We found that it really helped our cocker spaniel to put a blanket over the cage so it covered up the top and sides but the front was open. This allowed him to lay down and be calm instead of seeing everyone walk by which caused him to get so excited. It just seemed to help him know it was time to be good and go night night. Hope it helps! Erica
With our puppy, in the very beginning we had his crate in the bedroom so he knew he wasn't alone. Then once we moved him out we put a blanket over the crate at night time. I also would recommend blow drying him after a bath, because their hair can get really matted at the root if not dried properly. He's adorable, can't wait to watch him grow!!
omg he's sooooooo cute!!! Congrats on your new baby :-) If he cries in the crate, try putting in one of your or Josh's shirts in the crate with him, that way he can smell you know know you are near. Or, try leaving on a very low volume radio, or even a clock so he can hear the ticking to keep him company. also, always reward him when he goes in his crate. make his crate his safe haven. Here's a general tip (sorry, it's the vet tech in me), I'm sure they told you at your vet, but don't take him out in public (dog park, pet store, etc.) until he is fully vaccinated, which will be at 16 weeks old. The distemper/parvo vaccine takes several boosters before he is fully protected. Parvo can live in the soil for up to a year, so that's why it's important for him not to go in public places. Again, congrats to you guys. Dude is precious :-)
I have a Goldendoodle. Her first birthday was yesterday. Dude is adorable. I bet he will be a pretty big boy. My girl was 15 lbs at 14 weeks and at a year she is 51 lbs. Do keep the crate in a central area which I see you have. Get a crate with room to grow instead of getting a crate each time he outgrows one. At night, we turn off the lights and cover her crate with a blanket. It has worked well. She is so good in her crate overnight. She whines in the morning because she needs to go potty and then eat, but otherwise she is awesome in her crates. She rarely barks which I love. They are great dogs.
Our GSD/Pit loved her crate when she was a puppy. we would leave the door open and she would just go in there for naps during the day and at night she knew that it was time for her last pee of the day and then she would run into her crate, get a biscuit and sleep for the night. When we adopted our Carolina Dog, he was 1.5 years old, never been outside and terrified of the crate. All he wanted was to sleep beside our bed. Now they both sleep in our room, not in crates, but with the same routine of last pee, bed and biscuit and that is them till our alarm goes off at 6am.Dude is gorgeous and I wish you many years of happiness.
He's adorable! I have a puppy too and we have his bed in his crate with one toy and he loves going there now. He did cry at night for the first month (3 months) but now he's 7 months and he grew out of that fairly fast. I also throw his towel or blanket over his crate when it's bedtime so he doesn't want to go out if he sees you. Try to put him to bed around the same time to get a routine down because they need that😊🐶🐶
I recently put down a deposit for a golden doodle and I am so excited. Mine is a miniature goldendoodle and the mom is a f3 sable colored which is crossbred between a f1 and f1b and the dad is a phantom poodle. My puppy should be around 20-25 pounds full grown. Watching your video makes me so excited for my puppy.
@@Abbyefied hey is dude is f1 standard golden doodle or f1b standard golden doodle and is he a golden retriever mix with poodle please please respond respond please 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾❤️❤️❤️😭😭😭
Yes leave the crate open throughout the day so he can go in when he want to not when he just needs to. Also get him a Kong if u haven't already and you can PB in there. Can even put it in the freezer to have the PB not easily gone. We have two yellow labs and with the kong helps him want to go in cage. He's so adorable congrats guys!! Make sure to have plenty of chew toys so they can teeth on them instead of furniture.
He is super adorable! I have a golden retriever who acts like Dude but my golden has doggie anxiety. Any sudden movements or different noises makes him very nervous. He actually is on a medication for his anxiety.
You can try putting the crate next to your bed initially. If he cries don't take him out but put your fingers through the bars that way he can smell you lick you get a little comfort but still not get his way out of the crate. If he cries incessantly he probably needs the bathroom.
I have a 4 yr old golden retriever/lab mix and this makes me wish he was a puppy again. I carried him everywhere because I knew he was going to get so big. He's +100 lbs now and the vet guessed 75 lbs! I made sure to start teaching him tricks when he was only 8 weeks old to keep him busy and happy learning. Dogs love to learn and please their parents (owners). My dog has never eaten or damaged anything in our house, and I really attribute it to the training and time spent with him as a puppy. Congrats, guys!
I have a f1 goldendoodle that is 6 months old and he started out being a chill and sleepy pup but now he runs around a little bit more than before. One way that i made him more comfortable in his crate was to put his blanket in the crate with him. I don't know if it was because it smelt like me and he felt comforted but he seemed to enjoy it!
I have two F1 standard Goldendoodles and they are fantastic puppers. You will have so much fun with him. Super smart and easy to train- and they steal the show everywhere they go!
