Let's cut Steven Ndukwu some slack here. He was simply highlighting how Cape Verde's European aesthetic might surprise some, not implying it's a European country in Africa. The influence is undeniable, and many African nations embrace diverse cultural influences. Let's focus on appreciating the beauty he showcased rather than nitpicking semantics.
Surprise some? That won't surprise anybody. What's so special about it? Did Namibia's European-German aesthetic surprise him too? Which African country has no European influences?
@@StevenNdukwu- You have to recognize that even the Cape Verdeans don’t like being called European-like. Read their comments here. Young African ppl today want to be given credit for their vision and the great result of their work and not being told this is Dubai-like or Europe-like. We understand the RU-vid algorithms and the need for views but we must respect Africa and the way we portray and talk about her!
Hi Steven, you are doing very commendable work. One can understand that your intentions were well-meaning. At the same time, there is also valid feedback from all the comments so far and I hope you pay attention to them.
As an African I am little disappointed by how you portray everything nice as European. Its like you were trying to say Cape Verde is too good to be African hence your heading.I understand the history but you can still appreciate the country as an African country with its own uniqueness
Right? I am so tired of those titles "Can you believe this is Africa"...jeez...stop already...can he just stop projecting his own ignorance on others..
This should be a learning moment for Steven. I understand the RU-vid system of trying to get traffic but cape Verde should be portrayed as African. People will still watch the video. An headline of Africa's hidden gem would have been better.
As a born and raised Caboverdiano ! Thank u very much for this beautiful video... That said! i really dont like the title !! We are a beautiful AFRICAN country a little bit outside of Africa. We fought for our independence for a reason! We consider ourself africans and nothing else! Being watching your content for a while and yes its top notch !!

You've disrespected the people of cape verde with that title!,its nothing like Europe its just a beautiful and wonderful place and its Africa, Africa is fhe beautiful continent.
Most Africans minds are still colonized, even as they try to look down on us in the USA. But, that's the trick of "Psychological Colonization" to look down on another group of Black people, to be looked at more favorably by Europeans....
I was watching the video on a television where I couldn’t read the comments. I had to use my phone to see if anyone commented about that insensitive moment where he laughed about someone surviving for 2 days. To say the least, I was disappointed.
That was very insensitive, I would think he knows better and to the Lady/Guide, those prisoners are the reason why you can walk around free today and have an opinion.
Ive always had a soft spot for cabo verde ever since I started enjoying the music of Cesaria Evora , amazing traditional musical culture of morna and coladeira. That unique mix of portuguese criol and african beats is something to behold!
Africa is Africa must not be compared with Europe.Africa is blessed 😇 even European know that.there’s no Europe in Africa.Africa is blessed with everything 🙌🏾
Yeah hey i just wonder until when everything that is beautiful in Africa must give praises to the European that's why the Europeans think they own us we don't belong to them and never we belong to mother Africa ❤️🇿🇦
@lolicon4 The reason why many migrate is because there are more monetary opportunities. If many of these countries provided the same financial opportunities that are in the west, many people would never migrate to the UK, USA, Canada or Europe Many are leaving beautiful countries, lovely climates, great food and amazing culture to migrate..its literally for material opportunities
40 years ago my cousin and I were at a night club in Boston and a white guy asked us if we were from Cape Verde. We could'nt understand why he asked us that. We never heard of Cape Verde, we are Jamaicans. I later met a coworker from there and I understood why that guy thought we were from Cape Verde after I learn about her people.
I'm also Jamaican...well both parents born in Clarendon, me - born and raised in the UK. I also had very little idea about Cape Verde, but went there for a week in Jan 2023. What a nice place! Before, I would fly down to the Caribbean most winters, mostly but not all the time Jamaica. Cape Verde is a good alternative. The flight time is 6 hours as opposed to 9 to the Caribbean, it is less crowded that the Caribbean and the beaches on Sal are just incredible, simply mind blowing. I'm going again in May 2024......
Africa is extremely beautiful… if we can explore and develop our resources, cub insecurities, and tell more stories like this to the world, we would have the Europeans rushing in to our continent . Cape verd is top on my travel list!! And yes I don’t plan to travel there with any lady… If you know 😅😅 Love your content Steve ❤
Hi Steven! Cape Verde ranks number 1 among all African portuguese countries: Angola, Mozambique, Guinea, Sao Tome... and it is due to good governance. Well done Cape Verde. Greetings from Angola
@@lolicon4No we are not Portuguese country. We were colonized with meant stolen and brutalized. You are very arrogant stupid and ignorant to think that is good thing. We are not Portuguese country but are African country! Africa is going to be great as a whole continent as one despite colonization continuing neocolonization.
