That might be because she has three brothers she grew up with .She learned to be tough ,focused deadly from the 3 point line .Also she didn't have girls teams to play on in grade school ,so she played on the boys team ,being more physical than girls ,she learned good skills while developing a toughness girl teams don't quite have !

Plum and Woodard finished their scoring records in 139 games. Clark broke Plum's record in 126 games, and Caitlin will never play 139 games in college ball yet will also break Woodard's scoring record, baring injury. GOAT.

Nice point, just one small, possible correction: Clark does have a chance to play 139 games, if Iowa makes it to the Big 10 tourney final and then gets to another NCAA championship game, as they did last year. Gonna be very tough, but never say never.

Sabrina is more catch and shoot, she’s a scorer and she gets her teammates involved, Caitlin is on a whole other level, like Steph she can control the ball, create space from one or two defenders, pull up from the three, the logo, wherever. And make a good percentage of them so the coaching staff and her teammates won’t get mad. If she can do this in the WNBA she will be what that league needs, surround her with talent and forget about it, maybe team her up with Sabrina, the Splash Sisters, they would televise their games on TNT.

@@justinholland6132 I don't think that was "sexist" at all. One of the big differences in CC's game is that she's brought an NBA (Steph, Reggie Miller, etc) shooting form to women's hoops, allowing her to hit those long shots. Before Caitlin, most outside shooting in women's hoops tended to be the little bunny-hop, 1" vertical variety. Plus, she plays an aggressive, athletic game, a rocket arm in her passing, plus the speed, the handles, the rebounds, the court vision, etc. So yeah.. she plays like not just a "dude", but like the best "dudes". Clark scores 1.422 points per attempt. Ionescu scored 1.285. Clark's taking my shots. If the coach had told Ionescu to take 6 more shots per game, her efficiency would have suffered. What people seem not to understand is that it's much easier to score efficiently if you take fewer shots. If I was coaching the opposing team I'd be much less likely to focus my entire defense on one player even if they're scoring 19 points a game because there are other players on that team that are scoring 15 and 14 and 12 that can take up the slack. Clark draws the intense focus of every team's defense in every situation in every game. Every single offensive possession. One important stat that many are missing is that Clark is 56% from 2pt over her career and Ionescu was 48%. Clark's 3pt shooting is only half of her story. Look, I'm not downplaying Ionescu's greatness, she is truly great, but she was simply not the player that Clark is, and the points ARE important. As far as winning National Championships is concerned, Iowa isn't going to win it this year, but Larry Bird didn't have any NCAA championships either. Neither did Maravich. Neither did Wilt. Taking sex into consideration (and that's a big consideration I admit), she is the best college basketball player in modern basketball history. Mens and Womens. There are other players that were great, but they weren't like her.
@darchon5
@darchon5 3 месяца назад
Very insightful post and tremendously underrated point about shot efficiency naturally going down with volume, especially when one is the main focus of a D. Ionescu at Oregon had much more talented teammates around her than Clark has had, to be able to take the scoring load off of her. And I will add that when comparing Ionescu's 26 triple doubles (1st all-time) to Clark's 15 (2nd all-time), we see that in fact the triple double can be a somewhat overrated, arbitrary metric because when comparing their career averages, Clark's 7.0 rebounds and 8.1 assists are certainly on par with Ionescu's 7.3 and 7.7 assists, respectively. And obviously that's besides the fact that Clark's ppg is 10 above Ionescu's, which is even more impressive when considering that only one other of the top 9 all-time in triple doubles (those with 6+) barely even averaged 20 ppg!

@neoisis9373
@neoisis9373 3 месяца назад
I think the NCAA ought to incorporate the pre- NCAA, pre 1982 stats into their regular stats. Caitlin will likely break that record too soon barring injury, but Woodard deserves to be recognized. Though you are also right that Woodard played at a time when it was harder to score as much with no 3 point line or shot clock. But there’s no real way to quantify that. So the record just has to be who scores the most points even though it’s not a perfect comparison. But right now Woodard is the leading scorer in D1 women’s college basketball and her name should be known. Even Clark’s coach agreed with a reporter that the pre-NCAA records should be incorporated at a recent press conference (don’t recall which game it was after. It was before Clark broke the NCAA record. )
@darchon5
@darchon5 3 месяца назад
I agree with everyone in this thread so far: Woodard absolutely should be recognized as the all-time scoring leader until Clark passes her. However, while quite valid to point out no-shot-clock or 3-pt line back then, it should be noted that if Clark did not have a 3-pt line, then she would certainly be going to the FT line a lot more, with her 85.7% FTs (vs Woodard's 68.1%), and also Clark's 2-pt FG% of 55.5% (vs Woodard's 52.5%) is way higher than her career 46.8% FGs (EDIT: spelling).

