I'm an aging baby boomer who was fortunate to grow up with great music of the sixties and seventies. Steely Dan had hit after hit in the seventies and this one was one of the best. It stands in stark contrast to the god awful music of today.

Becker & Fagan were one of the greatest songwriter/performer duo's of all time (RIP Walter Becker) They NEVER made a bad song 🙋‍♂🙋‍♂

That would discuss albums as if they were politics, Gentle Giant/Pink Floyd/Kansas/early Genesis/Return to Forever/Weather Report/Funkadelic /Osabisa/MALO/Jethro Tull... ... courtship was via giving book's on philosophy, And albums so they would know we're you were coming from. No drugs involved...

This is a great song about how we as humans often find comfort in repetitive behaviors, even when they are negative ones. IMO these guys, Eagles, and Journey are America's greatest rock bands. These guys are a very deep rabbit hole indeed. My favorites by them are "Black Cow", "Kid Charlemagne", "Aja", "Deacon Blues", the entire "Aja" album, "Hey Nineteen", "Peg", “The Fez”, “Green Earrings”, "Reelin' In The Years", "Babylon Sisters", "Dirty Work", "Rikki Don't Lose That Number", "Don't Take Me Alive", "My Old School", "Any Major Dude Will Tell You", and "Doctor WU. There are many more because there's really no bad Steely Dan song. Their songs are adult, smart, clever, and well played. SD songs really like to portray a series of losers, hangers on, and those who continually make bad life decisions. Try "Peg" next and go from there.

Their later albums sold more, but for me, they never bettered this, their debut. Well, clever, six-note jazz chords are no substitute for melody. 'Do it again' is a tale of our times: a guy goes out, commits a crime, gets caught, is mildly punished, goes out & does it again - slap-on-the-wrist treatment, you see. You can choose any track on this album & not go wrong. The theme throughout is of a world that constantly turns, but never changes.
