We absolutely love you guys!! I love that you don’t hide the madness of homesteaders, homeschoolers, and beautifully parenting. As Jess says “let the low end drag….” Y’all seem to always keep kids and peace on the upper end and I as a homeschool homestead mama of 7 have learned so much from y’all!!! Thanks a million times over for sharing your lives with the world!
Thank you so much!!! We try to be real people here for sure. It was a dream of homesteading. And I think a lot of people believe that all stress goes away. There is just different stress for sure! But we are so grateful for our marriage, family, and this land that God has given us! Thanks a bunch!!!!
I have no idea what this guy is talking about. He rambles on about not being able to raise pigs with absolutely no clear reason why. Only thing I can guess is he doesnt want to rotate them in pens? Then he continues on about a new channel and video and once again, no clue what hes talking about or eluding to. This was 25 minutes of rambling and nothing being said. wow.
Sorry, I guess I could have done better with giving more specific details that I don’t really know yet. Which is why I haven’t given all of the details. 1) we are no longer going to BREED pigs. We are still going to raise feeders every year. Rotating them is not the problem. It’s keeping them away from our boar is the problem. And it’s not like a huge problem, just something we no longer want to deal with. And also, I do not like the castration process. 2) we are starting a new channel. Heck I’ll go ahead and tell you because we now know a few more details. We experimented with cooking videos here on this channel, and the algorithm/audience didn’t like that drastic of a change. So we are going to create a new channel that is focused on Kelly cooking her home cooked meals. 3) I’ll be creating more videos here on the channel that are about how we are trying to find more on farm streams of income and side hustles to help off set inflation. I sincerely apologize Tbia that I wasn’t clear. I hope that you will give us another chance. All the best.
A forest is a large area of land covered by a dense growth of trees and underbrush. Forests can be found in many different habitats, including wetlands, dry deserts, and other regions that receive enough precipitation
I also like watching your 'ordinary' life - as previous commenting viewer. Always something new to learn. Feeling lifted by your spirit to overcome difficulties. Big thanks.
Survival is always first. Growth is ebb and flow with moments of celebration and moments of loss with continual adjustment and refinement. Rest is necessary and essential to stay for the long haul. Keep up the great work!
Jason and Loraine from Sow the Land have gentle grazing pigs, I can’t remember the breed name. But they maybe a better option for you to manage. Justin Rhodes also does deep bedding. Hopefully this helps😊
With 293K subscribers on this channel alone, you must be getting well rewarded with $ from RU-vid. If only a percentage of those viewers follow your other channels too, you will surely be very well provided for…
I watch another family who lives off the grid, and they are only making a 30 to 45 minute video a week. It used to be 45 minutes to an hour twice a week. We live your lives with you through the channel. Everyday is new and different. Wishing you and the family well, no matter what. ❤
Thank you Janie! Yea we are still trying to figure out all of the details. I think its just that RU-vid likes "niches". And a person usually doesn't subscribe to a channel because of "what they just watched", they subscribe for "what is to come in the future". And for us, we are always just been crazy weird with changing up styles and topics. Which is why we love homesteading! It is niche, but not really. So having more streamlined topics we are hoping will give us the opportunity to reach more people. Fingers crossed, right! haha. Thanks a bunch Janie!!
We honestly haven't. Goats would be perfect for our land....we just aren't interested in goats. Which is weird I know! Just not the animal for us at the moment. Thanks a bunch for the awesome question!
Whatever ya'll post I will watch! I love the whole ball of wax ya'll show, kids, food, animals, struggles and your love of God and your faith! Life isn't easy and Jesus said it wouldn't be. It is ok to be our kind oof weird. Bring it.
