We Got THAT Look - Severe Autism In Public

We got THAT look...you know the one. The understanding smile of someone that's familiar with the life of a special needs family or someone that has been there themselves. I appreciate that look. Conquering the post office! It's always been iffy whether or not Abigail would be succesful at the post office or any other enviornment with unfamiliar sensory input, crowds of staring people. Severe autism in public is a real challenge. Will Abigail draw attention by her actions? Will she have a hard time and not be able to handle the eniornment? We really never know and when we try to guess she usually surprises us...that's why we keep going. Every time it gets better.

Working at walmart i often get customers with special needs children and i can tell they get less nervous at the register when i let them know we’re an autism family aswell 💗

That is so sweet! Walmart is always my struggle because when we checkout and I am coaching my son to stay close or put something on the register and we get the cashier stares of confusion. I know they are wondering why I am treating my 8 yr old very tall son like someone much younger. I feel I always have to say ..he has autism over and over.

Gina Phillips I totally understand. Especially with teens that have autism i make them feel as if they are present when they’re shopping. Its great life skills practice for them. I had a man apologize for his sons stimming. I told him he shouldn’t apologize. I could tell he was excited, no need to rain on his parade lol

@@suyua I've had 'kind' people offer my daughter food etc not realising she doesn't eat and has a mickey button, I know they mean well and can't possibly know, but I always find shopping mortifying, she melts down. People always try to be kind, but my daughter is a wheelchair an that gains alot more understanding.

Omg the look on her face (2:55-ish) when she went ahead and put both arms through, then had to ask for help! So funny! Nobody can say that girl doesn't understand what's going on...she does! And she's got a great sense of humor too. 😍

I don’t have a face to face support person but I have talked with a friend (another dad with two sons with severe autism whom I’ve never met face to face) for nearly a decade. When either of us think we have it bad we share each others’ challenges and the other will try to give a different perspective. Often I feel like he has it worse than I do but that he has more strength than I ever could hope to have.

When she signed help, my heart melted lol she had this "man I should of listened to him" look on her face lol. She really is so smart, she understands so much. I wonder if she ever wonders why everyone else can talk. I know that is random, it's just she understands so much of what your saying and I just wonder what she thinks of everything. I always wonder that lol today my niece was being her usual hyper six...no it's midnight, so seven months old officially 😊...anyway I was just watching my baby niece and wondered what and how she thinks. Not that I'm comparing abbie to my baby niece it's just I had that thought earlier today about her too lol

Such a great trip to the post office! And I am definitely going to be checking out the post on Facebook, Priscilla (I'm really thankful that you are doing that)! We have two girls on the spectrum, hundreds of therapy appointments a year, and since we moved cross country six years ago almost every person I know is somehow related to their care because that's kind of all I've done. We're always out doing things, but making friends became one of those elusively hard things after having kids. You're doing such a wonderful thing! ❤️

And he isn't in school yet because his birthday is after the cut off. I do home school him but he doesn't have the social interaction. But he is high energy, extremely. That’s Awesome for those who have Supportive people in their lives! It’s important to check in with your friends and family every now and then. Speaking from experience just a simple “hey, hope you are doing ok and I’m thinking about ya” is such a huge gesture for those who may be struggling with life at times. Having sooo much support must feel amazing, but we must remember to be supportive back. Treat people the way you would want to be treated.

I love that you mentioned about how important having a friendship is. Now having a 2 year old and 3 month old, and living away from family I only have one friend who I can vent to and the rest are from a mom group I’ve been in for 2 years. Parenting is not easy, and being a step mother is the hardest thing I’ve ever taken on but without my small village I probably would loose my mind! Thank you so much for talking about this subject because I feel it isn’t talked about enough!

Having a friend is so important! Me and my best friend met in a history class in middle school about 6 years ago, and we both found out we were autistic at the same time. Its just so nice to have a friend who understands when i dont reply its because im socially exhausted, bc she does the same sometimes. And we both like to stay in instead of going out like typical college kids, so hanging out is easy. We both just get it. I imagine its the same for parents- everyone just needs a friend haha

Good job Ab! I had a rough week too. Don't worry everyone has better days and worse days! Looks like Abbie had a great day today though!

I would love y'all to make a phone wallet. I basically have to have the life proof case but a cute phone wallet with the puzzle piece I would love to rock!

Hey just a suggestion for easier shipping label placement...there are shipping label sticky pouches you can order on Amazon for that you place the shipping label in & peel off the backing & stick to the package. I sell on poshmark & this was a lifesaver in sticking the labels to the package. Just thought I’d share this info w/ y’all in case you need something easier than taping each label🤗🤗. I hope y’all have a great weekend!!

Hey Asa and Priscilla! I've been watching your channel for a while now and I just adore you guys! I just wanted to let you know that the next possible date that the government could shut down (if Congress doesn't reach a deal) is the 15th of this month. Just wanted to let you know since you were talking about getting your passports renewed. I hope this helps!
