This episode made me cry. I resigned after teaching 6th grade science for 3 years because I was so burnt out. This episode reminded me of the parts I absolutely loved. Tell talking about how he realized what he was actually doing was social work makes me think that maybe I need to explore that option as well! 💕
@Fee-Fee
@Fee-Fee Год назад
Do it! You have insight many others do not. Being a social worker is full of burn out workers. I think that learning the political crap and human growth and development will help you understand what caused you to burn out. It will make you understand what and why things were handled the way it was in the city and state you are in. I say go for it or get your masters in social work and become a college teacher or therapist. Actually you will have many jobs to choose from with a master’s. Last, if you can speak Spanish well you can be paid as much as a man. Look into it. You obviously care about people because neither job pays as much as it should. Be blessed.

Oh my goodness, you poor thing! I thought science was supposed to be fun, especially sixth grade science. Are they still dissecting frogs? Probably not. What burnt you out sweetie? Was it the seven hour workdays or the nine month work year? Or could you not tolerate never having to work nights, weekends, or holidays? Or were you thoroughly disgusted by having the same exact vacation schedule as a six year old? You won't like being a social worker for a number of reasons. For starters, you'll have to work year round. And there are no winter and spring "breaks." And if you think school administrators are bad, just wait until you meet the "brain trust" down at Social Services HQ.
@justmaggs
@justmaggs Год назад
@zep head wow.. kinda rude there. You've obviously never been a teacher. When do you think we lesson plan, grade papers, etc.? During the school day? No... those were my nights and weekends sweetie. We also spend a majority of our summer preparing for the next year. Hold your tongue if you know nothing about what you're speaking on.

When I was in school, the same teacher taught most the history classes. He was obsessed with Abraham Lincoln. I mean like had a life sized cut out, posters, figurine, loved it. Great teacher that loved history. My mother owned an antique shop and throughout the years we'd gift antique, original Lincoln items. A statue bust, the voting button/pin thing, a piggy bank. He cried a couple times when receiving them. Now, friends kids are in his class and he still has all of them in his room on display.

This episode made me nostalgic for being in the classroom around kids. I took a break after COVID hit because it became overwhelming. But being the hypeman and helping the kids to succeed along with building the relationships with each kid was definitely my favorite part of working with them. Seeing the pride that they have or their curiosity bloom as they discover their abilities was by far one of my favorite parts of being in the classroom.

I remember in 7th grade my mom got diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and I wasn't able to go to the winter ball or whatever they called the dance then and one of the student teachers took me out of school for the day they obviously got permission took me shopping bought me a dress shoes got my nails done and everything all out of her own money and the school excused the tardy because I was brought back after because they understood the situation. And I'll never forget how happy and thankful I was and I remembered seeing that student teacher when I was getting ready to go to my brother's graduation and she was a science teacher then and I asked her if she remembered me and she did and it was just a really heartwarming moment

I am a Headstart teacher and I'd have to say my favourite thing is when I see my students or previous students outside of the classroom, which happens quite often because I live in a relatively small city, and their faces light up to see me at the store or at the park with my daughter, and it just makes me happy to see them happy to see me. I also love greeting them at the door and getting hugs or high fives, and I love when they draw me pictures and when they want to sit by me on the circle time rug when my co-teacher is doing circle time, and I love the times when I'm doing circle and I can see that the kids are really getting into it and are getting involved and participating in storytime. It makes my heart happy when I can see the kids really enjoy learning!

The holidays are definitely a top benefit of being a teacher. No, it's not three months off the way the public imagines, but it's so nice to have a couple of weeks to regroup and travel or get stuff done. Also, I'm someone who came to teaching as second career. It was always a nightmare trying to get time off in the corporate world, especially around the holidays. Now that I'm a teacher, I don't have to worry about getting enough time off for Christmas. It's great.

If you haven’t already, can you guys talk about what you think about some schools bringing back teachers being allowed to use physical punishment to correct student behavior? I just heard about it happening in Missouri, and I was stunned. I feel like it’s more of an illusion of giving teachers support, instead giving them the actual support they’re asking for. It’s a quick fix
@onemercilessming1342
@onemercilessming1342 Год назад
It's not a fix at all. Part of teacher training involves cognitive development and classroom management, including how to handle disruptive students. There are 3x a teacher can put hands on a student. 1. To keep the child from hurting a fellow student. 2. To keep the child from hurting himself. 3. To keep a child from hurting the teacher or aide or administrator. Otherwise, call school security or admin.
@NoHeros247
@NoHeros247 Год назад
Imagine going to work and if you did something wrong your teacher could beat you to correct the behavior. If going to school is meant to help children develop into adults and equip them with the skills to grow and develop how about we start by changing school curriculums to include things that actually accomplish this.
@laurenj6771

@@zaraheart Those who won't learn from history are doomed to repeat it. By the way, the governments of ancient Rome and ancient Greece are the basis of our own government. Ever hear of the Code of Hammurabi? One of the earliest codified set of laws?? Are you aware that public schools as well as colleges are answerable to accrediting agencies which look at the various curricula (the correct LATIN plural of curriculum) to ensure that the classes taught meet at least the bare minimum of what is required to earn diplomas and degrees in order to ensure those certificates are worth the paper on which they are printed?? Are you aware that the words used by educated people (polysyllabics) are words based on Latin and Greek words? Are you REALLY saying that the woke agenda curriculum is worthy of study and history, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, history, languages, language arts, botany, zoology, physics, chemistry, music, art, Civics, etc., are not??

I was so scared that when i was running a stall at their careers day i wouldnt speak to the one i recognised from when i was there.

This episode is exactly why I started my own in home daycare business. Because I LOVE kids and I love teaching but even in college, I could see that my personality would not mesh well with all of the stupid rules and regulations that they have in school districts nowadays. When I volunteered at Head Start, those babies were hanging on me because of all the trauma that they had experienced but my superiors told me, "Don't carry them around. It will make them less independent." 🙄😭 It was sooooo hard! Now if I work with foster kids or kids who have experienced trauma, I have a carrier, a hip seat, and I will carry them or let them sit in my lap for as long as I can pick them up or as long as they are little enough and if they are too big, I let them snuggle up next to me on the couch with my arm around them. I would not be allowed to do that in a classroom and I just think that's sad.

I wish there were more teachers like y’all. When I was in 3rd grade I loved collecting all kinds of plants and acorns and stuff like that, and one time I gave my teacher an acorn and she yelled at me to throw it away and that we don’t bring in junk from outside and ridiculed me in front of my class. She was also the same teacher that got pissed at me for telling the class how long it had been since my uncle had passed from cancer and how I was feeling about it and I would bring in the comic he made and signed for me and I showed it every show and tell for a couple weeks and she got so tired of it that I wasn’t allowed to participate in show and tell for the rest of the year.

If I sneeze or cough like 12 kids run to get me a tissue and ask if I'm ok. They also remember me and when they see me on another day in another class they always yell out and say hi and get so excited to see me. It blows my mind!
