WE FOUND IT! The Last Surviving Cityrama 

Tim is the type of guy to go to a classic car show ona bike.

Now, if you could work on finding Amelia Earhart, the Holy Grail and the Amber Room, or at least Hemingway's lost suitcase of manuscripts, that would really be helpful. Give it a try! 😁

I rode on a Cityrama in 1967, which to my mind looked like it was from the TV series "Thunderbirds"-- which was what passed for superior children's entertainment in those days. Granted, I was 5 years old at the time, so my recollection of Paris is that it was loud, overly large, and there were altogether too many people. I also have a vague recollection that the Seine smelled like a well rotted carp. Maybe that was from the trip we made in 1970 or 1971. Now, at age 60, I know August is not the best month to visit a major European city. Would that my parents had. Still, there was the Cityrama, and now you have performed a minor magic getting my stale old brain to remember things 55 years gone.

Absolutely amazing that was driven on a public road to the event, is it exempt from the French equivalent of the MOT?? :-D I donated!

I love how many videos on this channel are Tim describing some obscure old thing that used to exist followed by one of his fans going "Oh yeah, that's in my grandpa's backyard, you can come check it out."

I'm so glad it's actually being restored. My first thought when you showed the full state of the the thing was - "it's a shame no-one is planning to restore it", and then you immediately said that's what someone is planning to do. Great to hear it's in good hands and will survive.

It seems like this was a momentous moment for you. Last month I visited my old college for the first time in the year since graduation, and I accidentally met my favorite musician, who I first started listening to at that college, and heard him do an informal concert there in the lunch room of the college. That lunch room was where I would listen to his music so that I could have catharsis from the emotional weight I was carrying at that time. It was really emotionally significant, and I feel like this event has been the same for you. We as the viewers can definitely feel it.

The combination of superb writing, superb production, and in this instance, theme tunes from ‘On the Buses’ and, I think, the ‘Antiques Roadshow’ makes your videos the best of their kind. I look forward to seeing you soon.

Going strictly by the music hundreds of thousands of years ago an ancestor of Tim threw a bone into the air and it turned into a bus .

I sent a wee bit their way, it would be amazing to see this thing back in good condition and working again and I'm more than happy to give them a hand. Oh and Tim? Nice one dude, nice one. They're all good but this one felt special.

The corrugated panels were supposed to make it look futuristic back in the 60s, but now it make it look more like a literal shed lol.

Hey Tim, you remember that video you did about that resort hotel in the Azores that was rated the best hotel in the country when it opened, but it quickly closed down within a year or two and is now an abandoned junkpile? Such highs and lows, I still think of that as an example of a classic blunder. Any updates on that?

Thanks for another brilliant video. The Middle of Nowhere in Normandy is actually one of my very favorite places in France, and a close up tour of a running CITYRAMA was icing on the Mille-Feuille. As an aside I was happy to donate to the restoration and with luck I'll get to see the finished project in person 😁

Very curious about the restoration. Will they do a faithful restoration to restore it as stock as possible, or will they also make adjustments to prevent any overheating incidents in the future. I do hope it's the latter. It would be a sad day if the restored one ended up suffering the same fate of its siblings.

Brilliant! Thanks, Tim, for this amazingly good news update. I think I can hold on the four years or so its going to take the professionals at Normandy Classiques(?) to restore this icon of 1970s French cool and style. As a bit of a gear-head myself, I find myself wondering about how those guys will go about the restoration. Things like the engine, transmission, chassis, brakes, and electrics will be relatively straightforward. As will the paintwork and upholstery. But remaking all those windows and fabricating the unique bodywork? That's going to be a challenge. Not impossible, but the sort of task that will take specialist craftspeople a lot of time. And, it must be said, are they going to do anything to address the (literally) glaring problem that doomed the original Cityrama to such a short service life? A restored Cityrama to sit in a covered museum would be nice. But a running Cityrama, taking paying guests on motorised tours of various French cities and towns? That would be outstanding. And to do that, they'll have to do some work on providing an effective VAC system. Bon chance, mes amis!

Hi Tim, I was wondering if you were interested in a particular closed train station in London that has a fascinating history (at least to me)... Primrose Hill. Located on a spur between the Euston to Watford Junction DC line and North London Line in Chalk Farm, near Camden Town, it was a station that was closed because...it was inconvenient for the train company to operate it. Once upon a time it was a busy station, but by the 1980's most of the land that made up the station had been sold off and it was left with just a single island platform. Originally serving trains to and from Broad Street, over the North London Line, when Broad Street Station closed in 1986 to make way for the Broadgate Business Park, the service switched to Liverpool Street. However, the death nell had already been wrung from the station. British Rail were doing a typical tactic of the time to shortcut the closure process, turning potential customers away but running trains at inconvenient times (for example, towards the end, the one train a day to Liverpool Street was scheduled to arrive at 9:02am...handy if you had a job that requires you to start at 9am). Closure eventually came in 1992. Why do I bring it up, you may ask? Well, in 2011, I was travelling on London Overground from Watford High Street (I'd visited the abandoned stations on the line to Croxley Green that day) and noticed that the trains that would normally terminate at London Euston were instead going to Stratford. At the time I thought, hang on, that's not on the same line as this, what's going on? Then days afterwards, by complete chance, I saw a video from Citytransportinfo showing the station, including a ride through the site where the station used to be. The footage revealed that the stairs from the station building were gone, the shelters on the island platform were gone, but although overgrown with weeds, the island platform itself survives

Didn't ride it in Paris in the Sixties, alas - too touristy for the likes of serious students like me. Now the sole survivor apparently lives near where I did during my first stay in France. Small world.

It's a great pity that France has such fragmented road transport museum collections. Mind you, the situation is no better in UK. Only the national railway museums of each country demonstrate how it can be done.