^^^100% ^^^ I lost your videos and just stumbled back here. Can’t wait to see what I have been missing. Man, I have missed you guys! I hope you don’t ever permanently quit. I watched an off grid homestead for years, one of the first ever I started watching. I adored their family and the great REAL struggle and success content and then they just disappeared! Gone! It was only suppose to be a break to help with an elderly parents illness and they never came back. It is STILL sad for me, years later. Seems strange for a complete strange they don’t even know. However, on this side of the screen, the viewers are invested in your family. We come to love and care about what is happening to the content creator and their peeps. So we are invested.
Thank you Michael, 100% agree. Yes Amanda, Michael is correct. Jersey mamas can be on the boney side. But trust me, Goldie is eating us almost out of our bank account! 🤣🤣
Yeah, I was going to say the same thing. I've been around milk cows, huge herds of them. They do look a little boney, but this cow is REALLY boney. She's not getting enough to eat. Whenever any species of female is lactating, they need a lot more food to continue producing the milk, otherwise she's pulling nutrients out of her body from the lack of food. Those short ribs should not be protruding like that or her backbone. You need to allow her to eat all the hay she wants, especially if not on pasture.
She has all the hay she wants at all times, and full freedom to grass our entire 7 acres at the moment. And she get grain, alfalfa pellets, protein mineral tub, free choice minerals, and alfalfa hay and square bales of hay every morning and evening.
Whereas, I might not click on a video as specific as, "'how to make yogurt", if it was just a more general, day in the life, kind of title, I would watch because I love your family vlogs. I pray all your needs are met according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus!!!❤❤❤
EXACTLY!!!!!! Yup! And that is why we are doing another 3rd channel!!! 🤣🤣 Because there are 3 different viewers and 3 different passions that we currently have. 1) Telling our farm life = vlogs 2) Shed to House, honestly this is the most views which helps fund the vlogs 🤣 3) Now it is Kelly’s cooking videos. Which have a completely different audience. Yet we have a passion to help people learn how to cook from home. It’s kind of the backbone of the homestead life. FOOOD!!! Haha. Thank you thank you!!!!!!!!! You hit the nail on the head!! 😁😁😁😁😁
We are in south central Texas. We keep KuneKune, 5 yrs in. They are very gentle on our land(very sandy). Each group of 2 female, 1 male are on 1/2 acre and do very well. They are pretty easy to feed (we mix their feed ourselves and grow a lot for them of things that grow easy in the heat of Texas, even forage some of their feed) since they grow slowly and we figured out how to let them live in family units and it’s worked for us. They breed when they are ready and so far so good.
I could really feel the emotion in this video and I'm glad you were open about it. Watching RU-vidrs, a lot of times, it seems as if there are never any financial problems. This time I was able to relate to your season of struggle. Changes, pivoting in content, leading your family, temporary sickness, struggles with the animals, it takes a toll, but God will see you all through. You all are the apple of His eye. :)
I appreciate so much the financial struggle honesty because is normal people without RU-vid income can not just run out and grab a $2000 for a milk. We are struggling to make improvements and get done the next steps.
Its possible. But I haven't gotten much interest yet. So I'd have to do some work. And of course, he is like a puppy. So keeping him has a "pet" for a bit is fine with us. But raising feeder pigs is just so easy. Get 'em in, get 'em OUT! And then you can have more of a seasonal rotation to the homesteading life.
Key words that stuck out for me...off grid, recession proof, seem some stuff related. I don't know what yall got cookin up but I'm game. Supporting yall supports the church. We are all the church. Good luck on your journey!
@BetterTogetherLife Isn't that always the case? I tell people that my goal in life is to be a total embarrassment to my great-grandchildren. I know that I have achieved that with my daughters (ages 40 and almost 45), and with three of the five grandchildren (ages 21,17,and 16). I need to last long enough to plague another generation. 😆😂🤣😅😁
Would love to see more How to’s, inflation proofing, instructional videos that are free of family/personal drama and messy homestead. We have that in our own lives and it’s depressing to take time out of the day to watch it in someone else’s.