"Records are made to be broken". True; but I would be shocked, gobsmacked, stunned and enraptured if anyone comes along to eclipse CC''s total points while ALSO reaching 1100+ assists and nearly 1000 rebounds. Cuz that's just so insanely far from what anyone has ever accomplished on any level in basketball that it feels nuts to suggest it will happen.

Traveling = having FULL control of ball in right hand, then taking 2 full steps before shooting. Why not hop to a new place like a kangaroo? In one of these it’s 3 steps. This is a ‘STEPBACK’? Giannis does the Euro 3 step, so why not. We got 1 1/2 steps in the 80s and before. If the ball was rotating on its own with your fingers touching, OK, because a defender can slap it away. Still, A. She disguises it well. B. She’s a great shooter. I might win sometimes if we played HORSE vs OX.

So people here are saying that Clark isn't better than any man? So, is a man better than any woman? Aren't there " Men" playing women's sports? People who comment have no clue what you are saying! If Clark had the players that Taurasi had at UCONN. It would be a different story! Clark doesn't take 30 shots every game! People think she's a ball hog, well if anybody watched Iowa basketball you would know that Caitlin doesn't have much of a supporting cast. She makes her team better. Meaning that she can shoot, she can rebound, she's the all time leader in assists. Defense could be better, yes. But, look at the NBA All-Star 202 points by one team! Come on now! What a JOKE! Clark shouldn't even give the WNBA lesbian league a first or second look! She should play one more year at Iowa then go play in Europe. Tougher competition! Plus, the WNBA is nothing but Lesbians, that are jealous and bullies! Ask former WNBA players who are Straight that have said, the Lesbians are jealous and don't like straight women playing. But, they would sure bitch if a Trans man wanted to play wouldn't they? I'm not Clark. She is an Adult, she has a great family, a great support system. Whatever she decides I hope she proves all the HATERS wrong!!

Has anyone been to a wnba game? I got free tickets & went to one and it was actually painful. One pass hit a ref in the back of the head (that was the nights highlight) but the rest of the game was slow, clumsy and missed layups. @darchon5
@darchon5 3 месяца назад
Since you mentioned Pete's 3 yr record is "going to stand for a while", it should be mentioned that it is because his dad as the coach directed him to a 38.1 shots/game career average, which will probably never happen anywhere else again and is as unique a situation as his 44.2 ppg was. So this means Pete actually took substantially more shots in his 83 games in 3 yrs with 3,166 than Clark has in her 126 games in 4 yrs with 2,503. Still a remarkable record for Pete, but I do wonder how Clark would fare with that amount of shots vs her 19.9.

@@darchon5 to get his numbers he had to shoot that much there wasn’t a three point line at that time. Which makes his numbers even more impressive. @@Bam_Bam_Bam_Bam Chill, I already said he's remarkable either way. All I did was to add that the reason his pts record in 3 yrs will stand maybe forever is because he did take a ridiculous amount of shots in that time. And it is pretty wild that he had way more shots in 3 yrs than Clark has had in 4, that's just the numbers. But yes, it's absolutely fair to bring up that he had no 3-pt line, and should be brought up.

NCAA really needs to put an asterisk next to all pre-1970 records, because athletics were not integrated before that. PM played on a white-boy team, in a white-boy conference. He didn't have to play talent at the level of today's game. PM's college career wins is barely above .500. People rag on Clark for not winning the big one, hell LSU never qualified.

Tangentially related, Connie Hawkins was going to play for Iowa, was a freshman attending classes (back when freshmen weren't allowed to play varsity) until he somehow got wrapped up in a fixing scandal. He wasn't involved but being a big time player from New York did cross paths with people who were, and his name being in the mouths of criminals was enough to get him in trouble. He lost his scholarship and was blackballed by the NCAA and NBA so ended up playing in the ABA and with the Globetrotters.
