You should check out “Pit of Consciousness” (Live in Kiev) then compare her growls to this. Don’t worry it’s a hella banger.

I wish you did the music video to feel and see the emotion behind this song. Pulls at the heart strings.

The official music video is worth checking, too. On the studio version of the song the growls go even deeper. But on tour vocalists needs to conserve their voice, so the very extremes are often left out.

This song. When you get the lyrics it's painful. Just saw an interview of Tati and she said playing this song is hard for her cuz it's so emotional. You can see the passion when they play it. What has been done to the brave people of Ukraine in Russia's brutal invasion is nothing short of genocide. Nobody likes to hear it or to think about it, but Ukrainians don't have any choice. They were peacefully minding their own business when Russia attacked them out of nowhere. They're fighting for their survival. Don't worry brotha, you didn't ruin it. We've seen people doing a lot of pausing and rewinding, and we appreciate you making the effort to understand. Yeah, it's freaking complex! You're right, this is one of their most technical songs. It's meant to be chaotic and jarring. The whole band mimics the sound of a machine gun repeatedly and at unpredictable intervals with their unison staccato triplets. It's a musical interpretation of the confusion and fog of war. Never knowing when you're gonna get hit with the machine gun, or by a missile. You should definitely check out the original music video for this song. That's the one most people recommend. It's freaking intense though bro. Like once you understand what's going on in Ukraine it's gut wrenching. In fact it may be the most gut wrenching song and video I know of. It hits hard man. Not gonna get into politics here, but I'll just say that I support any leader or candidate who supports Ukraine. And if they don't support Ukraine, I do not support them. Period. Please do not believe the lies of Russian propaganda that call Ukrainians "Nazis" or "fascists." There's a long comment here that is full of lies and propaganda. Bottom line: Russia = Nazis. Pootin = Hitler.

I totally agree! The war shouldn’t have happened full stop and Putin literally is a bad man. I will do my best to check out the music video and thanks for the appreciation of me trying to understand it and pausing it. Oh I see so the song definitely has a strong meaning behind it. Thank you for this comment 🙏🏾😊

The "on beat" but also "not on beat" you describe is known as musical syncopation. Jinjer is excellent at it and so is Meshuggah. Agree with others that this particular song is best viewed with the OMV to fully feel the emotional impact of the lyrics.

I love Home Back! Not only for the fantastic music and vocals, but because for me, it makes me angry and sad for two reasons: both the call against war (angry at the US warmongers who caused the conflicts in Ukraine and Palestine and won't let either end), and also connecting the dots that all of these US backed coups and proxy wars have intentionally prevented global cooperation to address climate collapse (in addition to the war profiteering, fear of a good example and attempts at resource monopolies), so wanting our Home Back is an idea not only for all the war refugees but also for all life on earth about to lose our home because of US war profiteering ("don't you leave us homeless"). Thank you for reacting to it, Kaireem! More of the history behind it: in 2014 was the US backed coup led by Ukrainian fascists (Azov Battalion, Banderites, etc) that started a civil war (or just pogroms) where for eight years the Ukrainian military, led by Ukrainian fascists, killed ten to fourteen thousand Russian speaking Ukrainians in the Donbas region including Donetsk (where Jinjer formed). The "fire in the hole" lyric in Home Back is about the Ukrainian military killing Russian speaking Ukrainians. You can find an old video of Tatiana saying she's afraid her government will shoot her. That's what Jinjer had to flee when they left the Donbas region to be an essentially homeless/refugee band on tour for years on end. Russia got involved in 2022 (after eight years of trying to use diplomacy to resolve the aggression by the US) to stop the US from handing nuclear weapons to the US backed fascists in Ukraine. The CIA and its cutout NED have always and continue to fund, arm and train fascists like this all over the world for the express purpose of staging coups like the one in Ukraine in 2014. Azov Battalion, Right Sector and others were placed in the Donbas to kill as many Russian speaking Ukrainians as they could get away with, with multiple failed attempts to blame Russia for these murders. The murders were taking place in the Donbas, which is why Jinjer had to flee that part of Ukraine (they had to decide between staying and being unable to tour or leaving family and friends to tour and being unable to return more than once per year). Sadly, I see many fellow Jinjer fans (and others) caught up by the US war profiteering propaganda that makes them think Russia invaded Ukraine in 2014. This is utterly false. They sometimes point to Crimea. Crimea would have been more difficult for those US backed Ukrainian fascist groups, because there were historic reasons that Russia already had military bases in Crimea. None were added after the 2014 US backed coup, which is when the people in Crimea voted to leave Ukraine because they did not recognize the US backed coup regime which was de facto run by the US backed Ukrainian fascists (you can find video of those fascists pointing guns at the Ukrainian parliament). A friend of Jinjer's bassist Eugene was killed by Ukrainian fascists (not by Russians). When you listen to Jinjer's song Sit Stay Roll Over, take note that it has lyrics (by Eugene) directly quoting the mantra of some of these Ukrainian fascists, "one path, one past, one trust", which is then flipped in the lyrics to, "it's not one's path, it's not one's past, it's not one's trust, it's not MY path, it's not MY past, it's NOT MY TRUST!" Make sure if you get any part of that song stuck in your head, it's the flipped part and not the fascist motto. At least 87 to 95% of the world does not believe the US war profiteering propaganda, I just hope that number keeps going up! Again, thank you Kaireem for this reaction! ❤️🖤🤘

Wrong wrong wrong. You are so wrong in so many ways. You have it completely backward. Russia invaded Ukraine brutally. It's all on Pootin. This person is very biased toward Russia, and I recommend not engaging with them. America is certainly not blameless. USA has been involved in some very fucked up wars. We're not always right. A significant portion of the population protested those wars--because we have the freedom to protest and to try to change things, unlike Russians, who literally cannot even hold up a blank piece of paper in silent protest without being arrested and disappeared to the gulag. Yes, there has been war profiteering in Iraq and elsewhere. We hate it just as much as you do. But Ukraine has nothing to do with that. Just like the Brits and the Americans in World War 2, we seek no conquest or territorial gain. Unlike Russia. We are helping our ally, a free, democratic and sovereign nation, to defend itself against a genocidal invasion by a totalitarian country that wants to conquer all of Europe like Hitler. This person is Russian, biased, and aggressively incorrect.

There will be peace in Ukraine when all Russian occupying troops have left sovereign Ukrainian soil, and the borders are returned to those agreed internationally in 1991 when the Soviet Union broke up. When Russia has paid reparations for all the civilians they've murdered, the rapes, the mass abduction of children, the attacks on civilian infrastructure. Ukraine is not Russia. They don't want to be Russian, and they don't want Russia. They want their home back. Russia go home! Nobody wants you. Your empire is over. Pootin is a loser and a war criminal.

And here I was thinking the band speaking out against the russian invasion of their homeland dozens of times was indicative of their position. Luckily you made me realize that they only ever spoke out using the american internet and american backed concert venues, so their own words can safely be disregarded :)

If you don't see a longer reply by me below this, then you know youtube is censoring me. I never said Jinjer are not angry with Russia. But this song was written about the US backed Ukrainian fascists bombing the Donbas region. I never said that this song hasn't taken on new meaning for Jinjer since February 2022. But just consider that they may have had to agree to say certain things as a condition of their becoming cultural ambassadors and this could be part of why they don't like to talk about it.
