I like the idea of stores closed on Sundays. It was like this when I was a child growing up in Virginia. The days were spent with family, resting and relaxing in preparation for the week ahead. Perhaps this would be beneficial in today’s nonstop world. Great video, as always!
The architecture is right out of a storybook. Loved hearing the gorgeous church bells! Wishing you both much happiness, good health, and fun adventures in 2023! 🎉
Happy New Year 🎉 Germany is so beautiful! I've always said I think it's the cleanest country! The sweetest couple ever in a gorgeous homeland. Thank you both so much, it's very much appreciated 😊
@@dorisw5558 Switzerland is the former Germany. Unfortunately we have more and more messies on our streets. Cleanliness everywhere was a former attribute in Germany. 🤔
WOW! What a delightful video! Germany is truly a beautiful country! (especially during the festive season). The architecture is stunning, and the food is so appetizing! I love the sound of bells ringing too (such a pleasant and unusual experience for North Americans like me). Thank you so much for filming parts of your visit home for Christmas. I hope you enjoyed yourselves. Happy New Year!
So beautiful. I love Germany, the old building are stunning, that lovely old world feel in the streets of old towns. And the variety of cafes and cakes are so good. Thank you for sharing your lovely videos. ☺️
I loved living in Germany it’s so beautiful there! My oldest daughter was born in Nurnberg 40 years ago. I lived in Frankfurt, Hanau as a child and as an adult I lived in Nurnberg and Weisbaden. I cried when I left in 1992. I hope one day I will come back to Germany. I loved walking into the small towns and shopping at all the markets. I miss the delicious food and the people and culture. ❤️
Aww, you both looked so forlorn when Joerg had to return to England. Two weeks will go by fast and you'll be together again sitting in your little snug at home. Thank you for taking us with you on your outing. The architecture and timber work on some of the buildings is magnificent! I can only imagine how beautiful it must look in the summer. Happy New Year to you both!
Shops closing on a Wednesday afternoon in England was normal when I was growing up certainly up to and including the 70s. Also a lot of shops closed all day Monday. Definitely no shopping on a Sunday. Most shops were closed by 5pm the rest of the week. I find some small independent shops still choose a Monday or Wednesday to close if they are open less hours. I agree with you. Sunday was like a different day to the rest of the week. Quiet and relaxing. I really miss that.
Hi Kirsten and Joerg, Happy New Year to the both of you, good health and happiness always is wished for you both, I love the architecture in Germany it’s right out of Hans Christian Anderson, so beautiful, thank you for the beautiful video, I want to tell you that when I was young and for many years as I grew up in the UK, the shops closed every Wednesday afternoon, it used to be an English tradition and there were no shops open on a Sunday years ago, of course it’s all changed now, everything is open all the time in the UK as life runs at a faster pace, sometimes it’s nice to slow down and keep the old traditions as Germany has, just my opinion, much love xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx😘❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Lovely video . Many years ago we we also used to shut Wednesday afternoon and all day Sunday in the UK . Sunday used to be a lovely calm day it’s very hectic now . I loved watching you have coffee and cake it brings back memories of when I worked in a bakers shop in Germany the bread and cakes are amazing in Germany in fact when I used to go back to visit my mum and dad in the UK I used to always bring him a loaf of German bread because he loved it .
Belated happy new year wishes to you two! Those centuries-old houses, the church bells, and that amazingly old Porta Nigra - I loved looking at it all. I know how it is to be in one place while your husband has to be in another. I sure missed my husband when in the 1990's he drove from New York to Oklahoma to visit his old high-school pal who really needed his help. When he returned home after two weeks away, I cooked him his favorite meal: Chicken paprikash with spaetzle!
Happy New Year Kirsten & Joerg. Germany is such a beautiful place all the little town's and villages are so clean and beautiful timber frame buildings. And I love hearing the church bells ringing. And yes I miss the Sunday business closing. When I was a child here in the US everything was closed and everything was about family. Cheers Ron
Trier is one of many places in Germany that I have wanted to visit again. Thank you for the wonderful trip down memory lane and may many blessings flow abundantly to you both and your families this New Year!
10:07 In my area of the US, when I was growing up, stores (shops) closed on Wednesday afternoons so workers who had worked on Saturday could have time off.
Thank you both so much for your very informative history of beautiful homes and villages I sense your pride and Joy in your birthright Country of Germany 🇩🇪 Hopefully one day I shall visit as one of my relatives married A German Lady from Düsseldorf . Also love ❤your respect and ❤ love for each other in friendship and matters of the Heart. Mary Canada 🇨🇦
Wishing you both very good things for 2023 from the UK. Thank you for all your videos, really enjoy seeing all the great places you visit and the things you enjoy buying. Your house looks magnificent and I like you classy taste. You've also inspired me to visit much more of the UK. Look forward to your future videos. xx
Interesting...I live in Bavaria and I never heard of this Wednesday closings thing. You video was lovely, thank You and have a wonderful, healthy year.
@Kirsten & Joerg: 2 Germans in Britain Thank You for your reply. I live in Munich, of course here it's different but I used to live in a very small town for a short amount of time...in Oberbayern and their the shops were completely open on Wednesday. Maybe it's a regional thing? ...
Happy New Year ! Thanks for sharing such a beautiful view of Germany. As an American, I am pleasantly surprised at how many store names I can understand. 😊 Maybe we won't be as lost as I was thinking when we visit.