@@jeangermain3621 No, its just the white people openly and confidently claiming everything good as "European" with a smile on their faces. Cabo Verde is an African country not European. and proud
Unnecessary hate yes Europe structure is beautiful than Africa infact I feel that they are way ahead than the rest of the world and I am not ashamed to admit that. it’s well maintained and so well organised. We should learn from them…wherever Europeans people go they will make the place like Heaven. The streets in my country made by Europeans like centuries ago still stands strong. Their commitment and cleanliness is way above all.
This is amazing place to visit i love the beaches. Stephen you're doing well i enjoy this vidoe i will like to visit there to see the wonderful landscape ❤❤❤
I have been the first German writing a tourism report on Cape Verde (now Cabo Verde) in the 80th. There was just very little tourism, the hotel in Sal was paid by South Africa, little pensions were family owned and mostly used by Capverdians from Europe or the US visiting their roots. The airport was build by South Africa who were not allowed to use the sky of the other countries because of the Apartheit politics. So just the South African Airlines, TAP Air Portugal, Air Senegal and Aeroflot were flying to Cape Verde. For Aeroflot it was an important stopp over on their way to South America. The most guest at the Sal Airport Hotel were South African and Russian pilots and stewardesses. That have changed in the following years and the Cape Verdian diaspora (2/3 live abroad, mainly Portugal, Netherlands, USA/Boston Area, little in France, Italy, Senegal, Guinea-Bissau) have invested lot of money into the country, also after Portugal have become member of the EU lot of funds from the EU were spent in education, agriculture, water (!), infrastructure, health, exchange programs via the ACP programs. Relationships between Cabo Verde and the rest of the world are good. I agree with the statement of the mayor of Praia in the video. I just hope most of the resorts today do not transfer the profit back to Europe, but it will remain at the islands and the country become more and more in the position to stand at their own feets. I think the chances are quite good and I hope the consequences of the climate change will not effect Cabo Verde too much, we will see ... I do not agree it is like in Europe. In any African country (more or less) there are areas where the infrastructure is more developed than in other areas. And just the infrastructure is not the main goal, that always are the people, the freedom, the culture, the openess, and that all relates to the education and the level of how to organize things, level of corruption (which is low in CV), security (which is high in CV), quality of the legal system, the courts, the police etc. Lot of things have to come together, not just the view of the moment from a tourist viewing nice buildings ... (Just compare this for a moment with the most expensive Palm Island "City" in Dubai. Nice houses, very special, but they have forgotten to think about the needed sewer pipes. They spent millions for the properties, but for 10 months per year it is stinking like in an cowsheed. - So just the buildings don't say much...). -- I agree with Dallaboyz224 (below, I cannot mark him here). Every country have something special, positive and negative, its own history, of course often overlapping with neighbouring countries, but Africa is Africa and that is correct and wonderful, Europe is Europe. It is good to have bridges, good to have exchange and understanding, peace, if there is a peace industry it is travel and tourism. And that works fine in CV. Some countries can learn from Cabo Verde. There are still some African countries who have not been developed for tourism because of different reasons, others are developed, but nothing works (like Nigeria, terrible unprofessional), others are trying their best and the result is great, need to receive more respect.
@@xandudicanda6303 Muito obrigado, thank you, mostly one get beated... especially when an European is talking about Africa. Some Africans become very nationalistic and do not allow any comment by anybody but Africans. Therefore I thank you!

I am Nigerian, and yes Cape Verde is now on my list of countries to visit (thanks to you). But just to emphasize, Its an African country. Africa has its own unique beauty. We don`t need to tag it "european" to validate its beauty and natural endowments. We are Africans, and we are a great continent. Truth is everything you see in this video is is thanks to Europeans. Tourists (Europeans) make this country whats it is. So yes, thats a little Europe in Africa. Moreover, tourism is not African concept. It's western...it is European.
I've been living and sailing in Cabo Verde for the past 6 years. So I've got to know the country pretty well. I've even learned the language, kriulu. I'm European and hope CV doesn't become more European and keeps its unique identity which is neither African or European. It's Cabo Verde. And then there's the music.... Merci pour votre observation. Je voudrais que vous sachiez que je suis libre d'esprit et que je souhaite uniquement présenter l'Afrique à travers mon objectif.
European country in Afrika? You got it wrong brother. They are descendants of Afrikans and Europeans. In fact most of them were taken from the Senegambian area. There’s even a linguistic connection with people from Guinea Bissau, in their CREOLE. Still that country has a division between Badios, the dark skinned Cape Verdeans and the Sampadjudu, the light skinned ones. In fact the country was tied to Guinea Bissau till 1980’s. They have opened their doors to all Europeans but not to Afrikans. The only difference is their mindset. You ought to do a better research.
