We Got Lost! A Long Mudlarking Journey In Search Of Bottles, Beads + Sea Glass!

This week we had a bit of an epic adventure along the Thames Estuary! We went to find sea glass and beads but managed to get lost and found a few more treasures! Come with us as we scramble through the overgrowth and mud, out of breath and boiling hot, to find artefacts left behind from years ago :)

The "deer pot", could be repaired to be an umbrella pot for the dolls house, or a giant flower pot. The victorians loved their big potted ferns.

Tie a ribbon around that tiny Bovril bottle, fill it with the ends of some prairie grass and it would be a lovely large arrangement for the dollhouse!

The old toothpaste lid looks like a terracotta flower pot! Watching Kit walking through the reeds reminds me of a Jane Austin character 😊 a free spirit walking among other wild things.

The stag stein remnant would look marvelous transformed with milliput into an umbrella stand for your doll house. I’m glad you survived your adventure! I hate nettles, personally. Their stings last for hours! You both had my full sympathy.

Back in the 1950's, we use to play a game called, "Drop the Clothes Pins in the Bottle". It was played with a clean milk bottle and old fashion wooden peg clothes pins (not the type with the metal spring and two pieces of wood). You put the bottle between your feet, stool up straight, eyed it up the best you could, and drop the pin from above your waistline. The one to get the most clothes pins in the bottle was the winner.

Here's an idea with the long thin clear bottles I think you call them shear top bottles. You could make a standing floor lamp for the dolls house. Just an idea.

Did I miss the iridescent blue bottle on the round up? Love the tiny tiles! I really like the shape of the stag pottery the way it is - maybe a holder for a smaller candle? Use white vinegar to treat nettle sting, no scratching. We have what we call ,... Bull Nettle’ here in Texas, if stung never scratch the irritation or it will spread and cause infection. Great finds!!!! ❣️

In my home state (in US), I did some mudlarking and found mostly bottles (though I did find a greyhound figurine buried in my yard!). You have to know where to look and most public places don’t have quite the amount of treasures. Love the tiny bottles and the rainbow one! I think my favorite was the cat/deer head. 💜

The large black button would look good in the dolls house either hanging on the wall with Bits's portrait in it. Or In the kitchen as a serving tray or fruit bowl.

Two lovely ladies who never fail to make a cloudy day here as bright as that glass in the sunshine. I will go with those tiny tiles as my favorite from this trip. I can't imagine the hours it would have taken to lay out an image of any size with those little things, not to mention it must take quite some effort manufacturing and coloring them all. Fun video and great finds. Your blue 'wave' piece of glass could be a dolphin..put a Blue glass fin and tail on..make into a pendant. After all that walking, I would have taken lots of river glass. Thanks for sharing your adventure.🇨🇦

That tiny bovril is so cute it must go in the dolls houseand the piece of red white and blue striped glass must be for the Queens Jubilee. Smashing finds and an interesting bead. The few Milk Bottles I have found, I put White Bristol Board Inside of them, it makes the Words much easier to read and it looks like a full Bottle of Milk. Love the vid!

Sunny never fails to make me laugh, he’s such a cutie. The broken Stein with the embossed stag on it maybe it could be used in the dolls house at Christmas if it was made into a pot to put a Christmas tree in because we all seem to have stags on things at Christmas and you could put some of those lovely little glass beads as baubles and a hundred other tiny things as tree ornaments. (It’s never to early to start Christmas crafting!) 🎄🤶🏻

In Mangawai Heads NZ, there is a little island/sand bar off the coast where we as kids used to find perfect little sea shells each with a single tiny hole in the centre. We gathered many of them and strung them for necklaces, and in other parts of our country we found axe heads that was the closest I have ever been to mudlarking here. I think what you find is fascinating, it really drives home to me the history of your beautiful country.

There was something quite special about this explore. I love the little tiles and I'd be over the moon to find railway company china! I really would like to find a milk bottle like that too. So sweet whenever Kate smiles at the camera after finding treasure 😂 That stripey glass is fantastic too. The "SR" would be lovely cut out with that fab font. I keep adding to this comment, but I found a piece of an old Schweppes skittle today and the signs of a dump to look into at some point 😬

Could you perhaps use the deer as a stamp? And, wouldn't the pink tile be a wonderful "keystone" tile in your fireplace surround? Can't wait to see what you do with them!!
