Fun fact: for context on how high this kite flew, the Guinness world record for the highest kite was 4,422 m (4.422 km) meaning that Silvki was able to fly it 1/4 of the way there from breaking the world record.
yall keep forgetting that the line isn't vertical and therefore the actual altitude is 1000sin(theta) meters, theta being angle of string to ground. So it's probably less than 1000/4422
@@mumujibirb would they also have to account for the weight of the string causing it to dip in the center? Would the dip affect the theta angle and altitude calculation?
As a Vietnamese, It is too common to fly a kite higher than 1km. in my hometown they can make flute kites with a wingspan of several meters, made of bamboo and parachute cloth, which can be replaced with nylon. And with such a structure, it will be able to withstand the wind when going up high. and I'm sure the kite like in the video can't fly higher because it's not made to fly too high, instead of flying higher it will get farther away.
If you want to stabilize the kite and fly an higher heights . Attach three long tails to it, two tails on the left and right wings and one long tail in the middle. The middle tail has to be the longest while the right and left wing’s tails have to be same length. I used to build kites when i was young and that’s how I learned why it’s important to have three tails instead of only one in the middle.
Me and my brother had a kite up roughly this high when we were younger, we used 4 huge spools of 50lb fishing line rolled up on a giant hand spool we had. Had no drill though, had to wind it back up by hand afterwards, and it took hours and hours to do so, had to switch back and forth for hours.
I did this, but only used the super strong and long kite string you could find on the giant spools in the 80s Did it multiple times out in the county and left it aloft for days It took a few days to fully lower it. I lived out on a farm so I tied it to a fence post and left it in the upper wind stream almost a week. Top childhood experience right there. This video brought back all the warm fuzzy memories of that.
Did something like this in my mid teens. Flew a kite from our yard on a couple of 300yard spools of fishing line whilst in a populated part of town. I had the spools on a Bic pen and had leather gloves on to protect my hands from the friction. I would let out some line and slow down the feed rate to let the kite gain altitude then start over again. I could barely make out the kite in the sky (it was one of those cheap bat type of kites maybe 2 ft wide at most) At one point as I attempted to slow the feed rate the line snapped. I never recovered the kite. A few days later a friend of mine found some fishing line on the local golf course which was just behind his back yard. He attempted to retrieve it as it seemed to be long but had to give it up because it seemed there was no end to it. It turned out to be from my kite which had drifted close to 3km over a body of water before crashing on land near the golf course.
But except not with weight on it like a big camera and a small camera and also the mount for the two cameras. The kites Induan kids fly won't even fly a meter high with the same weight the kite in the video did. And also because the ropes/threads are not measured by Indian kids or Indusn kites in general, we overestimate the height covered by the kite because its calculated visually without any measuring tools/equipments. We think the kites flew at least a kilometer far but in reality if cdlculated properly it won't even be half a kilometer i.e 500 metres. So stop bluffing and being falsely proud of something that doesn't happen in India.
When I was a kid in the 80s I did this without a camera. I had it so high up that I was able to keep in the upper wind current for close to a week until I started to slowly manually bring it back. I brought it back down over a period of days. It was a Chinese long tail kite. One of my best childhood experiences. ❤️ I did this probably about 2 more times, the last time I cut the string and let her go😢
I'm from India...in India flying kites is a tradition ...so everyone everywhere flies kite including me...i have i have flown my kite more longer than in this video ... morning i flown it and i landed it in next day ...yes it was awesome.but ur kites are different than ours...we tie a thread to kites with our hands called as soothra.
The highest altitude by a single kite is 4,879.54 m (16,009 ft) and was achieved by Robert Moore (Australia) in Cobar, New South Wales, Australia on 23 September 2014. The record was attempted at Cable Downs, a 50,000 acre sheep station in far western New South Wales, Australia
Much easier in Australia, because you can just let a kite out and it will hang down, and since Australia is underneath the globe, it just hangs down, you don't even need wind.
in Indonesia , Bali , we usualy fly our kites more than 1000m high , thats what we called it "Layangan Pengambun" layangan is kite and pengambun is the kite touch the clouds . i love this video so much cause no one yet make the video like this in my country❤
I remember in the 1960's when I was a boy we used to fly kites to 1500m. There were no video cameras back then but then again there were also none of the distractions that kids have today, so kite flying was very popular. Most people made their own kites.