I can't do Patreon. Every dollar we make is going towards our own place. I also don't have the memory on my phone for the app. I followed Trinity Vanacre to Skool. There are some decent classrooms there teaching a lot. People can charge for the groups. It could be a resource you might want to look into.
Zero worries! We know that it is not for everyone. I did look into to Skool, but Patreon fit more for what we do. The community aspect there is amazing. But again we aren't leaving RU-vid ever. Thank you so much Keekers!
I’m sure it’s not just the cow. But after kelly had our baby, Georgia, two years ago she developed a crazy histamine response. Sometimes she will sneeze and itch and develop hives out of nowhere. And the cow, amongst other things have been a trigger.
We're in that phase too, how to stay and make it work, lots of bumps, lots of work. I think it's important to know when you need a break/rest so you don't get burnt out...we've been bad at that but the universe forced me recently with a foolish injury lol
Well, I don’t really show the deep parts of of my trees. It’s about 2 acres and opens up a bit in the center where the over story is mature. But deal. I can tell Michael that you are a man of specifics. I can respect that.
You can build your own milk machine WAY cheaper than $2k! My husband built dozens and sold them. Just need a small compressor, a Surge milker and hoses. Look into it
🤣🤣🤣🤣 You are too right again Michael! Usually try to get up around 4:30am to get office work done before the family wakes up. But in this video I was having to sleep in our office with my daughter for the last week as she recovered from the flu or Covid. Or whatever we are calling it these days.
@@BetterTogetherLife 4:30 is a good hour personally I like 4am gives me time to eat before I start with everything by lunch I feel I've accomplished at least two good things!
I don’t understand why so many content creators are doing more than one channel, don’t you need to build up your subscribers on the new channel before getting paid. As much as I enjoy roots and refuge I may have watched her other channel once … it’s not that I don’t enjoy her cooking vlogs, I only have so many hours in a week.
It’s because RU-vid’s algorithm docks you when your regular viewers are not interested in a particular style of video. Take Kelly’s latest “How to Make Yogurt” video here. If so many people pass it up, then next time you log in RU-vid is going to not sure you that channel’s next video. Like you said, “we only have so many hours”. So RU-vid has gotten so good at knowing you better than you know yourself, that it’s only serving you what you want. So as for cooking videos, there is a HUGE audience that only watches cooking. And they will never watch a homesteading video. Not sure if that makes sense or not.
@@BetterTogetherLife It does, now I can see why so many new channels are being suggested as I don’t watch much during the warmer months except on rainy days like today I play catch-up
Yup! You've noticed those new channels also. Which is great for a wide range of diverse voices and "entertainment and education". But when you rely on the income, like us. We have to find other streams of income. But we will always post here! So we thank you very much for giving us your valuable time and for chatting here in the comments. It means more than you know!
Jess is the only one I've watched every thing she's put out. I use her beautiful content to teach as well. I'm not a new gardener or homesteader but I pick and choose. I learned of this family from r n r. I feel likes views may help so I pay while I'm working or whatever
I might have to, good point! The good thing is I finally got off my butt and got them foraging again. Now I gotta do it again and build the next paddock! 🤣🤣 Thanks Michael! I really do appreciate the conversation.
Uncensored animal processing videos that RU-vid won’t allow. Weekly Ask Me Anything Videos where I walk my 7acres, show Patrons what is new on the property, and answer any questions. From homesteading to living in a tiny house. Incredibly cheap consulting. Thank you Michael! I appreciate you giving me the chance to answer a VERY good question. All the best! 👍🏻
I agree, that not invested in any channel to pay, I respect my time and money. There are plenty more channels out there and not at all interested in watching animals being slaughtered… being a vegetarian
Isn’t that great then that we still put out consistent content here on RU-vid? Not really sure what the discussion is. I’d love to learn more. And of course, those processing videos are a smaller part of what we do on Patreon. Feel free to check it out to see, or not. Love that no one forces anyone, to do anything! 😁👍🏻
