We had to divert. Fly through icing to an epic gravel runway in the mountains, but nothing makes up for a lack of radar and weather reporting in the backcountry when things don't go as forecast.
AOPA’s Pilot Protection Services knows that your pilot and medical certificates mean everything to you, and that’s why their trusted Legal Services Plan attorneys and medical certification specialists are there to help protect you when things don’t go as planned. The best thing to do when hiking in bear country is to wear bells or use whistles so you don't walk up on them by surprise. Also you can look for droppings to see what kind of bears are near-by. Black bear droppings have leaves and berries - grizzly bear droppings have bells and whistles!

" moose won't actually chase you " That's a MYTH ! My mom and i were chased by a cow moose around an electrical box for 35 min , the thing had murder in it's eyes and we barley managed to get away . This happens all the time . Being born and raised in the bush i have personally seen several people get chased more by moose than by bears .

discretion the better part of valor. Working with what information you have...weather, etc...diverting is a great choice, even if you have a lot of gas. For a young man, great piloting and SA skills. BTW...much easier to fly around Canada and Alaska in a USAF C-130, but certainly not as much fun as you are having. Keep the videos coming and would love more comments on the avionics you have in your Bonanza.

What is the Service Ceiling of a Moose? I would think at above 10 feet AGL you would be pretty safe from them. Bears can climb but not without some kind of structure. So there's that. Just the same, as you watch for other aircraft, sweep the sky for wildlife. Try to get out a Pirep if you have an airborne encounter. 🤣

You live in Canada long enough, you get used to the CADORS about moose on the runway, and wildlife in the vicinity of the runway/taxiway. On my Checkride, we were doing a precautionary landing procedure on a grass strip. My FIC on the preflight stated that she "might tell me to land, or might be an overshoot". When I confirmed on the downwind pass what she said, she asked why? I told her "Because there's two bull moose on the runway right now".

KFC 200 A/P. The switch on the button panel (KC-290) is held by an electromagnet in engaged position. There is a little piece of steel in that switch that sometimes dislodges and consequently the rocker switch will not stay latched ON. I would check this first as it may be a likely culprit (assuming that the A/P passes self-test with 4-5 blinks and beeps).

OMG an autopilot failure LOL I dunno aviation has turned into a soy boy game I guess, retired old grumpy pilot here (55) years accident incident free, flown trips many times back in the 70's with inop autopilots on heavies, for us old timers it was no big deal and some of the older guys I knew (WW2 Guys) would comment when I told them we had an inop placarded autopilot "no big deal at least they are not shooting at us"

I remember doing my twin rating. While waiting to enter the runway, my instructor was going through engine failures during taxi, roll and take off, etc. He said “if we lose an engine now, we abort the flight. Strange how single pilots would still take off on one motor”.