We Badiu are senegambian/guinean descent. The doors is open for all of West Africa. The problem is that the government was hijacked by the Sampadjudu elites and they prevented Pan-African policies made by Badiu freedom fighters, they opened the doors to europeans, they brainwashed the population.
Sampadjuduz/Sampadjudaz Are A Multiracial Creative With Different European dna it starded with italian and british since christopher columbus was the first to come here it came here twice so they are british italian french Irish sum scottish dutch german like folk in fogu known as fogo in chã d'kaldera they are their descendants also people from goa sri lanka native american was brought here so they not just european descendants then Iberians aka spanish-portugue and us badiwz are lebou wolofs fulani serer mandika basari baga nalu susu jallonke tenda soninke mende temne krio bo/vai etc our folks was already here but lebou serer fulani from conacry migrated here voluntarily and kru people too folk act like what portugue said is true wich is bs then they brought and when i said they brought I'm not only talk about portugue but the other europeans they brought people from mauritania senegambia sierra leone liberian conacry ghana niger nigeria ivory coast benin togo burkina Faso etc guinea bissau didn t came till they claimed fake independence then they migrated from guinea to cape verde for better living and they doing till this day u know we all know 5they been obsessed with our people and our country so we are west African mauritania mali senegambia sierra leone liberia conacry all dat...
@@SHANNY13_96 give me a break. You’re making this up. We all know that Cape Very islands weren’t inhabited when Portuguese first arrived there! Why are you talking rubbish? It’s said that the archipelagos was prior to that used by many other indigenous afrikans who used to maintain it during their fishing ventures, mainly people from the Senegambia basin, many centuries prior to the any European nation. We cannot deny that the nation is a melting pot of cultures, nevertheless the main people brought there were mainly from the first Portuguese colony in Afrika, current Guinea Bissau, who also brought the Portuguese CRIOL that was first developed in GÊBA. That’s why you still have a lot of Mande/Mandinka etymologies in both Portuguese Crioles. For example the term BADIO is a Mandinka term called BAADIUN, which means “ relative, brother or children from the same mother;” the same way black people to call each other “brother or sister,” whenever we meet mostly in non black spaces. Because the dark skinned Afrikans enslaved there treated each other as brothers and posed a resistance to white domination. What you’re saying is not 100% accurate because the Italians and the Brits only used the islands for refueling and slave purchase purposes. Till today You still have “ carnaval Mandinka,” which used to be the acknowledgment of Mandinka influence on those islands. It’s mind blowing that you claim those ignorant issues about people from Guinea Bissau, when in fact they gave your nation the independence and also during the union of both nations from 1975 till 1980 Guinea Bissau used to feed Cape Vert cause the islands were barren. That’s the reason why most Cape Verdeans have migrated. I don’t know where you’re getting your facts from but perhaps you ought to educate yourself. Do yourself a favor and get DNA tested, probably you’ll finally see how much Afrika and Europe are in you. That Afrika is majorly Senegambia and Portugal as the European counterpart. The real Cape Verdeans know this. So why are you trying to write your own version of history? You’re just fairy telling.

Why are these islands not talked about much? They were the main point of the slave trade during Atlantic slavery. The Portuguese educated slaves in various ways (singers, cooks, farmers and many other things), to sell them at a very high price. This was where most of the slaves left the African continent were brought before going to America. During colonization, the Portuguese educated Cape Verdeans, prepared them for administrative positions and distributed them to other Portuguese colonies. In Guinea Bissau, for example, The Cape Verdeans were the ones who gave orders, if the natives who were forced to do forced labor did not obey they were violently punished. Even today, in Portugal where I was raised, it seems that there is a pact so that no one knows about the barbarities that happened on these islands in the past. Also many Capverdians don't see their selves as African. why? The colonial era is still very present within society, but if you want to make great friendships, real friendships, that's with Cape Verdeans.

I noticed alot of comments discrediting the European feel of cape verde. One thing I understand is that flights from Africa to Cape verde are more expensive than outside the continent ... that should be looked into
You're not wrong. When she listed the advantages of Sal and said there's not a big local population & it was modernized by Europeans so it's more secure. This implies that the local population, the autochtonous one, non white, is troublesome.
How many Cape Verdans own the hotels and tourist attractions within their own country? This reminds me of the same dynamic in the Caribbean...foreigners owning everything while the locals play host.
