn't wanna go back home because he fuckin' loves all of this. Then Reed's like, idk, kinda disappointed because he thought we'd have advanced way further than we did. Idk, I just think the F4 would be more interesting as a family out of time than a family from another universe.
The only one I’m not 100% sold on is Pedro as reed. But marvel wasn’t too sold on RDJ and look what happened with that so I’ll wait and see before I say anything negative because Pedro could knock it out the park. Definitely could’ve heard him voicing the thing
This is not really a cast I would've picked (maybe Vanessa Kirby), but it's not one I hate in the least...I do like it, I just would've gone a different direction on a few of these characters (especially Reed & Johnny), sad they didn't go more out-of-the-box and cast John Cho as Reed, played around like that. Solid choices, more interested to learn more about the tone and story. Sad they've missed out on getting released this year (April 4th would've been a great release date, for the synergy), but I'm looking forward to it coming next year. Better they take the time and hopefully get it right rather than rush and blow it.
oh i've watched the bobvids videos about cinemasins enough times to recognize that that batman v superman/civil war rant you're mentioning here is from the cinemasins guy. i think it was posted to his second channel or something
I wish Marvel established in some way what's the deal with Netflix actors getting different roles. Sure Cottonmouth ain't coming back but Micro could. Would they recast him? Frank is definitely coming back
In the very early Spider-Man comics, Johnny Storm visits Peter's school and it's said he's a teenager so I'm guessing 18, and Peter was 15 so that 3-year age gap is perfect. Like you said though, MCU Peter is still only 18 LOL
Given the way superhero movies are going at the moment, it'd be insane to deliberately put two superhero films up against each other. These movies feed off each other. Maybe that was the point. Marvel/Disney are confident Superman will be good and want to exploit the positive buzz while it's fresh. Superhero films are extremely frontloaded so unless they're coming out the same day, I guess a fortnight between them might actually be a big spacing.
I know anything can happen in this movie (time travel related things) but Johnny storm and Peter Parker being “the same age” is irrelevant when the movies set 60 years in the past right?
man pedro gonna look like some old ass uncle if they don't play this correctly he looks so old compared to vanessa and the jonny casting, and if they go cgi with the thing instead of live action it better be better than the hulk
Desperately hope that art is what we're getting in terms of look and vibe and isn't just a fun cheeky casting announcement that is not actually indicative of the movie itself. I LOVE the costumes and the 60s setting. Really sets it apart from the rest of the MCU house style and tone. I'm getting tired of the "Marvel lines" on every outfit.
The thing that gives Pedro Pascal so much promise is his performance in the Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. He's got SO much range. EDIT: I want to correct myself. His greatest show of range is as protective latina mom on SNL. You can't argue with that display of variety.
No no no! A random dude that plays nerd in a sitcom is SOOO much better, because he plays a nerd and Reed Richards is a nerd! Seriously, that's all you need.
I'm so happy a Jewish actor is playing Ben Grimm That's literally a huge part of Ben's character Plus he's based on Jack Kirby the famous marvel illustrator and head writer during early marvel eras who was Jewish and a Air force pilot
@@Chuck_EL Not to mention Vanessa Kirby shares The same last name as Jack Kirby himself which such a cool coincidence and though they aren't related, I have a feeling Jack would be super proud of these picks
Aside from good writing, Im really hoping they give plenty of time to the cgi artists to make this look great. I want Thanos level cgi for the thing and Johnny storm
Going off of WandaVision, it, Shang Chi, and Werewolf By Night I feel were to projects that captured what the first phase has, that being a genre movie that so happens to also be marvel. WandaVision was a intrigue sitcom, Shang Chi was a martial arts flick, while Werewolf was a gothic horror movie. In the same vein Ironman was a military drama, Hulk was a monster flick, Thor was Shakespeare, and Cap was a wwII movie. If F4 can do this same xyz movie that so happens to be marvel, then we’ll be back on it.
Quinn having to prove himself as the Human Torch for the fans would help alot his portrayal of the character and his struggles. Many people just see the Human Torch as just a arrogant goofball and forget other important aspects of the character, namely Johnny's growth from a boy to man. He can be fun and naive but he knows when to be serious when needs and is always ready to risk his life for his family.
@@ianomondi3152 They can smooth out faces now sure, but body movements especially in action scenes always give away the true age. Idk how they plan to get around that.
@@nancykerrigan Not saying they are. The F4 are some of the most important characters in Marvel so I’d assume that they would stick around for more than just a few movies though. At least a few F4 movies and a handful of Avengers ones. That’s as many as RDJ did and it was 10 years. I just think that they should cast everyone a little younger to counter the fact that they will age in these roles through the story.
Johnny setting Peter's book bag on fire and Peter creating a water based /fire extinguisher web to stop Johnny from flaming on live action will be awesome 😂😂😂
I just don't know if we have enough time with the character. We're probably only getting a few more films out of Tom Holland, and some of those are big ensemble films. Plus, he can't show up on TV. I think we're gonna get him paired up with Daredevil, Johnny, etc. at some point but not to a significant level of development.
It’s painful the amount of people who think the DS2 reference of ‘FF charting in the 60s’ is about this movie and not about the actual band names FF who charted in the 60s
Given how many times they've had that matchup before I'd like this F4, just this once, to have nothing to do with Dr. Doom. I know it's a long shot, but I'd like to see *anyone* else as the antagonist.
I do think it'd be interesting to set it in the 60s entirely on account of the fact that you could have Doom introduced in the 60s and then still be around in the current day for no other reason than "he's Victor Von Doom, of course he solved aging for himself"
I hope we can get a barbenheimer like vibe around superman legacy and F4. Like it feels like an event when these 2 movies release and instead of a rivalry, they elevate eachother and word to mouth becomes that you have to see both. Fantastic legacy perhaps
I think he looks so different from what everyone's objective Reed looks like because he's supposed to be the one Reed who chooses his family over science throughout the multiverse and I can believe him doing smartest man in the universe with a heart of gold instead of steel.
Going through the comics it depends on what arc you read but I can definitely see Pedro playing Reed. While Reed is a scientist and nerd he does come off as an adventure type Indiana Jones figure. Plus he served in the army. I would highly recommend Marvel Adventures Fantastic Four 2005.
It did take forever but I feel like that's a good sign that they want to make sure everything is perfect. They only get to do this once. You can't just reboot Fantastic 4. It's interesting that actors who weren't around when this was announced are now in the movie. It's like this cast could only happen at this specific moment in time. Plus, casting one character is hard enough. Not only do they have to work with each other in the specific way they want the family to interact but each character has to separately work within the larger MCU with characters they will interact with and be consistent from movie to movie. I'm glad we finally have them.
Even though Joseph Quinn & Pedro Pascal wouldn't have been my first picks to play Johnny and Reed, I'm still open to it. Vanessa Kirby and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Sue & Ben are FANTASTIC choices (pun intended). Overall I really like this cast and I think they got a really talented group of actors to play Marvel's First Family and hopefully really do justice to the team that Fox couldnt. I also love the 60's esthetic and the wholesome family vibe from the poster which is everything I've wanted to see from the F4. I also excited to see the fan base discourse between both Marvel and DC films in 2025 which will be very fun to see especially since I'm super excited for both Superman Legacy and Fantastic Four. Could be the next Barbenheimer
