I agree with most of the other commenters, this was a modern fairy tale & very sad, poignant & strangely beautiful. So very different from almost anything thing else ive heard. It was so unusual that i could be very easily persuaded, this, was a real story. After all there was an underground city of many levels deep below the earth at Catal Hoiyyuk( apologies to any Turkish readers for my bad spelling) that goes back thousands & thousands of years so an underground tunnel down a deep shaft doesn't seem an impossibility. @@patrickrushbrook4523 The Clearly Canadian gave me instant reference to the time period. Peach was my favourite. Last time I found a bottle was a couple of years ago and it was full of artificial sweeteners, gone from the perfect balance of tart and sweet to just cloyingly saccharine. I was very disappointed. Are you a Ray Bradbury fan? Your story would have fit perfectly in the pages of October Country or the Illustrated Man. My eyes welled up just before Jack mentioned his and Vlad's coming to tears. That's pretty special. Thank you, Mr. Rushbrook, for sharing this.

Wow. Special indeed. It floors me that my writing could have that kind of effect on someone. Thank you for sharing that. I watched Ray Bradbury Theater some with my parents, but I couldn't recall a bit of it. I also read F451 for school, I believe in the 9th grade. I don't recall what it was about other than burning books, and a guy's struggle with being responsible for doing it. I was reading a lot more at that age than I do now. Now, as my daughter (at 9 years old) answered an assignment that said "do you read outside of school?,"... "I read the TV to find my shows."

This was more cool than scary. I kept thinking something bad was gonna happen to them. It did, just not to them anyway.

wowww...that was an amazing story...i was rivated by it...had an amazing ending too...wonderful narration doll face...i love stories like this...so cudoos....it was full of detailes...just captured me by the way it progressed...that so depicts how mankind acts too...they take advantage of others they deem weak but in the end are killed by the slaves that were only here to make a home...so appladed the ending...both sad and triuphumpant....you did good...
