Hi girls. I'm surprised that you didn't find more older coins. A friend of mine, who would be over 100 had she lived, used to regularly travel on the train between Doncaster and Edinburgh as a child, and when they went through Berwick-upon-Tweed, all the kids would throw their coins out of the window into the Tweed! (In the 1940s and 50s carriage windows opened) I've no idea why; something to do with Scottish Independence I guess. Thanks again for a very interesting programme.

my grandfather used clay pipe stems as chalk to indicate his plumblines while doing masonry work so, that pipe stem could have been used on the bridge when it was built. the advantage was chalk washes away in the rain pipe clay lines don't so your lines would be there the next morning rain or shine.

Very creative! I would buy some of these pieces in a heartbeat! Some tips from a potter: If you don’t want to do everything freehand, you can sketch on bisqueware with a pencil and the graphite will burn off in the kiln. The crazing is probably from applying the clear glaze a bit thick. I happen to like that look, but you could experiment with just using 1 or two thin coats of glaze to see what happens. (Use zinc-free clear glaze to avoid interactions with the underglaze colors.)
