Our wedding video is online! Finally! Just 9 months too late.. haha. This video is made as a memory for ourselves, but definitely also for you to enjoy! And maybe for the few people in India who also want to get married in Triyuginarayan and want to see what it’s like. We did not hire a camera man during our wedding, so it was quite a task to create a nicely flowing video out of the footage shot on different phones and cameras in different qualities. But I hope you enjoy it nevertheless!
Pawan is a Nepali, born in India, and Marloes is from the Netherlands, so this wedding was inter-caste, inter-religion and even inter-continental. But despite all these difficulties, convincing Pawan's family of our wish to get married and keeping it small went quite smooth. Marloes got a warm welcome in Pawan's family and even though lots of compromises had to be made from both sides, everyone thoroughly enjoyed the wedding!
How we arranged our wedding at Triyuginarayan:
Years ago, we found out about a beautiful temple in the Himalayas where according to mythology, Shiva and Parvati got married, and is open for anyone wishing to get married there. It looked so beautiful and serene and we both loved the symbolism, so we decided that we wanted to get married there! When we searched on the internet about the possibility of getting married at Triyuginarayan, we only found organizations and wedding planners offering the whole wedding package. However, we wanted to get married on a budget and we wanted to keep it simple, so Pawan searched the net and via via he found the phone number of one the priests of the temple. The priest arranged a very simple basic place (homestay) for us to stay, which was for us more than sufficient (we did ask for clean bedsheets). We ate all our meals in the simple dhaba below the homestay, where they served pahadi style food. On auspicious days, there are continuously people getting married in the temple and they have a smooth system to make sure everyone gets their turn, it does not feel overly crowded. We actually had to hurry a bit after we arrived and ate our late lunch. The homestay including food costed us about 10,000 rupees for one night for 10 people. Our cost was about 15,000 rupees for the temple contribution, the priest, arrangements and some items needed during the rituals. However note that prices are likely to increase over time!
