One of my new favourite bands. It blows my mind how insanely good they were from 78 - 83 and in a way how overlooked they have been by history. I blame it on their their shift in a poppier direction from the mid 80's. As a result I feel like a lot of serious music listeners have written them off as no more than a hit or miss singles band. Those first 4 albums are masterpieces that transcend the throwaway synth pop genre of the time. I would say they were to Post Punk / experimental electronic music of the early 80s that the Beatles were to Psychedelic Rock of the 60s . They could write the big hits but there was undeniable substance, an experimental edge and a timeless quality to the records they were making.
I often use mythology/religious archetypes and symbolism in my poetry/music. I think there are some beautiful stories and representations we can glean from the stories and characters, regardless of our personal beliefs. Andy pretty much says what I saw when people ask me, "Do you believe in God?" What a lovely mind to have a solid philosophical conversation with.
I couldn't catch what Andy said when he was asked "Would you do a collaboration with another electronic band?"... did he mumbled "We wouldn't" or "We would"??? And clearly he wasn't so comfortable talking about it, was he?
Anyway Mr. Taylor, I see you often interview Andy, how about you interview Paul some other time? :D I prefer Paul to Andy lmao so I'll really love to watch that
As a Catholic it's very hard for me to hear how Andy "debunks" God. I ones heard a quote: ,,The most persistent atheist was once a Christian". To me God is as real as my own parents. - As is Christ himself. Besides, I know something is about to happen. Around the end off the year. Andy WILL BE SHOCKED. As a lot (like billions) of other people. Unfortunately I can't tell what exactly, cause then I will be banned from RU-vid... I'm not mad, I can't be. I'm just a bit sad. He is real, you know..
