In February 2013, Polytron Technologies, a Taiwanese company that makes optical and electronic vision glass, unveiled a prototype for the world's first transparent phone. The phone was a touchscreen device with a fully functional SIM tray, SD card slot, microphone, and camera, but it didn't yet have an operating system. The phone was essentially a phone-shaped piece of glass, and only the circuit board, memory card, and camera unit were visible. Polytron was hopeful that the technology would be available by the end of 2013, and the phone was a preview of what a futuristic phone might look like.
As of now, fully transparent mobile phones are not available in the market. However, there have been prototypes and concepts developed by companies and researchers that showcase the potential for transparent displays. These devices often use transparent OLED technology, which allows for some level of transparency, but they are not fully functional consumer products yet. The main challenges include integrating all the necessary components, such as batteries, processors, and cameras, in a way that remains transparent. While there have been some advancements in transparent electronics, we're still a few years away from seeing fully transparent smartphones that are both practical and available for consumers.
