I'm 50 years old and have a Masters Degree in Military History yet I still have nightmares about being in high school and not have my homework or didn't study for a test or the worst nightmare is being in school and not knowing where my classes are or my locker.

Kid reads Lord of the flies once and thinks it's a damned instruction manel. Most kids are little psychopaths until later in highschool and some don't start to chill out until their mid-twenties.

At 59 this is why im glad I'm long done with school. Got a G.E.D at 17 with above average score to join the Army at 17 and did the 12th grade in 3 months by mail to my old H.S. Because to make Sergeant in the early 80s you needed an actual diploma, so I got it and my tassel a year late but I have a G.E.D, H.S diploma and a literal stack of Army training dipolmas and Honorable discharge. Every award comes with a certificate allowing you to wear the ribbon or medal. School in the 70s was great!😂

Playing Game Boy and Castlevania obviously says the author is in their 40's or a little older. My favorite was Tetris on Game Boy ! I was a rookie police officer working Loss Prevention part time in the evening and mostly played Tetris on a Game Boy we borrowed from the electronics department in the Sears Department Store we worked at. One person watched the cameras and the other played.

That was a cool gig My son did guard duty with a friend of ours Who was a cop and that was his part time gig. Where they were at people would just drive up and steal stuff on sidewalk. they carried weapons. But while they were there no one did bad stuff Both big guys and very intimidating. Wish they could have done that..what u did... instead They were both volunteers at rescue squad 😅 Miss those days He was still my baby then... 😅married and moved half way across the country .where his wife is from. I wish it was longer, there wasn’t a lot of build up, and there’s no way a kid is impaling and adult with a sharpened yardstick. And what about the parents. No way they would leave their kids like.

I never had to contend with snow days because I grew up in the Valley of the Sun (aka the Phoenix metropolitan area in Arizona). If it ever snows, it's very light, and for a very short duration. The story does make me think, though... ...If I was in that position... well I've always been a mother hen type, and thinking of my own school I knew a lot of the backways and hallways only teachers usually used (teachers tended to trust me so I helped them out with stuff that used these hallways). Assuming we were stuck in the gymnasium/lunch room, which was the largest single structure as our school consisted of a number of disconnected buildings, we'd also have access to the nurse's office, the music room, the gym storeroom, the kitchen, and also the administrative offices (I don't know why these specific things were connected, but they were). I'm pretty sure there was a janitor's closet in the gym as well, and very likely a flashlight which we could use when the lights went out. If I had my best friends with me, they'd probably be looking to me for ideas because I had a reputation for *knowing things.* I'd have us grabbing the gym mats down for comfy places to sit, getting blankets from the nurse's office, commandeering musical instruments (which we only got to do once a week normally, so that'd be a treat) or P.E. games to entertain the little ones and keep their minds off the storm. I don't know if we could prep food beyond P.B.J. at that age, but as long as we could get into the kitchen, there were plenty of foods which needed no preparation (usually salad bar fare), not to mention the milk bags. We could certainly keep all the children well fed. Additionally, if I encountered a "Preston," well I've never reacted well to bullies, and I know of a number of pieces of equipment in the gym storeroom which could be used to neutralize him. Wrap that boy up into a technicolored parachute burrito! I guess I've always been more "Swiss Family Robinson" than "Lord of the Flies." :) Not so much of a thrilling story, I guess :/ Edit: Just realized that my mother is the kind of woman who would walk through a blizzard to get to the school if she thought her child was in trouble. She'd definitely call in the cavalry to dig us out (the cavalry being every neighbor she could summon while trudging to the school, if the phonelines were down).

School does strange things to some kids. Seen it happen. Given responsibility, some become tyrants. Left to their own devices, they just do stupid sh*t. Glad I stayed out of all that stuff. I only had to tolerate the bullying. Never had many friends, and I found the caliber of those in due course, when the going got tough, they'd bail. I was once called over-mature by one of those people. I decided to take that as a back-handed compliment. School was prison, except we got to go home at the end of the day. I walked the yard a lot. I still dream about it. Rarely good dreams.

So Preston is supposed to be the blonde kid from LOTF who leads the feral anarchist group, and the protagonist is supposed to be the Protagonist from LOTF who tries to retain law and order as the leader of the faction who focus on safety, survival, and escape? Those two are the only survivors in the end if I'm not mistaken. I think by the time they get rescued, it's just the protagonist and antagonist who survive in LOTF, but I haven't seen or read that since grade 2. I remember more and more kids end up joining the pig tribe, only to be murdered one by one until only a few kids are left standing, including the leaders of both factions. I wonder if this story is going to be similar in tone. They already set it up that way.
@Bluesit32
@Bluesit32 Месяц назад
Nah, there were a few survivors. I think only two kids died. Simon and Piggsy.
@Shadowstar1311
@Shadowstar1311 Месяц назад
@@Bluesit32 yeah I remember Piggsy got his head crushed by a rock. I don't remember how Simon died, but I think it was also through violence. I remember more deaths though. I remember the film, not the book, so maybe they are different? Either that or I'm misremembering.

@@Shadowstar1311 Speared, I think. He found out what "the beast" actually was but was killed before he could tell anyone.
@Shadowstar1311
@Shadowstar1311 Месяц назад
Yeah, my prediction was on the right track. It was LOTF in an empty school, and preston was the stand in for the leader of the pig tribe. There's just no way throwing a sharpened meter stick would be as powerful as a battle spear, and no way an elementary school kid could shrow it hard enough and accurately enough anyway. If he had gone up to people and stabbed them, it would even be difficult for such a young kid. It sucks that the janitor died, but at least fhe murderer was fhe only kid to die. Oh, and RIP Justin's Gameboy. A great concept, a cleaver set up, interesting characters, and by making most of the characters children, the stakes get a lot higher. I do find it hard to believe that Tristan would resort to murdering the janitor that quickly. If they had been stranded for days, or weeks, maybe a month, the school was out of food, cannibalism was already starting to happen, and the younger kids had become savage under Tristans Luciferian philosophy for leadership, it would make sense that Tristan would be a tyrant who killed anyone who got in the way of his tyrannical regime of feral children. But they were only there for less than 24 hours. So I'm not sure. I guess the story is that Tristan was evil and tyrannical the entire time, capable of murder the entire time, and this situation had merely triggered the inevitable. It's still a good analogy about those who reign in terror end up dying from their own brutal actions, but with kids in a school instead of a dictator in a huge country.

What the flock? What psychos make preteens read something like Lord of the Flies?! I didn't have to read it until high school, but was given a pass on it when I couldn't get past the scene where piggy got murdered. Graphic horror movies? Didn't phase me in the slightest. That super graphically described scene in the book? That sh$@ for some reason broke me. (Damb my over active imagination!) Making kids that are still learning boundries and proper behavior in society let alone parents keeping them from R+ movies shouldn't be reading it. Otherwise you're only giving ammonition to sociopathic monsters like this that have no ethics due to spoiled entitlement. RIP Mr Janitor that was a victim of poor schooling & parenting. 😢😢😢 Well done Jordan. I will never look at the education system the same ever again. LOL ❤😮
