We visit the north of Scotland to a hidden gem of a scrapyard that is only open one day a week by appointment. Oh and the Omega gets some tyres, an air on regas and hauls an Astra shell back down the road on the trailer
Reminded me 😁 years foraging for mkll Cav bits especially when they were stacked 3 high in the scrapers wobbling in the wind😂😂 brilliant content thanks Dougie 👍👍
Unfortunately most vauxhalls were rotten after 10 years old fords even worse. I can remember welding up a 5 year old vauxhall nova usual bulkhead throttle cable area
My uncle had a Mk3 Astra 2.0 Sport 16-V....R-Reg-97...a 3-Door one....very quick.. quiet...smoothe car....wide alloys...full spec...luxury car in it's class....I remember him saying....he had to custom order/reserve it from new....like you said...they only made them on later Mk3 Astra's for a short while/year or two...Mk4 Astra's from late 98/S-Plates Onwards...were Junk in comparrison....crap clunky gear boxes...cheap tacky interiors....but I did like how they added Sill & Arch Plastic Trim Liners/rim covers....to keep rot at bay...We had an '04 1.7 CDTI Sport...was Sporty Trim/Spec.. and was quick as f**k....but the headgasket went...it'd done over 110-k mind... Clunky Gearbox...gearboxes in some Vauxhall's from 98-S Rwg Onwards.. up until about 2006/7...were known to fail....so be wary buying one with that gearbox...it's notorious in the mechanics world....Check out a FB Page.. called Mechanics Bodge Jobs UK...where mechanics upload pics of Bodges they've found...it's a good laugh.
Alritey, Dougie! That's about 25 minutes from me! Les is a gem too!! I've been getting stainless trim, glass, etc from there since 1988! Over that time, every car & van has slowly gotten flatter!! Cheers. Leigh.
I had a frost blue GLS TD but as it was a Feb 93 car it had the blue dash and non airbag wheel. Lots of old classics in there, I think Retroshite visited there a few years ago.
Ive never seen scrap cars rusted to the point that the front struts break thru....theyve been there a long time! Fascinating trek. Who doesnt love a good scrap yard haul....theyre a dying breed. Not a hi viz vest in sight!
Depends on the location tbh.. can have cars sitting for decades & not rust as bad as some that have sat for 10 or so years in the wrong place (Edit) Can remember a dumped mk2 fiesta over the fields next to where I grew up, was dumped in a part that was quite swampy, it dissolved after about 10 years lol
Always cool seeing these time-capsule yards, interesting how such a bombed-out place can evoke such positive feelings in people. Keep it up, will always watch a scrapyard video from ya' 👍
The memories! All those once proud, new and beautiful cars now just laying about slowly disintegrating into the earth. In my early-mid driving years all these cars USED to be such a common sight, makes ya sad about how quick life moves on. Man, i wish i still had my red mk2 Astra GTE 16v (first year Coscast heads, no ABS or cat. Fairly low mileage for its age, i was lucky to get it) my mk3 Cavalier SRI (8v 130bhp) my early mk2 1.8 GTE. I`d LOVE to still have any of those, great cars!
i used love my scrap yard hunting with my pal, We would spend hours, just looking at what they had brought in at the top, and then chat to the lads about it. They would often tell us a few stories, one was a capri that the owner lost his temper with it, and just tossed it in. I remember seeing an Mk4 or mk5 cortina, that was restore project that was far to gone sadly. We pushed down the backend of it, and the full car split in half! it was that rotten. last time it was on the road was 1990 from what i remember, This was going back to 2008.
My first car was a cavalier commander 1.6 the engine overheated due to a leak in heater matrix. Had a recon engine fitted but it didn't run the same🤣 . There can't be many left on the road now. That was a bit of a trip...
May already have been pointed out, from about 26:48 onwards, you put your right hand on the severely oxidised remains of what may well be a Vauxhall Victor FB (blue), from the 60's.
dougie a tip n hack I found mk4 astra f17 gear selectors and knobs fit Cavaliers or fitted a k plate 1.8 and gives a little bit of a shorter throw just food for thought and
Wow, that is the most amazing scrap yard I’ve ever seen, there were some incredible retro vehicles there. Thank you for sharing this treasure trove with us Dougie😊.
That Astra Sport looks like my first car, albeit mine was a pathetic 1.4 Expression. Looks like he's got GSi rear lights fitted to it. Probably swapped them for the tinted Phase 2 lights on the GSi shell. Any Mk3 Astra on an S reg will be a rare old thing I'd have thought!
The olive green car at 16:40 is a Hillman Minx. Most of those cars are late 80's and 90's cars. I think there is thousands quid worth of scrap metal value laying in that field.
My old man worked at Lawrence of Kemnay in 80’s and 90’s. It was one of the uks busiest dealerships the amount of GSI/GTE/Turbos in Aberdeen at that time was mind boggling
@@OnceDrivenForeverSmitten for sure pal money was floating about the place still is but there was always a massive car scene up here Vauxhall GTE/GSi/SRi/ were ten a penny even lots of Lotus Carlton’s, Cav Turbo 4x4 were my favs though. Great content mate
Fantastic so you know the history on these cars? The MK2 130s were flying machines but they lived hard, mostly short lives 😝 If he would lift the cars up I'd have a go at getting the boxes out.
This looks quite an interesting place. Would love to see more of it. Only green camera man needs to go a bit slower. In order for everyone to see what is there. As the camera is like it’s just flying about
Totally off topic Dougie , am I right in saying you were part of the total Vauxhall team? , also sure I used to see you at crail track when I went with my mk2 nova it was baby blue with white mo5’s an white square on door , you could be the man to find out what happened to it after I sold it on . Would of been 2008
Good luck getting the whole lot out of that it's half buried in mud where it's sunk having sat there for nearly 20 years. Having said that if you lifted the car the engine would just about fall out 😂
@@rizaanjappieI've got original GM fuel caps. Got GM stamped on them . Of astra cars and Van's some I have of astra plain . No GM but all off astra 2002? To 2006. From scrap yards but not with key locks. So are you talking about lockable fuel caps. Or plain . Petrol and diesel . Diesel are black and petrol are black with white thread. .
For stock as they are getting hard to find + Diplomat ones are starting to peel on the rev counter. Will need to swap the face over as the set out that GL doesn't have the speed sensor.