Lovely places shown by a lovely couple... so nice to watch your videos! I too think that keeping stores closed on a Sunday is good for society... forces you to slow down and spend more time with family and friends. I wish they still did that here in New Jersey. I wish you both a very happy and healthy New Year!
A very happy and healthy New Year dear Kirsten and Joerg! Looking forward to many more adventures with you both in your wonderful videos! The architecture of the buildings where you were visiting in Germany is so charming! Those cakes you enjoyed looked SO delicious! Safe travels back to your second home in the UK !! 🇩🇪 🇬🇧 ❤❤😊
Happy New Year to you both!! I love the old buildings and shops you show us and the cafe’s which the cakes or pastries look divine. Thank you for sharing.
One word about the architecture: amazing, especially the vakwerk house's. By the way. Verry happy new jear to the both of you. The boomkoek ( three cake ) looks really like trunks on the side. Germany has beautiful places and yet so different from England. Loved it. Greetings 💟🌷🇾🇪
Happy and healthy New Year to my favorite RU-vid Couple content creator 💕 A treat when your broadcasts are shared... Maybe my only chance to "travel" with you 🍷🍷range? P.S. Admiring your cute beret in different colors. Plus I enjoy the efficiency of Frankfurt Airport and prefer flying Lufthansa Air over British Airways.
I love the trips you and Jorge take, I get the opportunity to visit these most spectacular countries and quaint villages that are left untouched just amazing. I hope you and Jorge and parents had blessed and joyous time. Take Care and 😊always stay as chipper as you are. Karen
@@KirstenJoerg I'm so glad to hear that. Did you get to visit Cape Town? We flew via Egypt, this past December, en route to the Netherlands and I actually thought of you.
Thankyou both for a beautiful tour of your incredible German towns. Happy days to you two sweet people and safe travels. Love and cheer from Sally in Oz 🍰🥂🍰📯
I saw a sign over a shop saying “La Donoturia.” Is that by any chance a donut shop in Trier? I love old weathered buildings! But maybe I have donuts on my mind tonight?
You two always brighten my day with your videos. Happy New Year. What a great video. The cakes looked delicious. Your reunion in two weeks will be special. Safe travels Joerg.
Another lovely video. Thank you for taking us along with you. Beautiful cities! I love to see what you find to eat. It all looks delicious. I am glad you are enjoying your family. Happy New Year to you both. 🎊 🎉
Happy New Years 🥳🎉 I love the buildings but most of all the beautiful bakeries!! Such delicious looking cakes!!! Thank you for sharing your beautiful home country with us.
LG Fiona
The UK used to be closed on Sundays when I was younger, we also had half day closing and in most towns that was a Wednesday. Happy New Year to you both.
The structures/buildings are so ornate with all of the detail. The fountain was quite elegant, such beauty everywhere! Of course the treats you had at the local cafes look yummy! XO
Happy New Year to you both! I would love to visit Germany one day, the architecture is so pretty! Shops used to close Wednesdays in England, or some would shut in the afternoons on a Wednesday. We are now finding some smaller shops are closing on Mondays here (seems to be since covid). Shops also used to be closed Sundays here in England too. I hate how there isn’t a single day now when everyone is quiet at home.
Happy New Year Kirsten and Joerg. So lovely to come along with you to beautiful Germany. I love the pretty market towns, and the architecture is so storybook perfect..it is definitely hard to leave home for home..I love visiting the U.K. and seeing my mum and all the family, it’s not often though but I do miss my family back in the US who can not always visit with me..but glad Germany is not too far from the U.K. and those little and often visits make a big difference.. enjoy
Happy New Year!!! 🎉 In Japanese, 明けましておめでとうございます!🎊 Wishing you both such a beautiful year ahead! Again, Germany is such a gorgeous place - it really, really is. And the Porta Nigra…seeing that in person must have been incredible! 🤩 Thank you for another wonderful video! I’m so very much looking forward to your adventures this year , too! Hope Joerg had a safe, comfortable flight, and that you will, too, Kirsten!
Happy and a blessed New Year to both of you. Thanks for taking me to Beautiful Germany. Love the old buildings, the History,. Etc. Great way to stare the New Year.
Yours is my favorite channel to watch…it’s fun, peaceful, relaxing, fun, informative and filled with such beauty. Thank you so much for all you share with us.
I was so hoping you would share your trip to Germany this Christmas season. I'm smiling so happily now while watching. It looks like you both are having so much fun being back home after Covid. Home will always be home no matter how long you may be gone. Thank you and Happy New Year as well.
WOW, I just stumbled across your channel and I clearly did not expect to see you touring the city I'd love to swap for some place in the UK as soon as possible! We still aren't sure about a specific place/city as we just love so many of them but it's certain to say that Germany is no longer (well, it never really has been) the place to be for me. Let's see what the future holds for us!🤞🏼 Liebe Grüße aus Trier x
Beautiful old cities ❤ God Bless Europe and the world, so much beauty. I remember the Haribo Cola gummi 🍾 as a child in Frankfurt also Kinder Schokolade 🍫 Thank you for taking us to Germany ❤ Wishing you a Safe, Healthy and Joyous New Year 2023 🎆🎆🎆
That was just lovely.. I have never been to Germany but getting a real feel for it because of your videos..Happy New Year to you both.. So sorry you have to be apart for those couple of weeks, but like you said absence makes the heart grow fonder and it will go by fast!! Thank you so much for taking us along to Germany..