In India we have Kite festival on 14th January in Gujarat called Uttrayan and in Delhi side I think 15th August Kite festival is celebrated and whole sky is filled with kites... But usually we easily achieve this height when very few kites are flying in sky but the weight becomes very heavy and to control it is a art😊😊😊😊😊😊
😂😂😂 ya I was thinking the I same remember flying kite so high that it become hard to locate I was only managing it by gut feeling since it wasn't visible 😂😂😂😂
@@gclicxcreations specially white kite flying in night in dark 😜😜😜😜😜😜 Many people during uttrayan fly the kite n let the whole thread finish and fly till there heart is filled and then let go the kite emptying the thread holder completely... Reason is they want new thread and new kites for next year on 14th jan...😍😍😍😍😍
@@VJ96K 😁😁😁 lol i used to do this as kid and i remember my neighbor shouting at me " so ja sale kal din bhi chadega " kitne 🪁 udayega 🤣🤣🤣 dude seriously flying kite one of the best experience a human can get.
@@gclicxcreations My uttrayan use to start from 1st November till Feb end and i didn't flew kite during 14th and 15th jan as i didn't like anyone cutting my kite... On 14th n 15th i loved looting the kites and increase the number of kites in my stock😜😜😜😜😜😜😜
@@VJ96K good strategy where r u from im from delhi BTW 😁 WE FLY OF 15 AUGUST every year in different areas people fly kite on different occasion in india
You should try another version of the delta kite you're flying now for more strength and height. It is called double DC. Remember to use a very durable rope.
changing the angle that the kite meets the string might get it into a little less lift mode. also you could get a bigger cross member or even just get a spare one so you can double up on that tension.
That was good and brought back many memories. As a young child we built a box kite with my father and flew I so high it was out of sight. My Dad, much to my chagrin decided he didn't want to wind it back in so we just let it go. Not sure how high it was but literally out sight to the human eye. A box kite is much more stable and can take the high winds. Ours did at least. I would love to see another attempt possibly using a box kite. As Always, May God Bless you and yours! 😇
I vote for the box kite and UHMWPE string. I flew a 2.5' tall box kite when I was a kid and it pulled on the string so hard that the kite self destructed! I was amazed at how powerful the lift was.
Flying high kites is normal in my town (in India). This circular set-up you made to wind the thread is called 'Charkhi' (you can google the word and see). Flying kites was one of the best activity we did as a kid, and has now become a part of the culture. Happy to see such dedication and effort you made in recording this experience.
We used to make kites using newspapers back then here in Assam. We actually lived a real childhood period. Now children knows only PubG, Freefire etc. Less outdoor activities.
Mai yahi comment krne wala tha Indians ki chhat par inhe easily itni high kites mil jayegi even isase jyada high 🤣 dheel pe dheel fir chahe 1 ya 10 reel 2 se 3 km to pench ladate hain professional kite fighters 😄😅
Wow, this is magic, i saw many people in china letting their kites fligh very high on a spool you show in the beginning, but made of metal. still, i think you got higher with your construction.
Don't know about other places, but you need special permission to exceed.... UK - 60m US - 46m (150 feet) (special rules require pennant/streamer at 50ft intervals) AU - 122m (400 feet)
Do a search for "picavet camera suspension" and all of your camera mounting troubles will be solved. I used to do kite aerial photography (KAP) as a hobby and a picavet mount was crucial for taking smooth photos and video.
Sir kindly come to india During kite festival U will see everyone they fly like this without putting this much effort But appreciate ur effort But you are not first one👏👏
I know a way that will work 1000% in the part of the hospital myth which is exactly in the center tie a very long cloth over it like a bandage it will help to take it very high . you can elevate the kite as far as it is possible.
Ideally, you would use a sled-style kite. These kites have auto-zenith characteristics and are typically used by Antarctic research labs to hoist scientific instruments aloft. Consumer versions would be something like a 6m Pawita Pilot that's often used for lifting heavy-duty sky laundry at kite festivals. Use kitesurfing line made from Dyneema for maximum strength.
In college we took a 3 foot triangular box kite and reeled it out on 6000 feet of monofiliment fishing line. We started with 15 lb test line and needed increasingly stronger line; ending up with 60 lb test line in stages; as the line tension increased as the kite went further out. The kite never actually got very high as wind pressure on the line kept it a shallow angle. Was fun , though!
