Hi James, although the idea of a td5 engine sounds good I’m with Mike best leave it alone you will open yourself up to a world of pain trying to swap it over and to be fair the ford 1.8 diesel engines are pretty much bulletproof as long as you change the cam belt at the right intervals.you have some interesting projects about and I love Mikes positivity.👍

It's not just the cam belts on the 1.8 it's the cam shaft too! Prone to snapping

Hi James, got some projects going on there, Looking at that Ford diesel engine that would be an early 1.6 D that first came out in 1984 fitted to the Mk2 Fiesta and MK3 Escort and Orion I think it was about 1988/89 it was up graded to a 1.8 D. good idea to drop a Landy engine in if it had Land Rover running gear a TD4 or TD5 would be good for it or a Ford Transit Diesel engine.
