Everyone things I’m crazy for sparing insect life and going out of my way and over any fears I may get, to try and help them. This reminds me of a specific time when I found a small beetle stuck to duck tape while finishing work. I had to be very careful with its other limbs, antennas and back could easily catch into the tape as well. And sense I was told growing up they breath through the pores all over, I was afraid to clog any- but given not much choice, while trying to use the smallest amount and the most precise area of the only thing I could to unstick him alive and all limbs and antennas intact, which was Mayo. This is strong duck tape. It unstuck his legs, antenna and the portion of his back successfully. I was so relieved! If you know something better I could use just in case in the future, please tell me. But if you’re SUPER gentle, careful and small amount/ precise, and don’t know what to use either, this did save him! It did take me probably almost half an hour, but this is sense I was trying to be very very careful, due to how thin his legs where, and the duck tape could still get caught on his other legs and the rest of him. Everything worked out and he crawled away into some leaves outside when I was done. My sibling thought I was weird, but it was so worth it to me. You guys are amazing! Also, do you guys get weird looks and comments too when you save spiders and ants? And what do you say to them? I always tell them it’s a life to, and how would you like it if a giant smashed you, lol. I’ve been a shield and kind hands to safely for any insects.

That was a really cool thing to see ya guys do! A couple things I noticed that would improve the strength of the wing from detaching just incase you have to ever perform a wing replacement again would be a larger area of the new wing with glue even if a 1/4 inch longer would be more glue area allowing a better and longer hold. Second I would have glued the new wing underneath the damaged wing instead of on top. The reason why would be for support when he is flapping his wing and he is pushing them down the damaged wing on top has more pport on top to push the other wing down without it breaking.

I dont think other people would do this for abutterfly. Not many people have a kind heart like you. Every little thing ounts. You made his or her day

Monarch butterflies actually live 5 to 6 weeks. Only the very last batch of the season in late August early September make the migration to Mexico and live for 8 to 9 months. But I think this is so awesome. I wouldn’t know how to do this for my butterfly, but I love that you did it.

There is one implication to this surgery though. If that malformed wing on that butterfly was not a developmental defect or due to a sporadic mutation but is in fact heritable, if that particular butterfly mates then the offspring will likely have malformed wings as well and will only add to the overall suffering of the butterfly population.

I'm fucking scared of butterflies 🦋 . Whenever I see a butterfly near me, I scream and run away from it . All my friends told me "May be you are the only one who scared of lovely butterfly". But I love to watch them on screen.
