It is, after all, their country and they get to set the rules. Life’s a lot easier if we just accept that and go on to enjoy the country like the guests that we are. (I’m a bit prejudiced as one who’s been married to a Canadian for 33 years and crosses the border regularly.)
Just remember it can be just as tough for Canadians going into the States , ,, Also when driving you do not need a passport if you American and Canadian , There is a special drivers license called the enhanced Drivers license where checks are done on it before getting one , ,, Before 9-11 after I was in High school in the late 70s we use to go down to Seattle international Raceway, The only question we were asked by the American border guard was have you boys been drinking ?

Hey guys another great video. If you are in Richmond again try Aberdeen Mall there is a lot more food to try in the food court and a lot more shops to check out.
To get miles per hour from km/hour, If the speed limit is 100 km/hour, take that amount divide by 2 (100/2) = 50. Then multiply the kilometer speed by 10 percent (100 * .10) = 10. Add 50 + 10 = 60 miles/hour.

We do want to visit the Gardens, but it won’t be this trip. We are definitely spending time in Victoria though and several of the other hot spots around the island. We are having a super great time here on the island!
And you are so lucky to get to camp at Porteau cove! It’s always full ALL summer long! We are local and have never gotten in as mid week is too hard for our family. The Asian influence here is strong as all the kids eat different Asian snacks at school regardless of race. Seaweed is popular for sure and sushi!

Interesting to see today’s Vancouver. I worked in Ontario during 1982-86 and went to Vancouver and Whistler yearly. The explosion of the Asian community there since the Brits left Hong Kong is amazing! I’m really looking forward to seeing Vancouver Island when you get there.
Between 2005 and 2017, work sent me on 16 trips to Vancouver (if that isn't the definition of a perfect job, I don't know what is), so I was excited enough about today's video that I listened to some of it in my car before watching at home. And there was a moment when I laughed out loud while driving thinking, 'Holy Michael Scott moment!' (There were actually a few in there.) And then I watched at home... it was from the chair to a total floor roll! Anyway, there's so much to Vancouver: Kitsilano, Jericho Beach, Granville Island, Queen Elizabeth Park, Stanley Park, Deep Cove, walks along the Fraser River, Asian malls in Burnaby similar to where you ate. Lot of memories. You all have me inspired to go into Canada this weekend; Point Pelee National Park is only 1.5 hours from where I live. If I go, I'll double my number of Canadian national parks visited. (PEI / Green Gables is my only one so far.) I hope they have a patch. :)

I definitely noticed! Great little Easter egg! Some of the Vancouver spots are best at certain times, like when they have the English Bay fireworks competitions in July. Those are really special nights in Vancouver. By the way, I just used the ArriveCAN app to register myself for Saturday morning going over the Ambassador Bridge. Success! I got through the border and back yesterday, hiking close to 13 miles of trails at Point Pelee National Park. Stood on the southernmost point of mainland Canada! Thank you for the inspiration and the pointers on crossing the border!

I loved this video. I have missed crossing the border to BC, I’ll plan to go next week as now we allowed to enter. I miss Granville Island as well. Thank you for the introduction to the Chinese market, I have not been there before, I usually go to the Asian (Indian Asian) markets for spicy foods. I will add this to my list for next trip. Love the reference to the caramels when talking about the White Rabbit candy. I grew up in Baltimore where those caramels are made, and those Goetze's caramels are SO ADDICTIVE!! Looks like the White Rabbit candies were, too! Also, are you a tripmeter geek when it comes to miles traveled in your adventures? Whenever I road trip, I always reset the tripmeter so I can see how many miles I drove at the end of the trip. I'm sure with technology it's not needed anymore, but to me, there's something so fun and rewarding when you can see it in "real time". Thanks again for sharing as you leave the lower 48!
Yes those caramels are very addicting too! I don’t keep track of it on the dash, but we do track our miles for business purposes and we share how many miles we’ve traveled in our monthly newsletter and it is pretty fun to see! It’s also fun to see our map at the beginning of our videos and see how far we’ve gone already just this year!
Hearing you tell the border patrol agent you are going to “Alaska” made it SO real and exciting! The food looked incredible…all those noodles 😋 and rice 😋 you know two of my favorites! On my nomad travels last year I made it all the way up close to there but was extremely iffy about trying to cross the border because I had no idea what I needed to do or anything. I was so afraid like what if I did something wrong or had something I wasn't supposed to lol This actually seems so simple and I'm definitely crossing once I head north next month