He is so lovely. I hope he settles down soon for you. When we got our puppy, we put a small (warm) hot water bottle in his bed, wrapped up in a towel and then a small clock above the bed. We were told it makes the puppy snuggle into the warmth thinking it's their mother and the ticking is her heartbeat. It really worked! After a few days he settled down at night, on his own in the kitchen.
As he gets older but him a bigger crate, but a decent sized bed and put it in the crate, I did that for my dog and she's a Bichon Poodle and she loves her crate. And when we leave her home alone we tie her leash to the crate so that way she still has freedom to walk around, but she can still go into the crate if she wants to!
Our vet suggested feeding inside the crate. Works well for when guests are over or multiple pets. Our dog loves his crate. The first three nights he cried we shook a metal can full of pennies. I read it online and after only one can shake we had no issues.
We did have 2 cockers that we kept with us at all times except for when we let them stay together before they got picked up to go with the dog sitter for the day. With us working long hours it was not fair to leave them alone for 14-16 hours a day. Yes proudly spoiled both of our 4 paw girls they were the best dogs. Everyone who met them could see how obedient and loving they were. Just sharing our experience no judgement on how anyone raises dogs or kids. He is yours. ❤️🐾❤️
Aww, what a cutie. congratulations. We are huge dog lovers. We've had our chocolate lab since he was 8 months old. He is 4 now. Rescued right off the street literally. This baby looks like a snuggler . How sweet.
Put a pet bed in his crate and leave his door open all day so he can go in and out when he wants...my two Boxers loved theirs! It's a safe haven to them...like their den sort of...he's adorable!
We have a 10 yr old Goldendoodle. She has been the BEST dog I've ever known. Smart, sweet, obedient and sooo loving to everyone and everything. We only kept her in her crate during the day when we were gone for the 1st year as she didn't need it after that. They love to be with their humans as much as possible and seem to do best in the bedroom at night to stay with their pack. ENJOY every minute with your sweet little Dude. He is a DOLL!!
Oh and btw my dog that we have now uses his crate (wasnt ever crate trained, he sometimes goes in his crate when he starts acting up like when he starts peeing in the house when we're away, we'll put him in his crate when we leave). We put blankets in it and a toy and when we leave we give him a treat when he goes in
I love my Bella Rose (F1)..best decision I ever made as a pet! Mine never cried...except when I walk away from her :-( She just turned 1 year and 4 months old... I've never gotten tired of her energy and love her even though I'm 64 years old. Keeps me young!
Our dog use to cry a lot when we put her in her crate and we were told to put in some old clothes of ours that had our scent on them so she would feel more comfortable. Just like a shirt or something. It helped. We also put a blanket in the bottom and always left the door open so she could go in when she wanted. She goes in on her own now.
I recommend putting some old towels or something, with both of your scents, in the crate with him. That way he can associate being safe and secure. We put old towels that we sat with or put our scent on in the crate; worked really well because our dog would cuddle with them. But this technique is what we did when we left the house; not overnight. Our dog sleeps in our room on a separate dog bed or sometimes on the bed. Never in his crate...
Dude is a cutie Abby!!! Congratulations on your new addition🐶🐾. We have a Lab and when he was a puppy we would cover his crate with a towel/sheet so he would know it was bed time lol. We tell him every night go to your house and he knows now. He kept us all up the first few months but they adapt. Enjoy your baby pup! They grow so fast! Oh and bully sticks are the best!
He is sooo ADorable!!!! He gets 5 puppie's instead of stars.🐾lol 🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶 I heard the hair on cockapoos doesn't fall out too much so maybe it will be the same for goldendoodles... It will be nice. I think it is the poodle part that is that way. Love his coloring.
This video is giving me so much nostalgia right now!!! Makes me miss when my sweet doodle, Lilly, was a little baby! She's about 60lbs and my grandparents have a male doodle, he's around 90lbs so he's definitely a big boy just like Dude will be too! Lils is kennel trained & I ended up putting her bed inside her crate and then eventually just put some fleece blankets in there now that's she a big girl. I could never leave her in her crate at night so she's been sleeping with me since she was a baby. They keep you extra warm at night ;)
Our yellow lab had seven puppies and we house broke all of them before finding them excellent homes. They were all so incredibly cute. You really do need a larger crate so Dude can stretch out on a soft mat. Be consistent with what you expect from him and he will get it. If you don't he'll be sleeping on your bed. We also had a St. Bernard who snored. Talk about lack of sleep! HA!
