Make one side of the skewer holes a notch so you can put food on them and lay them in.

@AlgolGaming
@AlgolGaming 10 месяцев назад
yeah I came to say this. if they are skewers, the the holes closest to the handles need to be notches and not holes. So you can lift them right out. Otherwise. I wouldn't call them skewers, and would call them removable grates or something.
@careyian
@careyian 10 месяцев назад
Came here to say this! Was trying to figure out how to skewer my food and get it through the holes at the same time while the fire is lit. Its currently to a good solution to put a pan on, but needs to be notches on at least one side to also work as skewers.

I know it would be heavy, but y'all should make one that can be set on your back porch. A BIG one.

The heavier the better in my opinion, that way they can't get knocked over!

@@LiftArcStudios Yes sir, one that can be stationary. I mean, it can be taken apart like the small ones y'all built but make it maybe with 1/4' steel? Lol, that would be pretty heavy if you made it the size 4'x2'? Anyhow, keep the awesome videos coming, guys. I really enjoy the content.

Looks great! One suggestion is make one bigger model to. Like 1,5 or 2 times bigger.

Yup here here in N FL fire pit season is pretty short. It would be nice to have one easy to store in shed. Mine stays outside and doesn't live too long.
@AronGreen
@AronGreen 10 месяцев назад
I like the other suggestions to notch one side so the skewers can be dropped in. I also like the storage hole for the bolts. Last thing I'd say would be helpful is some way to store the skewers with the kit. Only thing I can come up with so far is another plate that is just for storage. Could also be possibly the catch pan for the ashes some people have mentioned.

Awesome- if ya ad small notches on the edges above where the "skewers" go through the skewers would be easier to use as skewers. if the unit is made out of carbon sheet they can be "seasoned". Awesome n fun as usual!

no need to weld them... they slide together and interlock...

lots of people suggested bolt storage. if you add one, you might think about doing it in the bottom of the tab that locks the unit together, so if you then place the bolts through that hole, you can't pull that one side out and it locks the whole pit together and makes it safer if the unit gets knocked around.

Flat pack! Cool! One thing I would do is make the ends of the skewers with round holes so you can attach them with the carriage bolts as to not lose them! Awesome design!!!
@davidapp3730

What a great design. One suggestion would be have notches along the top edges so the skewers could be lifted off when they are used with meat impaled on them. As it is I am not sure how you get the food off without it going in the fire. Looks like a birthday present for son in law.

I think putting the notches at the top is a great idea, I also think it would be a great idea to make a stainless one and make a stainless rack to go along with the skewers.

I found your channel searching for welding machine reviews and then stumbled on this video. I do a lot of BBQ, grilling and cooking on my channel so hit me up if you are interested in me sharing this with my viewers. I've seen similar grills but those are imported super thin, stamped out junk. I would definitely be open to show this made in the USA beefed up version.

@careyian
@careyian 10 месяцев назад
Making it notches instead of holes on one or both sides would make it more usable! Currently, the skewers can only really be used as a grill for putting pans on, but if at least one side were notched it’d work well as a skewer too!

Brilliant idea, well executed. Well done lads. After a few uses it's going to be messy to handle and store away. An accessory you might think about is a canvas bag to put it in.

Great idea! Tom and I could definitely use something like that. I agree with some of the other comments about the skewers being stainless steel I'm not sure about the toxicity to the food you're cooking. Then again what do I know about metal? I also agree with another comment you might want to make some kind of a little tray to go under it catch the waste for those people who were using it on their Patio instead of in the woods. I'm so glad to see you guys coming up with new ideas for the general public. Tom and I have bought absolutely everything that you have done so far. Our way of supporting you. Tay you have a great team there! A good video, show you cooking something on it that way you might be able to finesse any problems that might arise. Love all y'all! Tom and Peggy.

Neat little device for campers, storage is always a problem area and you solved that. The skewers are a good idea but a fail for using them as skewers as they will only cook on one side due to the weight of the handle. Love the channel do some riding in your area if it isn't raining. LOL from VB.

You should add numbers or symbols on the slots & tabs that go together so that there is a self explanatory step by step system of how this is assembled. Just match the number/symbols that are next to the tabs and the slots on each side and you'll end up with a tiny fire pit. Looks cool. Godspeed meine Herren
@jasoneverett8491
@jasoneverett8491 10 месяцев назад
Love this design! Like other's have said though, yall need a handle too. If you add a small loop or V to the very tip of the 'handle' side of the skewars, and use longer bolts, you can use them as the handles. A lot of configurations would be possible, but I think the best would be one handle loop on each top corner, both "front" and "back" side, and with all four pointy ends pointed horizontally. They'd overlap, maybe have to deflect a little bit, but should make a nice full width handle that'd be easy to grab or lash down.

