Who is this singer? Are these just 4 other musicians? They play very abbreviated parts, along with stilted timing, and don't offhand resemble the original band.
Wow! I’m in Love again! She’s a blessing. It’s inspirational as I dig up my old songs and record them. I keep listening to this one and get inspired again. You’re never too old to
Love the we five , I know it was a one hit wonder , but anytime I hear that song I crank it up , just love that Rick guitar sound , and glad too hear they still sound great
You just made my year! Although there’s no live footage from 1965, at least none that I’m aware of, I had a feeling this band was the real deal. The record has one of the best endings in pop music history. So sad to hear about Jerry Burgan’s passing.
Here is a live version of the original group with Fred Astaire on the Hollywood Palace: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8_f16t1JGHo.html&lc
@@LeeFred78 This is superb. They also had their road drummer, John Chambers with them. Jerry Granelli handled that role in the studio-created version. Bev is really enjoying herself and to be introduced by Fred Astaire with a snap of the fingers says it all. This is their only song that featured a drummer, btw. Is that fact just a coincidence that it was also their biggest hit?
You be the judge if the two ladies match up? Beverly Bivens Of We Five Returns After 40 Year Retirement 9/24/09 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GWnzv_yk5TU.html
Watching this performance almost makes me wonder what might have been had they stuck it out past their initial success and into 67. I wonder if they would have changed their sound to fit in with the newer bay area bands like the Airplane, Big Brother and the Dead.
@hammerogod This lady is good and has a direct, historical connection to the We Five. But sorry. Bev Bivens has an utterly unique voice that is most certainly "about the singer." She is back, BTW. Hopefully we'll hear more of Bev soon.
+goldeneagle7771 She might have given a hint when at the very end she said that it was an Arkansas saying. Bev has lived her entire life around the Bay area. The acoustic player on her right is one of the originals though...
Bev Bivens was the voice of the original band (6+ Million RU-vid views on just two vids of 'You Were on My Mind'), she quit in 1967 to live her life. At this point, it doesn't matter what 75 year old sings in a 'revival' band. The original stays on my iPod, wi/Beverly Bivens.
When this effing pandemic stops I am having a 60's party. Dress 60's, music, everything. If I win the mega millions this next drawing everyone is invited.
Beverly Bivens left the group a couple of years after their big hit single and basically fell off the planet until around 2015. This is still a fine performance and stands on it's own.
Heard this for the first time at age 11 ... my Aunt Bernice was babysitting us, my Dad had a new hi-fi that hadn't been properly broken in yet. We cranked it up and danced in the living room. "You were on my mind" started the ball rolling for me. Such incredible harmony. Thank you!
Even though the original lead singer isn't part of the line up in this performance, you'd have to agree that the group absolutely nails the ending of this incredible arrangement. Congratulations to all of you!
Debbie doesn't even come close to Bev. She just doesn't have the sound of the 'soul' that Bev did. Not knocking her or anything, but it is not Bev. Joseph F BTW, did you know that the original "We Five" were the first electric band out of the SF Bay area?
Great! Keep on keeping on We Five! You will always be timeless and fresh. True talent and cheery spirit will never die. You all look and sound fantastic. Wish I had been at this show. I cherish your music so much.
From Google, "Jerry Burgan (born William Jerome Burgan on February 3, 1945) died on March 29, 2021, at age 76. Pete Fullerton (born Clive Avon Fullerton on February 6, 1946, in Pomona, California) died on September 28, 2021, at age 75. Beverly Bivens is the sole surviving member of the original group." Even thought they didn't quite sound the same as their original 1965 tune, it was pretty close. I still like to see the original band members performing their signature song one more time. Even though I am not a musician, I am sure it probably took them a few months of rehearsal just to get this tune presentable, remember those folks are now in their 60s at that time. Yea, I remember just a little bit of my adolescent years.
It is defibitely Debbie Graf Burgan on the lead. Bev Bivens left the band after the second album. The band made 2 or 3 more albums and has been touring sporadically since then,
Just love This Song Also Sung By Thee Late Great CRISPIAN St Peters ( Take Your Pick) One Reckons Crispian(GRH) Wins ( Especially Live) Wbm Bonnie Scotland 🏴 Enjoy ( CRISPIAN Live Version Has Been Posted Folks ) Once More 😊 Enjoy 😊
WHO THE BLUE BLAZES are these people!. I was kid enough to experience the original We Five. Now, this. WOW!. and once again. WOW!. Anything further would be a waste of words!.
That's nice. I was a kid then, I thought this was another one of those 'Hootenanny' songs that were on the radio a lot in 1965 (ish). Didn't seem like that strain of music was around very long, and I grew to understand it a lot better when I was older. But I always liked this song, even then. I was them on TV singing it, and the lead singer reminded me of my teacher at school for some reason. Glad they're still at it and they really sound good, in tune and on key. More good times ahead for them.
'a bit of reunion' is sometimes rather nice but this version is so weak & lacks enthusiasm and it's rather sad to see Bev Bivens and others with so many years behind them. As Elton John once sang 'It seems to me a crime that we should age...' Enjoy this reunion if you want to but I'll listen to the original
If you think this was good, you should listen to the original with original lead singer Beverly Bivens. Nothing will ever compare to the power and beauty of her original vocal.
A lot of years passed between when they first perfomed that song and this performance yet they still.sang it like it was the first time. It wasn't Bev but she was represented well.
