It’s actually really jarring seeing this game after Super Stars. It’s really similar to how it feels watching Smash 4 footage after playing Ultimate for so long.
The funny thing with Sm4sh is I don't think its launch speed was actually any slower than the entries before it, 4's issue was it introduced effects to really sell the launching, like the comet trail and smoke[?] rings It looked really nice for its time, and then Ultimate came in with its balloon-knockback which worked _even better_ with the effects, but ended up making it apparent how rough it looked in 4 4's knockback effects make it _look like_ it should be faster than it ends up being in reality, and I feel like if you removed them and just had the smoke trail like previous entries, it wouldn't look as jarring as it does
Dash mentioning that he hasn't called his grandma in a while implies that he semi regularly calls her and calling your grandparents is definitely a hit
Listening to them ordering McDonald's as a McDonald's employee hits different now. Jo asks if they have buffalo sauce and I reflexively nod. Please help.
@@merchantziro4285 also as a burger king employee who has worked drive thru for nearly a year now same. And then thinking don’t do any special instructions we literally cant see it
Superstars is the guy who counts the spaces in their head as soon as the dice rolls. Super is the guy who individually counts every space as they move their piece.
I feel like we should talk more about the fact how Dash’s and Jawshs dynamic is absolutely incredible. Theyre chaotic opposites in the best way possible
Seeing the webcam is so weird, I thought it was just something like Jacob on a chair near the TV with Dash and Jo on a couch, not him sitting in front of a computer with Dash and Jo 10 feet away.
I second the Deluxe team’s thought that this game is too slow, and the game is too tidy in a way and doesn’t feel Zany and non-cohesive in a way that flows regardless, at least with the minigames.
yeah, Super Mario Party feels less like a "Mario Party with friends" and more like a "Mario Get-Together with a few people you kinda sorta know from work"
This game doesnt feel like mario party, its mario meeting. The less fun group gathering. Superstars is a step in the right direction. I just hope dry bones/koopa will be playable in the future
I’m so glad they’re bringing back boards from past games! It looks so much like super Mario party and I’m glad they stayed close to the source material.
wow. I can't believe they removed the stickers for this dlc. that's a crying toadette sticker right there- oh wait. I can't. CAUSE THEY TOOK AWAY OUR STICKERS!!!!
That mario golf canon lore drop right there at the end was worth the hour and ten minute time sink. Toadette and charging chuck have absolutely fucked.
I swear that Super was designed entirely for the two player mode initially, but they were told to make it more like the older games into development. Because coop is just so much fun. Also I actually really like the character dice blocks, adds some thought even when you don't have an item.
Seeing Jo with long hair is kinda strange to me bc I was rewatching some of the older Alpharad vids the other day and saw Jo with a buzz cut (or just really short hair). It looks good on him. It looked even better when he DEAD ASS PUNCHED JACOB BECAUSE HE GOT KOOPA. What a badass.
I do really love some of the ideas in Super. The execution isn't that great. I think tighter maps with 1-6 dice makes things les swingy, but then some dudes have 10 dice anyway. Giving characters abilities sounds fun but in order to give everyone a unique die there's a ton of stinkers.
Imagine We were so starved of decent mario partys at the time this came out that we were okay with 10 coin stars and last 3 turns instead of last 5 turns
Somehow the beginning of this episode was so jarring, because my brain knew something was fishy, but I could genuinely not remember if this is just what Superstars looks like xD
I had the biggest Icarus moment yesterday. My cousin & I where losing *every* round of bedwars we played. But on the last, everything goes good for once and soon becomes a 1v1 of which we're clearly better. So, we decided to taunt by maxing out amor, weapons, items, everything. We *finally* go to attack their bed, completely stacked and... Internet goes out, we lose the match
Honestly I'd be so happy if they just combined this game and super stars, or at least the best parts of both like some super Mario party minigames and charachters, even the custom dice are pretty cool
The custom die IMO is fine but Ally spaces need to be removed as it disrupts the balance...also it should be "10-sided" so it could also fit the 10-sided regular die.
