Whaen i poured the fuel out of my 69 Datsun 2000 Roadster the neighbors 100' away closed their windows. I took the tank to a radiator shop where they had a steam cleaner and when I got it back I never had any problem with fuel once I got the car running.

I'm sure there's somebody out there gonna poo poo this but I think the Toyota 22R motor has to be the best motor ever made you can't kill them!..I've got an 82 Toyota 4×4 that my Dad bought brandnew and I still have it my kids drive it to school and around are property I know has about 350.000 miles on it and it runs still like it was new..I have an old buggy that has one in it too that when I but it in it all ready had over 400k in it and that was 10 years ago.

When I was into Toyotas, I lusted after the 22R, but they were too blasted expensive to fit into my budget at the time. Good you seem to have found a good one! This would've been a good one for the Lotus 7 replica I wanted to build but couldn't afford...

Maybe it's just me, but I won't even try and turn over any type of engine that has sat for a couple of years until I clean the fuel system or at least rig up a remote fuel tank.

Always like the Celicas and Toyotas. Bought a 1989 Camry wagon with 5 speed manual transmission new. Had it 16 years and 236k miles. That thing moved 4x8 sheets of plywood, a bathtub, windsurfing gear And my belongings out to Vegas and back to the Midwest. Camped in it at the Grand Canyon What a great car. Sold it when I bought my 2006 Tundra which I kept for 14 years.

I'm officially jealous. I used to have an '89 Celica GTS with a 5 speed. One of the most fun cars I've ever owned. Really miss it.

The 22Rs are nearly indestructible. I managed to bend a rod after flooding one out. It missed for a thousand miles before the rod snapped and went through the side of the block.

I had a 83 toyota celica gt turbo liftback ,it was white with a sunroof my dad paid a dollar for it. my 17 year old self burned the wheels off it till the trans gave up . I loved that car,I was made fun of for driving a ricer till I smoked my cousins iroc z28.