15:08 I would like to suggest you make the skewers out of the same sheet stock and slots for them to slide into. You might be able to cut these out of the scrap and they can flat pack with the rest of the grill.
@CaptainMcFartin

Great idea, love it. My thoughts. Opposite leg of the LAS add two bolt holders or those things will disappear. Add notches along the top lip for skewers to lay in, notches would be a V cut. Then change out the skewers to square stock. This will allow for rotating the skewer and it not constantly rolling back to the heaviest side down. Keep up the good work.

Love the channel... been watching since you cleared out the machine shop. Consider this... include a handle on the top of both, or on one, of the x shaped end plates to act as a carrying handle when the pit is stored (if you have one on each x shaped end plate then they can be used to move the pit when it is assembled). The handle would be part of the steel plate end plates that are cut with the plasma cutter. The handle would just be a little higher than the rest of the unit. Cheers...

Add one more diamond hole at the point of the two legs meet so you can have three (3/8” longer ) carriage bolts to clamp the skewer/grates between the plates! Sides are the outer and the the legs inner to hold the bend ends internal to the pack up.
@EthosAtheos
@EthosAtheos 24 дня назад
Put the square holes on the legs and move the logo. That way the bolts have a place to live and you maintain symmetry. Or if cutting speed isn't a problem (it is) add 2 more holes to hold the bolts.

I love it and would pay extra for a custom canvas pouch with slots for the skewers.
@GoodJobCasey
@GoodJobCasey 10 месяцев назад
The skewers are much too thick for most things. The skewers being round also will allow food to twist around them. However, that probably won't happen since the skewers are also lopsided and won't properly rotate. Making them thinner and flat will allow you to rotate 180 to cook both sides. Making them another 1" or so longer with a 1/2 bend would probably be fine. But being able to rotate them is pretty key for a skewer to work properly. The bolts should have a hole to be put in on the legs to be stored also.
@Ad3Collins

@JohnBare747

You need to be able to move the skewers with meat on them so go with notches on the top of the edge!!! That will make it actually useful.

Kool product. I agree regarding having skewer slots and may I add the skewers need to be longer to avoid burning our fingers when rotating them. In addition, perhaps some slots in order to pack-up/carry the pit especially after a few uses to reduce the interior soot getting all over our hands! A carrying bag would also be a very good accessory! Thanks for the "better" music from this century and not the waltz music you seem to be addicted to...

Maybe have the option for an additional plate to be purchased to go underneath to catch any ash or embers. I think you are close to the sweet spot for size. If you go too much larger, it isn't very portable while also being relatively small for a permanent pit and you start running into increased shipping costs which pushes people to their local market. I would like to see your take on a flatpack rocket stove.

@tdimccullough
@tdimccullough 10 месяцев назад
you need a box to put it in as i assume that when finished with it could be warm, definitely dirty with ashes and fat, etc. also the skewers would be better sitting in slots so they could be used as actual skewers with food skewered on them or smaller diameter skewers for cooking food on. you could offer bigger sizes as in America everything is bigger

Bolt and wing nut need a storing hole for when fire pit in use. So you do not loose it when in use. Squeer when stuff is on the stick should drop and lock from top. Squeer need to integrate in the flat pack as one unit for transport. Make a hole to hang the kit when not in use. Squeer shoul be stainless for food contact

Gday guys. Just watching. Ok so l hope you have noticed your skewers are not useable to skewer . Try it you will find out what I mean. For the grill top maybe some stainless plate with grill lines cut into it. Maybe even just make the whole thing out of stainless. 2-3mm would be fine to make this. Love the work through guys keep it up 👍

I love it but it really needs a cooking grate so you can make hamburgers and hot dogs and not have them fall through. What you could do is make another plate and cut out enough material to have it be a grate and actually cut the skewers from that plate during the same cutting operation. That would save time making the skewers and also have someplace for the skewers to fit when the pieces are flat together for travel.

First impression is the bottom air flow elements are too much - too many slots. Cut the number of slots in half to allow a slower burn and more heat control. You could deluxe-it up a little by adding a sliding air damper there as well. Otherwise, nice addition to the offerings online. OK, opinion given...good luck with sales!