I'm loving the more vod like content, definitely feels more friendly I guess you could say, it's great to finally be able to see these three amazing bald men.
40:53 "The phrase “it’s just a game” is such a weak mindset. You are ok with what happened, losing, imperfection of a craft. When you stop getting angry after losing, you’ve lost twice. There’s always something to learn, and always room for improvement, never settle."
So watching this reminded me of this unique idea I had that is sorta like Custom Dice but would make things way more interesting. Every character has two special abilities either being passive and are activated automatically with no cooldown or item-esce in that they can be used at any time but require a cooldown of 3-5 turns before being able to use it again. Examples of passive ones being someone who can or has the natural ability to fly such as Goombas, Yoshi, and Peach being able to take special pathways or shortcuts or someone like Bowser Jr having favoritism from Bowser and will actually usually get punished less from Bowser Spaces. Of course there would be a lot of items that can replicate these properties such as Wing Cap to allow a flightless character to take a flight shortcut once. Basically think of Skeleton Keys but certain characters have a special unlimited use Skeleton Key to always be able to take that shortcut. Though some passive abilities would be less shortcut based and more quality of life improvements such as Luigi having a half off at the shops for a hero discount. Meanwhile Item-Esce would be more self explanatory in that they're just on demand times, think something like Mario using a Mushroom at any time he'd like or Wario doing the same with a Poison Mushroom. Of course they mostly will just be preexisting items. However one of my favorite ideas of this is Waluigi could take a page out of Smash Ultimate Hero's book and use a Hocus Pocus-like item to him randomly use any item or special ability of any other character on himself or even have it used on any other player like it's a Poison Mushroom though you don't know what it is beforehand, meaning it could help you and give you some nice benefit by powering yourself up or hurting someone else or could shoot yourself in the foot and potentially power up someone else or hurt yourself. Hell it could even randomly use some of the rare Last 5 Turn only items or most expensive items in the game such as Super Warp Blocks or Golden Pipes. I would even want this as an Item just for the sheer chaos factor of it all. Of course this would be an optional thing as some players could just turn it off and have every character lack their special abilities.
I feel like if there was a chomp call item in Super, it would be like a Fly Guy or Paratroopa Pager- you take out the item, press it’s button, and the star moving cutscene plays but with more chaotic music as they move Toadette
I feel like a lot of the Super Mario Party mini-games were just like proof-of-concept games for the motion controls and such, like how 1-2-Switch's minigames were. Like a lot of the ones that are like "tilt and turn the joycon" or "use the joycon like a specific thing".
I think Jacob is probably the best RU-vidr I’ve seen. Like, consistently good videos, at a consistent rate, some of the best humor I’ve seen, honestly 10/10 RU-vidr.
I really like all the new ideas and experimentation Super did. You tend to not really see Nintendo games shake up the format or try new things, especially the games around the time Super came out. I love the idea of character die, I love buddies, and the minigames were really good. Unfortunately the boards are awful, online wasn't implemented until way too late, and the die are really unbalanced.
I think this video sells me on Superstars more than the actual Superstars content, bc I only have this game and hearing all of them talk about how Superstars is faster sounds nice ngl
Superstars is the superior game but I never did like how it took away the sheer selection of characters Super had. Superstars would be perfect if they actually let you play as Boo.
@@ziippolighter And Koopa! And Goomba, and Bowser, and Dry Bones... Honestly it's a shame how the "bad guys" got shafted. Bowser is still in sure but as an NPC.
Yeah, I don’t know why they didn’t add Dry bones, and they didn’t even an excuse. He isn’t anywhere in the game, so that’s why I want him in a future update, along with DS content even though it’s a far cry.
Bro just having this as background noise and then subtly seeing Goomba and thinking this is actual Super Stars DLC almost made me buy the game, a click away till Jacob said "We got to drop the bit."
