The Newfoundland Hobbyist is a show produced for public television, and you'll notice it follows traditional television formatting. I hope you enjoy the show!

I used to garden potatoes with my German grandpa. Brought back great memories. Loved seeing your family enjoying the process. Great video. Lots of fun.

Two questions: 1) Rather than building frames and hauling dirt, couldn't you just grow them beside the highway like they do around St. Anthony? 2) Don't you need to build a fence to keep the Caribu, Moose, etc., out of the garden?

This is absolutely wonderful. You're experimenting and learning so much. Potatoes and carrots are a wonderful vegetable to grow with children. If they're watered very regularly, they tend to produce even more. Particularly the carrots. They need a lot of water so they grow large. Another fantastic veg for kids is pumpkins and watermelon. They need quite some space but can grow very big. I've also always gotten the same results with Bell peppers. Can never seem to get fruit from them!

I ran a large community garden-urban farm for many years. There's a learning curve to it, often taking years to dial in the plants that grow well. Regarding the peppers, they love heat and produce best in heat. It's possible your climate may not be warm enough long enough. You might try buying a variety of pepper plants at a nursery next spring and plant them side by side. Take note of which produce and which don't.

I simply love your lifestyle Kyle!! Teaching your little ones how to do those projects is so important and is lost, at least where I’m from. Simply great!

Next time put cardboard down on the grass, you will find the grass/weeds will find their way thru. And in addition to killing the grass it will help amend the soil.

Where did you find that father-in-law? Probably by going to university. Who says higher education is a waste of time?

The peppers are very sensitive to soil ph., also never let frost ruin your tomato harvest. Pick them as soon as they have any color change or even green. With the green ones you can slice, batter dip and fry them for a wonderful tasting treat, or you can individually wrap them in newspapers and loosely place them in half full large brown paper shopping bags with the Top rolled down, then place them in a dark dry cool(not freezing) place for a couple few months and they will be perfectly ripe when enough time has passed. The ones that have had a little color from the vine can be ripened on the kitchen counter where they get sun through the windows. Enjoy.

There is nothing more satisfying than vegetable gardening when your grand children are wandering about and consuming the harvest even before it gets inside….LOL. Great video.

If the tomatoes are big enough you can pick them green , lay them is flat box and cover with newspaper put them under your bed .

You might want to check this, but I believe carrots have to be separated and replanted at a certain stage to grow to their full size, wow the children have grown

Interested to know what variety of pepper you planted and was it from a local store. Peppers are slow but usually produce.

Kyle, the pepper plants might not be getting pollinated being inside the greenhouse. You might try a couple of plants in your raised bed so that the insects can pollinate the blooms. Also you can start the seeds early in egg cartons or plastic cups and have them ready for when the frost is over in your area.

Oh wow Kyle, those beautiful girls are the stars of the show. They are being taught such valuable life lessons and at the same time awesome time spent bonding with you and your wife . As they grow they will appreciate their parents so much because of these memories . Just so beautiful to watch . I spent a ton of time with my mother in her garden and I miss it so much but I will never forget the lessons I learned !! Just awesome Kyle. Made my day ❤️