Love it, Richmond asian markets is the biggest hidden gem of BC! If you dig deep you'll find lots of secret food places everywhere in Richmond. Try steveston spot prawns! Delicious raw, its spot prawn season too, only for the month of may I think.
Don't misunderstand. I am a fan but I often learn new words when I listen to you. Crackery was the word of the day. I'm going to start compiling a list of chocolaty, bready, peppery, coconutty, and all the other "y" words. Well done.
Thank you for taking me on a trip down memory lane. I was born in Vancouver and have spent a good portion of my life in and around the area. Much of my family lives on Vancouver Island now. Special spots are Sooke Potholes and Sheringham Lighthouse in Shirley. For delicious homemade baked goods, lovely sandwiches, soup and great coffee, check out Shirley Delicious. And don’t miss out on Stoked Wood-fired Pizza - incredible - also in Shirley. Geez there’s even Saltwest Naturals in the Sooke-Shirley area. They harvest the ocean water, dehydrate it and great the most wonderful salts for seasoning food and some scrubs for personal care - worth checking out. Lots of great camping in the area. Oh wow! Thanks for the tips. We will be visiting much of what you suggested! We plan to check out several of the special beaches and some fun camping in the Jordan River and Port Renfrew area. We’ll also be visiting Shirley Delicious. I don’t think we’ll make it to the Revelstoke area this time, but would love to someday. It looks gorgeous and just our style! Growing up in Metro Detroit and popping across the border all of the time (until covid, haven't been over there since the pandemic started), I have never had a single problem going over to Canada. Coming back to the USA however...man, the border guards in Detroit often have pretty bad attitudes...anyway - congratulations on this big step on your fantastic journey!!!

BC is an amazing place. We visited a lot in the 1990s. Adam, it's a great place to play golf. That said, I'm hesitant to visit Canada due to the COVID restrictions (I have read about some people getting marooned there for months). I hope you will offer some comments in your travels about how those restrictions compare with what you will encounter in Alaska. Of course, in addition to the amazing adventures, scenery and food! Looking forward to more. Keep it up!
Hi! So far we have not seen any COVID restrictions anywhere in BC (masks were worn in the mall out of respect to the 99% of people in the mall wearing masks, but are not required indoors here). Everything feels exactly the same here as it does in the US, so I cannot see any reason we would get stuck here, unless someone has to test to leave (not required for us) and gets a positive COVID test.
All that food looked delicious and those candies that were Adam's Mom's favorite were Karen's Mom's as well. So exciting to cross borders of any kind. Take care and thanks again for sharing.

We just returned from Redding, CA where we copied some of the activities from your trip there. We really enjoyed Wilda’s and did the ebike ride to the Shasta dam on our own pedal assist bikes. What a great ride.
So interested in your adventure to Alaska! Plan on doing this in a couple years. Plan on crossing the border in Montana, doing Calgary and Edmonton up into Fairbanks. Then coming down the way your going up. Keep up the great work and stay safe. You two rock!!
Thanks for the info about what it takes to cross the border. Will be doing the same in some months, hope it stays the same. Fyi Yaohan/Mitsuwa is a Japanese market. But they do mix in other asian cultures in the grocery and cafeteria.
Actually it makes total sense. Here the store is in a Japanese neighborhood. Canada I think the percentage of Chinese among Asians is high. Regardless I was drooling. OH. They should sell trainer chopsticks there!