One time Gretchen, the St Bernard, pulled a fast one on me. I had just finished preparing dinner with a lovely steak and went to get my husband. When I came back, the steak was missing. I looked around to see if maybe I had put it on a plate and forgot where I had placed it. Gretchen was in the living room snoring away. I stared and her and even while snoring, she opened one eye to peek and me and then I knew where our dinner had disappeared. We had an omelet instead.
When i was crate training my aunts dog we used a night light or fairy light, a bully stick for a snack, some toys, and a soothing sound, and a humidifier is optional. But that really worked for our golden doodle.
One tip is be careful of getting water in his ears during bath time. For dogs with floppy ears it can lead to yeast infection of the ear. Congratulations on the cute puppy and good luck!!!
He is adorable!!!! My dog is the best thing that ever happened to me. Keep the crate in your room at night with a blanket over it, he will adjust in about a week.
We never crate trained our dog. He was happy being with us and loves to snuggle. Our vet said is was fine and I just read an article how sleeping with your dog has many health benefits My goodness though...he looks like a teddy bear. I have never seen such a chill dog. He is so sweet!
We crate trained both of our adult rescue dogs just this past year. I think the big thing was feeding them in there for their meals. We feed them through their kong toy which they really love. Also, we always keep the door open and had a fuzzy mat inside for them as well. I would say about after a couple weeks when we would just be sitting at home they would often be in their crate napping because they loved it so much :).
Try covering the entire crate with a blanket...also you might try a ticking watch on top of the crate to mimick the moms heart beat or give him a special plushy he can only have in his bed.
A suggestion for crate training would be to out the crate in your room. We did that with our dog and it worked out great. Now he sleeps on the floor in my room
Congrats on the new family member...super cute. A thing I use to do when I had a puppy was taking an old shirt that I wouldn't mine using ever again and wear it so that my smell would stay on the shirt, then I would put that in the puppy's bed so that it would feel and sense I was close to him and wouldn't cry at night. It work with my beagle. Another thing someone else recommend I do is to wrap around that same shirt a small ticking clock (the ones that makes noise) so that the dog feels it's snuggeling close to you as it hears the ticking noise... like a heart beat (I've never tried that). But who knows it might work. Good luck and hope it gets better.
go for the biggest crate he will need it. Give dude some bedding inside something to ruffle around and lay on. Crate training also works well if you do it a few minutes at a time and work up to it. Leave the cAr open so they can come and go as they want during the day. also cover the cage to make it dark in there I needed to do it for my dog. she sleeps with us now but that's what we use to do.
Look at all those puppy teeth! Hope he's not destroying anything yet. My pup hated the crate but after a few months she absolutely loves sleeping in there, I don't even close the door anymore since it's her pass out corner lol I've read/heard that you should get him used to being in the crate while you're at home during the day so the nights are better. That way he's getting used to time away from you and he's not crying all night for you Good luck on the pup for both of you
+Neysha Ortega he hasn't destroyed anything YET! Fingers crossed!☺️ thanks for the crating tips!! Will definitely try getting him used to it during the day more!💜
Oh my Goodness this is the most adorable thing ever!!! Dude is beautiful and such a wonderful temperament. I know you guys will all have such fun times together for many years to come. xxx
Have you tried putting a blanket or a warm water bottle that he can snuggle up to? When we took home our puppy they told us they like the warmth of their mom or siblings to cuddle with. Also an old school alarm clock so they can hear a ticking that mimics a heartbeat. I'm not sure if these are good for crate training just things i heard that can comfort a puppy. Good luck! :)
Go ahead and buy the big boy crate with a divider panel. Most Important, stick with it. Our dogs all cried at first, but now as adults, the crate is their safe space. Also make sure to tire him out right before bed with lots of playing, fetch, etc. the BAll Chucker is the best invention ever for big dogs with lots of energy. and the all time best dog shampoo is actually the Kiehls. Our Golden loved hide and seek. You hide then call out where am I, and he will have to search you out. And MOST IMPORTANT!!! NO COLLAR IN THE CRATE>. My friends puppy was strangled to death in his crate many years ago. Also start collar or harness wearing asap. Otherwise he will be a big old stinker when it's time to wear it.
Dude is sooooooo cute! His fur looks so soft. Get a pet cushion/bed at Tractor Supply Co and put in there, he will love it. Our beagle goes in her crate on her own at night. Good luck.
Petsafe toys are great. I usually buy them on Amazon. Treat dispensing balls are fun to put your dogs food in & watch your puppy push it all over the house to get it out. Enjoy your puppy he's adorable
Awww, congrats hes so cute, I just got a golden doodle tooo, she's a f1b mini, the breeder i got her from had a good idea, she said get a playpen for dogs and i put her in there when i can't watch her and I'm busy, and make it smaller at night like a crate size and put her bed in there. And also keeper him in the room so he won't feel lonely now and play with him so he can be tired at night, around 7 we play with her alot and then she sleeps good. Doing these stuff really helped! I hope I explained right. If you want to ask me about anything feel free to email me. They are so lovable! Goodluck with everything!
