Nah fr tho you can find a Wakizashi made with t-10 steel which is less brittle and more flexible, also has real ray skin, and a leather wrap with a tight saya on Kultofathena for $180 not $1000 I’ve been cutting with my Wakizashi for months and it still holds true

The steel is fine for 1000$. The issue is the quality of the polish, the fittings, and the fit and finish. Those are the things that raise the cost of a katana. This katana is not worth 1k for that reason. a 500$ Huawei katana has much better polish, fit and finish pretty much everything.

@@Ren-lx8wvso steel performance and the heat treat doesn’t mean anything? The first thing to consider in a “functional” blade is if it functions. 1095 if forged and heat treated poorly can bend, break, etc. 1095 done well could last a lifetime and be worth more than 1k.

The "shark skin" in the handle is often actually stingray skin. Also, the Japanese paper that goes into the pattern is not new, but often used paper that someone used to practice kanji. The reason is that they hoped that the ink on the paper would have an insect repellent effect! The curvature of the sword also changes considerably depending on the era in which it was made! For example, the shape called "suguha" was born in the peaceful Edo period to emphasize the appearance! Japanese Katana have a lot of history, so I want you to know a lot!

Looks veerrry very nice. However, the 1095 does tend to oxidize just by looking at it, as I have a katana made of 1095. Perhaps in the future you might find a steel that is more corrosion resistant? It would only be logical to produce a blade that's somewhat corrosion resistant when it's made to bathe in the blood of your enemies

@@definitely_vincible Look, I understand that my suggestion was given from on top of a pompous metallurgic high horse, but let me just tell you that my katana rusts really, really fast. There's no amount of cleaning that'll fix that unless I start to sand it down. I know that there are plenty of steels that can be tempered to be just as hard and have (slightly) better corrosion resistance. So long as I don't have that, I'll indeed clean the blade just as I have done up until now

1095 is considered standard for blades due to its good balance of hardness and flexibility, I get wanting a more rust or corrosion resistant material, but doing so would compromise the durability and ability to hold an edge. This one is labeled performance so it’s probably meant for use instead of display, hence the focus on physical properties. On another note I get it’s not the traditional method for a katana, but I’ve got a 1090 longsword and I keep it in good shape primarily with oil. Maybe give that a try? Either that or the powder used for katana.

Spring temper is as much a thing as spring steel is, there's bearing, tool, etc steels, its just a prefix to say what its primary function is. As for 1095 being peak for swords. Oof. Katana describes the shape and length of the blade, not it's composition. Nihonto is the word you want, it describes any blade (not just katanas) made in Japan out of tamahagane and using traditional methods. Nihonto literally translates to "japanese sword" and it implies both a country of origin and a traditional production method. You can make a katana out of spring steel, or wood (bokken), or tin if you wanted to. But you can't make nihonto out of those materials.

i have a very similar one but it’s a coffee dipped Damascus steel and it was only 300. i know it’s not the most genuine of swords but it’s much more appealing than this one. The handle is damn near identical assuming they get them from the same manufacturer. This is not worth even close to 1000.

Yes it is better than before,however 1000 dollars is Alot of money considering I can have a real Nihonto,not the best of course,but Real!To each their own though.I agree though a stepson the right direction,maki is tight,tsuka shape is good,samegawa is decent enough,I didn't look hard enough to see but most likely panels of same instead of a full wrap.Godd job guys!!🙌

Its interesting, you realise an actual katana or tachi sometimes circa 1800- 1940 can be brought at auction for about £700-£900 sometimes they are majoritivly folded and some are named obviously it varies but with good hunting and savvy research you can pick up something very well made and a investment that if taken care of will increase in value .

My problem is, that all online shops have too short Katana. I do Iai-Jutsu (Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu Iai-Jutsu Tosa Juku) and my current Katana has 3 Shaku (a bit less than 91cm) blade length. Since our school has a special heritage, we still use the unregulated blade length. But it is hard to get proper katana in those lengths, since all shops only use the regulated Edo period short blades...