There are several different types of box kites that are by design more stable than a delta style. they create more lift, and therefore require a stronger line such as Spectra. I'll be watching for the next flight.
When I was a kid, my grandpa made a kite from broom twigs, newspaper, cooked rice(as glue), and a few meters of strings. I was surprised that it flew pretty well.
if you visit Indonesia (especially Java) you will find many kite pilots with a height of 400 meters with a drag of more than 30kg and even with such a height and drag they fly/lower without using special tools. only with hands and the cohesiveness of friends
In India we have lights weight huge paper kites ( made with bamboo sticks) & a light weight rope (Manja) to fly . Its normal in india to fly a kite upto 3000 meters high in the sky. As its apart of a festival that we celebrate in the month of January
In Indonesia they fly kites every day, some seem to be permanently attached to structures on the ground and have leds on them. Not sure if they are used to elevate aerials, but as they have a fair amount of lightning this might be a bit risky
As the wind speed increases exponentially with height, definately use a more suitable kite for the job (for instance : a KAP Foil 1.6) and appropiate braided dacron of enough strength as a kite line. Good luck !
Thanks for the show! Every episode is great but this one is a complete diversion from the usual. Always a great episode. Stay safe in your part of the world 🇺🇦
Titanic, the movie is about 3 surfers whos stuck in the ocean trying to get laid by manets. All three surfers died of overdose at the age of 96 yrs, still in the water screaming like windows 1.0. Tnx guys.
Excellent attempt. The no-tail kite design lends itself to swooping and spiraling at higher altitudes. Here in Trinidad & Tobago we've perfected the 'Madbull' kite which loves the breeze and can actually stay up overnight. Please research it and you will have better results at even higher heights. P.S The larger 'Madbulls' can actually lift a person off the ground so teams usually fly those using extremely strong string or twine. 🍺cheers
😮 I could not believe my eyes. In my school we have an activity to make and fly a kite in school itself. I wish I could fly that high (Like in the video).Hats off to you Mr.
Interesting, personally I would say that our kite is the wrong design type for the high flight level. I personally flew a Box Kite to 400m about 35 years ago. I would say that you should use a box kite design for a more stable flight. My kite was shop bought and also use carbon fibre rods for its rigidity.
next time have 2 sets of gloves for emergency line grab, a tight fitting set of mules[brand name stateside, made from a very durable leather] and a good new pair of welding gloves, wear the mules inside the welding gloves it may be the only thing saving fingers in an accident. if rope that thin is playing out at speed and you grab it with those thin rubber coated gloves it could take a finger off all the way to the armpit, it may sound like a joke but thin rope moving at speed is a SAW and will cut off even BONE if given the chance. DO NOT GIVE IT THE CHANCE
to measure the actual height of the kite, the tool used should be equipped with an altimeter so the year is the actual altitude. because when the kite is raised upwards it will not straighten up but tilt and the longer the string the longer the string will no longer be upright, it causes the kite not to go straight up either. I also wanted to do an experiment like that but because I don't have an altimeter, I finally resigned
Nearly 40 years ago I added about a mile and a half of string to a kite. Much to my dismay the kite didn’t have enough strength to lift all the string, and when the last part finally unreeled out the kite was barely quarter of a mile off the ground. And then the string snapped at our end. The kite took off and left a very long string over the entire town. Spent hours winding that back in.
I remember the days when we were kids we enjoyed flying a kite and used to play outside with friends 😌😇 compared to kids these days spends most of their time playing online games in their free time 😅
Been awhile but playing with the attachment point on some kites allowed my kite to fly into the wind at less of an angle. Tails and less angle sometimes helped with strong winds .
When i was a kid, I built a huge hexagonal kite made of bamboo and fabric. The kite was about 1.5 m in nominal diameter, and the tail was like 3 m. I had a huge spool of similar material as the one shown in this video. I wanted to take my kite as high as i cool. I started the process, but at some point, the kite was very far, but it stopped climbing . I gave it even more line. At the highest, i could hardly see it. It was getting late and it was time to go home. Huge problem!!! I can not bring the kite back. The force was wayyy to strong. I tried for about an hour, and i made very little progress. In the end, i had to cut the line. Later, i heard that the local airport in my small town reported unsafe landing conditions due to a huge kite. I almost got in trouble. I was 12 or 14 years old.