He is so cute and so laid back. My dogs love their cage. I have one in the office down stairs they go into when everyone is gone and one in our bedroom that they only really go in at night when we all go to bed. I tried leaving them down stairs at night but it wasn't working very well. They sleep great in our room so it worked out. I purchased our 2 crates like you have on Amazon. Very good prices. good luck and congratulations on being fur baby parents!!
He's adorable 😍 and like everyone has mentioned put a bed in his crate and teach him that it's his safe spot. You should also always leave it open so that he is able to go in and out as he pleases in the day time.
Honestly with our pup the biggest thing that got her used to the crate was time. The first month or so was hard but after that she did pretty good. As far as toys our yellow lab is a big chewer so any plush/soft toys she chews. I recommend Kong brand toys which you can get at most pet stores and West Paw Design toys are our pups favorite and they are made from recycled materials and you can usually find them at local pet boutiques or online. Congrats puppies/dogs really are an amazing addition to your family!
I have rescued 2 dogs, crate training is the best, & I used submissive posture on both of my pups into their dog hood. For the crate our pups only cried for the first couple of nights then fine, he will get tired too, maybe try some walks .. He is absolutely adorable !
Omgggggg he is GORGEOUS!!!!! perfect little boy awww. Wow and soooo big. I have a one year old shih tzu and she's 12 pounds haha so when I see huge puppies my heart melts
Btw my girl isn't in a crate, well it's sort of a crate but it doesn't have a roof!!! English is not my first language so idk how to say it, in Spanish it is called a "corral". I leave the door of it open and she just goes in there when she wants to sleep since her bed and blanket are there.
I'd also cover the crate at night with a comfy blanket in it so he knows it's a safe haven. Do you leave it open during the day so he can go in there when he wants.
For my dog we put a dog bed at the bottom of the crate and I'm sure t doesn't really make a difference but we call it his "house" now that he's much older we can just tell him to go in his house and we don't even have to shut the door. He even just goes in there now on his own accord. It's like his little safe haven
Hi there! I just wanted to say I enjoy watching your videos and especially enjoy it when Dude is featured. When I got my first Goldendoodle a year and a half ago, I binged watched all Dude’s videos to get any info I could. I’ve recently started my own channel and now I have two Goldendoodles! Thank you so much for the inspiration!
We have a Chocolate Lab and when we were crate training a friend recommended putting a clock or something near him that makes a consistent faint noise. The ticking is supposed to calm him.
He's so cute.. Congrats!💜😊.. I've never crate trained my dogs.. I've always used the one word puppy training method and the bells at my back door.. So happy for you guys.💗💞🐶
My dog Lucy we've had her sense summer and she is still having trouble crate training, what we do is give her a chewy in your case a beef stick and let them chew it with the crate door open have them inside the crate and you outside and they should just get used to it and soon enough you can shut the door
I have a labordoodle that is doing great in the crate now but what we did is we put the crate in our room and put a blanket over it but make sure he can see you and that seems to work
Love this vid! I am getting a goldendoodle in about 6 weeks, June 1-5 hopefully, and my family has purchased so many books and movies so we are really trying to do our research. For the crate, I would say to just try and make it as homey as you can, put a blanket in there, some chew toys etc. if possible. Thanks for sharing the exciting news! Im late, I know but I found this vid and your golden is so cute!
I didn't crate train either one of my dogs (both from the same litter), they have dog beds around the house, but they prefer the couch and our bed. YUP, my dogs sleep with me every night and they hog the bed lol. My dogs are half yorkie and half lhasa apso. One dog is 17lbs and the other is 11lbs. They have hair, so they don't shed.
Do you keep the crate in your room when you go to bed? When we got our mini dachshund he would cry unless we put the crate in our room for sleeping at night. He could sense we were there & he no longer cried! He loves his crate. We leave it open during the day so he can come & go as he pleases. Good luck!
He is just sooo sweet!! What a teddy bear! Our dog was a year when we got him so I don't have too much great puppy training ideas. But he seems like a good little boy already!! Would love to know where you got the tree canvas you have above your table in the background? Such a pretty room!! Congrats on your newest addition!!
+Kim Solimini aw thank you! 💕☺️That canvas is from hobby lobby! I got it about a year ago, a lot of times they have the same things or items similar! Thanks for watching!!💜
Hi Abbye, thank you so much for sharing this adorable video!! You guys have THE cutest Goldendoodle that i’ve ever seen👍 Do you mind me asking, what breeder and I’m what state did you get Dude from? And I totally understand if you are not comfortable sharing this info. Thanks so much!!
